Stevie Wonder - Golden Lady Lyrics

Looking in your eyes
Kind of heaven eyes
Closing both my eyes
Waiting for surprise
To see the heaven in your eyes is not so far
Cause I'm not afraid to try and go it
To know the love and the beauty never known before
I'll leave it up to you to show it

And golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
Take me right away

Looking at your hands
Hands can understand
Waiting for the chance
Just to hold your hand
A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that's blooming
And it's so clear to me that you're a dream come true
There's no way that I'll be losing

And golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
Take me right away

A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that's blooming
And it's so clear to me that you're my dream come true
There is no way that I'll be losing

Golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I'd like to go there
[REPEAT and FADE]

I mean, c’mon, man. Enormous “Wow!” for Stevie. Not always the best person, but one of my all-time favorite arrangers and musicians. Like Jimmy Page, Stevie showed the world that it was possible to do YOUR thing on vinyl, and that led to a short and incredibly productive time in modern music. So lucky to be a boomer! 😎

  25. I.... W....

I still remember the skip on my record.

  26. P.... P....

    True blessing

    Timeless.

  33. R.... F....

The magic of the trilogy of Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness' First Finale may never be duplicated. I still spin them on vinyl every now and again 45 years later...

  34. C.... W....

Listening to 'Golden Lady' in headphones is an added thrill -- like so many of Steve's songs from the 70s were: back when pop music was actually crafted -- when the industry was still trying to please us... Imagine that.

  35. l.... 1....

    すんばらしい曲だな。リズムもシンセの音色も、らしさ全開ばりばり。

  36. H.... K....

  52. D.... C....

Maybe my favorite Stevie song. Beautiful

  53. H.... S....

There will never be anyone who could ever come close to Stevie Wonder!!! He got me through my teenage years right through to adulthood 😊

  54. A.... I....

A small example of Stevie's incredible musicianship: If you listen carefully to the bridge and chorus, Stevie is singing in unison in two tracks and two takes. As loose as his timing is, he times almost every note perfectly to match the other track. Nearly impossible to pull off even if the notes are dead on the beat -- how much harder to intuitively slide the timing slightly before or behind the beat for that soul feel?

  55. a.... t....

46 years after first hearing this and it still sends shivers through my soul. Amazing Mr. Wonder!

  56. k.... ....

  61. B.... A....

I remember auditioning a blind, black keyboard player from San Diego in Culver City, CA...for a show group...back in the early 70's. It was for a show group that Chuck Corson was putting together...called "Prime." This keyboard player was amazing!!! I told Chuck he should hire him...but because he was blind...Charles said it wouldn't be practical...going on the road. So after auditions were over...we were all jamming together & this blind keyboard player said..."wanna play a song I wrote recently?" After playing it...I told him..."wow...that is beautiful." He told me it was called "Golden Lady." He told me...one of his hero's...since he himself was black, blind & a musician was Stevie Wonder. Someone took him to meet Stevie...at a Stevie Wonder Concert...they got him backstage & Stevie interacted with him. He said he asked Stevie if he could play him some songs he had written...he played him "Golden Lady." This song was not out yet. This blind, black organ player's name...Clarence Bell." I noticed when the song came out...Clarence was credited for organ on the album liner. Just sayin"

Golden Lady is a beautiful song...and Stevie is amazing...but to me...Clarence Bell (well yes)

By the way...I drove Clarence back to San Diego from Culver City...to take him back to his home....as I got into San Diego...I got lost...Clarence touchedthe window in my car and figured out where the sun was...and he gave me directions to his house!!! I don't know...but maybe that's why I believe he really wrote "Golden Lady."

10th grade Garfield H.S. East L.A. Walking the streets with a boda bag full of wine and smoking weed, on our way to a party in Pico. These were days when Rock radio used to play Soul music and we used to hear this on KLOS FM.
Thank God, that most of us are still alive and in touch with each other. This song some how makes you think about the Love that we all share and how blessed we are to have each other and all of the memories. Peace and Love

  77. I.... L....

THAT bass line in the beggining is so rich!

  78. P.... M....

A brilliant song from a brilliant album.

  79. J.... ....

Such is a beautiful composition. Stevie is a true Melodist of the highest tier. His melodic-depth is rich enough to rival anything in the Afro-American Jazz-melody aesthetic. In simple terms, Stevie's compositional-genius is right up there with Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Gershwin, etc....

  80. T.... ....
