Stewart, Rod - Scarred And Scared Lyrics

As a Rod fan, I have to confess that overall, I didn't like this album, and I understand the commercial appeal of "Da' Ya Think I'm Sexy" though to this day it continues to be one of my most disliked Rod songs, sorry. But this "Scarred and Scarred" song, for me it's awesome though it has no commercial appeal. For me it's an example of the quality of songs that Rod could have written during the 80s and 90s but for some reason he got distracted from song writing. To this day he is my favourite singer and I'm glad that in the past few years he has returned to writing his own songs.

Best track on album. Never understood album cover. Shouldn't the brunette be on the back and the blonde on the front cover? Album cover says "Blondes have more fun ... or do they?

I was 10 years old and learned about suicide from this song. It was nuts, I grew up in a small town and we had a series of suicides by Vietnam war vets. Everyone told me they were "COWARDS"

Takes me back to my youth, superb song.

I had older siblings who were into music and they picked up this record back then for other songs on it. I was abused
in many ways for a lot of years and I didn't have much of a childhood. I listened to this song a lot back then and often
thought about: "going down to the engine shed" myself. I was 6 years old when the abuse started and the thoughts
of ending it all when I was 9. The thoughts of enduring YEARS more of it were enough that I found out what the barrel
of a 30-30 tastes like. I still come back to this song when things get tough....

Such a sad song of a waylaid soul from the normals of life.

@Michael Sammon You are welcome. It's right that nothing was mentioned on the album's sleeve about Rod playing the harp but the album's review on the papers during that time did mentioned that Rod plays the harp. Btw how can anyone resist Rod  the Mod. Take care and greetings from Malaysia.

The lyrics of this track by Mr Stewart  -  from his 1978 album "Blondes Have More Fun"  -   are somewhat depressing (to put it mildly).  In fact, I cannot think of any song recorded by Stewarty which contains lyrics darker or more depressing than this one. "Scarred And Scared" reminds me of Tony Christie's big hit from the summer of 1971  -  "I Did What I Did For Maria  -  and is also reminiscent, in some respects, of a song called "I've Gotta Get A Message To You (which was a chart-topping single for The Bee Gees in the August of 1968).
Incidentally, the contrast between "Scarred And Scared" and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?"   -   another track from Stewarty's '78 album "Blondes Have More Fun"  -  could hardly have been greater.  Versality  -  both as a singer and as a songwriter  -  is certainly one of Rod's strengths.

It sure is his strengths for sure... I think this song is way underrated!
