Stewart, Rod - Fool For You Lyrics

By the time you read this letter
I'll be outta your life
Gone forever more
But guess I'll survive
I'm gonna leave my records
And a forwarding address
Ain't you glad honey
That I'm offa your chest

You said you wanted Paris
Rome 'n' St. Tropez
Perfume by Chanel
And a ring by Cartier
But I gave you headaches
With my old fashioned ways
But that's all irrelevant
To what I'm tryin' to say
I'm a fool for you baby
Pride won't let me stay
I'm a fool for you honey
and I'll come back any day
Guess I'll always love you all my life

You can keep your Streisands
Bardots and Lorens
You're my everything
But now you're my end
It may be over
But just before I go
I can make a new start
But I can't mend a broken heart

So when I read about you
In all the national press
On the arm of so and so
I may get depressed
Cause I tried to love you
But didn't fit in
I came on the dust
I'll leave on the wind

I'm a fool for you baby
My pride won't let me stay
I'm a fool for you honey
I'll come back any day
I'm a fool for you baby
I don't care what your friends say
I'm a fool for you honey
And that's the way I'll stay
I guess I'll always love you all my life

Favourite song off the album. Pity it's been underrated and forgotten about. Live version would be a treat, back in the day

I heard that one Thanksgiving, all of the exes got together & made dinner for him. How cool is that? I hope that his relationship with them is like going back to visit a favorite place(depending on the time of year & how you feel). They were all very special Ladies to him & I think he loved them all the same amount, but in different ways.

the most under rated songwriter of our time

    d.... p....

+dana paul I have said this many times only when he has gone will the music press acknowledge just how good he is

    d.... p....

Rod has wrote some great songs, but I've always maintained he's been too lazy over the years and could of wrote more. Maybe if he had been more prolific he would of got that respect?

    d.... p....

    I agree. Thought this too.

I made a Rod Stewart mix but it was only songs from 1968-1973. Some Faces songs, Jeff Beck and Python Lee Jackson plus some early Rod solo. Rod has some great tunes post 1973 but as the year pass it gets less and less.

    @scouserla1So quick to judge.
In his autobiography, he said that songwriting was difficult for him.
Over time, the ideas just wouldn't come.

  11. H.... Y....

shoulda been a #1 if released as a single

WOW, this brings back memories. I used to have this album on vinyl, but I lost it to an Ex. I'll have to root out the CD.

  21. T.... G....

    such a great song x

  22. T.... ....

Love, love this! Met the lovely Mr Stewart in Glasgow at his book signing and he was charming, had waited 35 (ish) years for it, and it was well worth it, happyface xx

  23. d.... c....

all the classics on this album but this is my favourite.AMAZING

  24. s.... ....

I dont just think its his lack of songwriting today, its his voice too, i seen rod in the 70's, 80's, 90's & in 2002, i wouldnt now, its a shame because there's never a better vocalist when he was at his singing best

  25. R.... ....

Yes, he's cashing in. Very sad. I miss new Rodder material. Young turks be free tonight...

  26. s.... ....

In his autobiography, Rod states the only woman he didn't cheat on was Rachel Hunter. She left him. Guess it was payback from Brit, Alana, Kelly, etc.

  27. s.... ....

I have not heard this before. What a great old tune.

  28. s.... ....

I think he' been lazy throughout his career, its sad because have many people wrote a better song than mandolin wind?

  29. L.... ....

Exactly ! It is like Rod has been phoning it in for the longest time. He needs to lock himself up somewhere and WRITE WRITE WRITE. Even collaborative writing would be fine at this point. He needs to help create the songs he is singing, instead of just buying them in a can.

    L.... ....

    LethiaPage t

  30. s.... ....

He's wasted his talent as a song writer?

  31. s.... ....

Whats so sad is that most of his biggest hits have been self wrote, maggie may, you wear it well, farewell, tonights the night, the killing of georgie etc etc

  32. g.... ....

played this album to death back in the day and this was my favourite song

  33. M.... R....

    salluutttt t m

  34. L.... ....

Oh PS I found that interview, again, super encouraging! Should really be anytime now, he said May unless there have been delays. He implies a bit of sophistication while comparing to the old material. But what was so wonderful about the old stuff was its grit, balls, and honesty. So it will be interesting to see what he means. And of course...every album has its share of covers...he does them well.

  35. L.... ....

Kapat45, this is really nice to know! I like the Great American Songbooks and the reworks of the blues and soul and other classic rock songs and I think he is one of the more interesting collaborators...but I have pined for new original material. The last original album I remember was Human. I couldn't even listen all the way through, it sucked so bad. So...this is refreshing news. I hope it's good!

Thanks for taking the time to answer my whining.

  36. L.... ....

I am such a big Rod fan. These lesser known songs from "A Night on the Town" and "Foot Loose and Fancy Free" will always be my favs. I would trade any cut on these albums for almost any other "hit" on his newer albums. Why Rod, why do you not write your own material anymore??? Are you not hungry enough? Or poor enough? Get it together man!

  37. j.... r....

Im an MMA fighter, and when I tell people I get down to Rod they look at me like im nuts. What a great tune!!!

  38. f.... ....

Great song from night on the town.... and great photos.

  39. P.... R....

    Thanks kapat45
Bought this when i was younger and brings back so many memories. Rod certainly is a great songwriter. Did anyone notice though the intro to this song is the same as Tonight's the night?

  40. t.... ....

  42. s.... ....
