Stewart, Rod - Can We Still Be Friends Lyrics
We can't play this game anymore
But can we still be friends
Things just can't go on like before
But can we still be friends
Now it's time for the wheel to turn
Grains of sand one by one
Before you know it it's all gone
Let's admit we made a mistake
But can we still be friends
Heartbreak's never easy to take
But can we still be friends
It's a strange sad affair
Don't waste time feeling hurt
We've been through hell together
Where do we go from here
We can't play this game anymore
But can we still be friends
Things just can't go on like before
But can we still be friends
We awoke from our dream
Things are not what they always seem
Memories linger on
It's like a sweet, sad, old song
Where do we go from here
Where do we go from here
I can't play this game anymore
Can we still be friends
Things just can't go on like before
I just wanna be friends
I just wanna be, wanna be, wanna be
And now I just wanna be friends
We had something to learn, something to learn
Now can we still be friends
Let's admit our mistakes

The synths are soft and lush here
Not for me..destroyed a beautiful song...stick to what you do best Rod
I respect Rod like crazy, but making this peppy just kills the actual impact of this song.
Most of Rod's covers ended up to be better than the originals!!!!
Not this one.
@mimosa17 : You don't think so? I do...
I dunno. I wanted to like it - I love the sounds - but it sounds like Rod is phoning it in to me. Timing seems off, not enough emotion going...like he doesn't know the song that well. Argh...could have been so much better!
nope...not quite Rod...
J just love this version! Love it! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.
lovely song for a friend
Too fast...too thin...
heart heart heart
The original was featured in the film Dumb & Dumber
sensacional
This is the first version of this song I have ever heard. I remember myself trying to play the bass line at the end, unsuccessfully.. lol
Dumb and Dumber 1994
I love this version with Rod Stewart! 🎵🎵🎤🎼Ingrid in Sweden
Ingrid Gustafsson
They should have put this Version on the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack
I love anything Rod does except this stuff he has done the past ten years. He was told to quit
Singing from the diaphragm , He ruined his vocal cords, But he is unique .
I love love love this, puts a smile in my broken heart.
What an incredibly shitty version!
Well I was hoping for a better one indeed...
Davitofratito
You know someone you’re a shitty version!, of me that is
Only Rod could play this song so well...
Todd Rundgren has to be the best . . . this version has too much background music :(
Eh. Todd Rundgren is, unlike Rod Stewart, a genius.
I broke up with my X 2 weeks ago I wish she would forgive me and forget the mistakes I made I'm trying to forget the mistakes she made
I love Rod Stewart but this 80s arrengment is nonsense..kills the otiginsl intention of the song! I'm sure he can sing it beautiful...
This is a travesty and the banal production has rinsed all emotion from a tender break up song and reduced it to elevator music. Come on Rod...You can do better with such great material. E.g. Mandolin Wind, Reason To Believe.
How i wish.....the world were one big...friendly...loving...accepting caring place.....!
this 80's music transports me to another time and place where everything was so bright and simple. Would just laze all afternoon and listen to music and read books and watch trees sway in summer wind. No cell phones, no internet, just pure joy of being in touch with music and my soul
Rod/Todd?!
First heard this in GTA vice city
what?? this is NOT in GTA Vice City
Rod Stewart has his distinctive voice and I feel anything that he records is just awesome. The man is blessed with such talent.
they shold have use this version for the Dumb & Dumber movie
Music is subjective. What you said is 'the crap'. While I give credit for Todd's work to my ears Rod's version sounds great. I figured you heard Todd first and that's why you associate this song to him. Now I from the 80's and I heard Rod's version first. So I say his version is better!!! So subjective.
oh snap almost forgot about this song...
Wow, the memories....
I loved you so much x
