Stewart, Rod - It's Not The Spotlight Lyrics

If I ever feel the light again shining down on me,
I don't have to tell you what a welcome it will be.
I felt the light before but I let it slip away,
but I still keep on believing that it'll come back some day.

It's not the spotlight, it's not the cam'ra light,
it's not the street lights of some old street of dreams.
It ain't the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
but I've seen it shining in your eyes and you know what I mean.

Some times I try to tell myself the light was never real,
just a fantasy that used to be, the way I used to feel.
But you and I know better, even though it's been so long,
if your memory really serves you well, you'll never tell me no wrong.

It's not the spotlight, it's not the cam'ra light,
it's not the streetlights of some old street of dreams.
It ain't the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
but I've seen it shining in your eyes you know what I mean.

So if I ever feel the light again shining down on me,
I don't have to tell you what a welcome it would be.
I felt the light before but I let it slip away,
but I still keep on believing that it'll come back some day.

It's not the spotlight, it's not the cam'ra light,
it's not the streetlights of some old street of dreams.
It ain't the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
but I've seen it shining in your eyes and you know what I mean.

I have been a Rod Stewart fan since I was 6 years old; and I'm now 45. There are just so many Rod Stewart songs that are so fitting for any mood or occasion. Rod Stewart is also a very likeable guy with a great personality and sense of humour. What I find to be absolutely remarkable is that he has remained active and relevant for over 50 years! He really is one of music's greats

    C.... L....

Cody Levinson However you have to admit, he was so much better in his earlier songs then he is now.

  5. L.... T....

Blues great Bobby Bland also sung this.

Bobby Blue Bland's version was the only one I knew. I wore out his California Album back in the day, mostly listening to this song. But I have loved Rod Stewart for eons, too, so I am happy with his version. But as much as I love Rod, I would have to take Bobby over Rod.

Atlantic crossing, one masterpiece of an album. This is such a great song, oh how I miss the old Rod. (no sexual pun intended) Such a legend, but decided to go all mature. I don't want that Rod (again no pun.........)

  7. A.... D....

  10. K.... A....

Sometimes you don't realize who wrote these songs till they gone  Gerry Goffin, another classic....

  12. s.... m....

What can I say about Atlantic Crossing...it's the first album I ever bought. I personally rate it 5 stars.

  13. s.... ....

    Great drumming in this oldie.

  14. L.... R....

What happened to this Rod. It seemed like after "D'ya Think...." he lost this kind of aesthetic. He got it back a little during the "Storyteller/Vagabond/Unplugged" era; and now he's doing the standards and he's really good at that. I'm not mad at him for that. But the Mercury and Warner's Bros. label from '75-'79 was his best--yes! Rod in the 70's....miss that.

  15. C.... P....

i remember when my father tried to choke me to death on the way across country. He was a huge Rod Stewart fan.

  16. J.... C....

Top Top Song, Roderick is the business

  17. G.... ....

Rod Stewart is great with slow songs.

  18. b.... ....

My sweet sixteens, love this album and specially the slow side, than you for this mate

  19. f.... c....

To Oldpigsass .We'll need to differ on this one it's one of the best tracks I've ever heard part of the soundtrack of this 53 year olds life. Into Groundhogs , Roxy Music , Willie Nelson and more currently Richard Hawley, it just shows you how one mans meat is another mans poison.

  20. O.... ....

Dreadful. But serves a purpose in showing what makes BOBBY "BLUE" BLAND, from whom this song was lifted, the greatest vocals on God's Deep Blue Earth

  21. s.... ....

@TheKraut59 i think a night on the town is better, followed by foot loose & fancy free, its all about opinions?

  22. T.... ....

This Voice is Something Verry Special for Me Anyway ,Atlantic Crossing Best album he ever made

  23. S.... C....
