Stevie Wonder - Black Man Lyrics

First man to die
For the flag we now hold high [Crispus Attucks]
Was a black man

The ground were we stand
With the flag held in our hand
Was first the red man's

Guide of a ship
On the first Columbus trip [Pedro Alonzo Nino]
Was a brown man

The railroads for trains
Came on tracking that was laid
By the yellow man

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

Heart surgery
Was first done successfully
By a black man [Dr Daniel Hale Williams]

Friendly man who died
But helped the pilgrims to survive [Squanto]
Was a red man

Farm workers rights
Were lifted to new heights [Caesar Chavez]
By a brown man

Incandescent light
Was invented to give sight [Thomas Edison]
By the white man

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

Hear me out...

Now I know the birthday of a nation
Is a time when a country celebrates
But as your hand touches your heart
Remember we all played a part in America
To help that banner wave

First clock to be made
In America was created
By a black man [Benjamin Banneker]

Scout who used no chart
Helped lead Lewis and Clark
Was a red man [Sacagawea]

Use of martial arts
In our country got its start
By a yellow man

And the leader with a pen
Signed his name to free all men
Was a white man [Abraham Lincoln]

We pledge allegiance
All our lives
To the magic colors
Red, blue and white
But we all must be given
The liberty that we defend
For with justice not for all men
History will repeat again
It's time we learned
This World Was Made For All Men

This world was made for all men
This world was made for all men
This world was made for all men
God saved His world for all men
All people
All babies
All children
All colors
All races
This world's for you
and me
This world
My world
Your world
Everybody's world
This world
Their world
Our world
This world was made for all men

Hear me out...

This album is one of Stevie Wonder greatest albums ever recorded ..it was released in 1976 in which it took Stevie Wonder 2 years to complete and made it a masterpiece Stevie Wonder was so ahead of his time when he made this song because it reflects on our history and the world today ... trouble with the world now days and society and the youths is because they don't know about black history people like Malcolm x....MLK....Emmit till ... JFK ... This world would be shock and the young generation would be surprised if they knew they're history
This song right here tells all and speaks the truth know your history don't let nobody keep you from knowing truth use it don't let nothing destroy the truth about our history

  19. m.... ....

The end part where the song becomes a classroom history lesson, with the teachers’ and children’s call-and-response, is brilliant. Most moving of all, I think, is the anger in the teachers’ voices. How blessed we are to have Stevie.

  43. T.... ....

    "This one's for you.......and me." #TheFourthOfJuly

  44. P.... J....

I bought this album in 1975/76. Haven't listen to it in years. Played this song yesterday (July 4th) and started to cry because the 1st line starts with "the 1st man to die for the flag we hold so high was a Blackman" and it I realized that MOST Americans do not know that Crispus Attucks was the 1st to die in the American Revolutionary War. Here we are as Americans thinking about BBQ and watching a pompous leader feed his ego by publicly exhibiting army tanks in front of the White House.

  45. C.... C....

How appropriate for today 4th of July2019."as your hand touches your heart remember we all played a part"

  46. L.... C....

ALL MEN, ALL COLORS, ALL RACES, ALL ALL ALL ALL ALL ALL ALL ALL.
We have to believe it and act on it or we will be a lost race, the human race will be a lost race if we dont.

  47. j.... s....

Mr. Stevie Wonder, just keeping it real people.

  48. y.... f....

All shades of the World are from the so called Black man. Hence the title. Let all races realize we are all different shades of the same .

    y.... f....

yomro foreal , lies. No records support any such theory. Science indicates evolution.

    y.... f....

@sandinyourshoes What Science ? Use your common sense. And did science not say the oldest living bones were discovered in Africa the birth place of mankind.

  49. s.... w....

Loved this funky song since I first heard it on the Songs in the key of life album, which is the best album ever made.Stevie wonder has the best voice of any human ever.Stevies other work, spanning over fifty years,is simply a gift to us in a testing life.I could not have imagined my life, how I got through all the hard parts, without this music to bring me some pleasure during those times. You just can't go wrong with Stevie Wonder ! Oh,by the way,I am sitting in the rain wondering how I'm going to shift some debts now I've lost my job, etc, and all that life crap, and I see many faces walking past me,but I'm looking at those rain clouds, sorry but I have not got time for humanity right now,its not my thing as of now,but as critical as I am,there is only a few shining standards...and Stevie wonder has been one of the highest.

  50. H.... W....

Stevie is just too killin !

  51. P.... s....

    any world scholars people here?

Songs In The Key of Life - The 'Sgt. Pepper' Album of Black Music!

    S.... S....

Brother my skin is white and I'm on the Key of Life. Sgt Pepper did never rock my soul like Stevie Thunder did and does. Give me this history lesson and Living In The City and I'm cutting up the polish on the dance floor in my finest threads. My brother asked me why all the music I love Is sung and done by black man and black woman. My favourite tracks, Gladys Knight… Otis Redding, Minnie Ripperton, Donny Hathaway, David Ruffin, 'I Can't Stop The Rain'… I said to my brother, I wish we didn't have to wear different colours, it makes up some shit problems

  82. T.... R....

The more I listen to Stevie's early work, the more I realize the Jamiroquai totally stole this style. They even sound alike!

    T.... R....

    Tony Richengod
Jay Kay openly says that Stevie is an influence. Ripping off is harsh and doesnt give any credit to them for their own original work

    T.... R....

A lot of artist are influenced by Stevie , me included. I would not go as far as calling it stealing but in fact adoration to the point of I want to write songs and sing like Stevie !!

    T.... R....

They didn't steal a thing, that is just how powerful Stevie's work is. How could his style not make it into the music of other artists?? His stuff is just that good.

  83. R.... D....

    AWESOME

  84. v.... h....

totally out of sight stevie wonder the best mowtown

“That’s why I love Stevie Wonder’s album called Songs in The Key of Life… He had a song called Black Man and I just jumped up screaming when I heard that record because he’s showing the world what the Black man has done and what other races have done… He named it Black Man and all these people who have got the album sing it. And that’s the best way to bring about the truth.” - Michael Jackson

    C.... L....

You can also hear the influence this track had on Michael. @4:30 sounds a lot like the way Michael would sing.

    C.... L....

    MICHAEL KNOWS YEEEEET!!

  95. L.... F....

Wow again,Thanks pop for this rich music

    L.... F....

    @Lavita Flood It's not pop it's Stevie Wonder !

  96. M.... ....

The song just proof that this guy was also a fucking good pionneer of electronic dance music, he literaly introduce groove in synth music, and was not only a awesome song writter and perfomer.

    M.... ....

Duane Goodson This record has funk to its soul. All that syncopation isn’t disco, it’s based on the funk of Parliament-Funkadelic and their contemporaries.

    M.... ....

Désolé du déterrage, mais Jean-Jacques Perrey et Pierre Henry groovaient déja pas mal avec "Eva" et "Psyche rock". Bernie Worrell (P-Funk) et Stevie se sont aussi mutuellement influencés à l'époque.

    M.... ....

@morenazo952 He used a Hammond B3 (electric organ). He started using synths a the end of the 70's.

    M.... ....

    @chucku00
I was talking about the drum machine..which is the heart of all electronic music

    M.... ....

@morenazo952 Meteotrance was talking about synths, not drum machines. Sly wasn't the first to use a drum machine, it was Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) two years before Sly.
