Stewart, Al - Jackdaw Lyrics
I'm running away on a day like today
Nothing you say could cause me to stay.
Jackdaw (jackdaw)
Leaving by your back door
Should be gone by now
Should be gone by now.
Don't try to follow, just leave it alone
The trains have all left now and the station is closed.
Jackdaw (jackdaw)
Leaving by your back door
Should be gone by now
Should be gone by now
It's five in the morning and it's rainy and cold
Just go back to sleep now and you won't see me go.
Jackdaw (jackdaw)
Leaving by your back door
Should be gone by now
Should be gone by now
Should be gone by now.

Stewart, Al Jackdaw Comments
This was on Al's 1996 Fan CD Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time and the 2007 rerelease of Love Chronicles
Where did this wonderful song come from? It is a wonderful. I recall Al mentioning something about jackdaws on "Midas Shadow." Maybe this is an outtake from the "Year of the Cat" sessions? I am just guessing.
I think it was mid 90's, but it doesn't sound like it belongs on "Between The Wars" or "Down In The Cellars" -- maybe that's why it would have been omitted. There's not much information on this song, except that it was included on the outtakes album "Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time". You're right though, it does sound like it could come from "Year of the Cat". Maybe it does. "Jackdaw" was also the name of the Al Stewart Fan magazine I believe.
@mashfan72, I thank you for the details. Al's music can be so filled with great inspiration. He probably has other outtakes that could be collected and placed on a "rarities" collection.
i don't know why al not including in album....very nice song thanks for posting...
