I can’t tell if this guy is talking about the monotony of modern life, or if it’s about a situation where it’s just a man living life all by himself in a post apocalypse, where no one else is alive. “The radio static hurts my ears” referencing the static that comes up when no Radio signals are working. The constant line “I’ve had for years” - meaning he’s been on his own for years now, with only one working album and VCR tape. In that way, I love the songs “story”.

I still remember walking into the "record" shop in the Mall with this playing in the background as a featured album, I had to buy it! Now, years later at age 57' I still have these songs in my head, especially on final approach while on an ILS into an Airport. Flying and the music from the Police go together, life is great!

Hiwatt Tape Echo and Eventide Harmonizer with a Telecaster with just the bridge pickup on probably. Very rich illusory quality. Never quite sure just how unstable the signal is as it decays. Hypnotizing. That device and the Memory Man were not really used much but my friends had them.
