It’s utterly a Belinda track. The problem with Nowells is that he serves up Belinda sounding tracks from everyone from Kim Wylde, Jane Weidlin and unforgivingly Stevie. The only collaboration I can think of that doesn’t sound like a Belinda track is his work with Madonna.

One thing that no one ever seems to mention, yet seems obvious to me, is that this song is really about Sybil in "The Picture of Dorian Grey."

The lines are lifted right out of the novel. And, knowing Sybil's fate makes the song even more haunting and beautiful. That's probably what I love best about Stevie Nicks--the way she draws her own lyrical interpretation from literary sources to present stories in a totally different perspective. Among others, two of the finest examples of this are "Anabelle Lee," where she takes Poe's word-for-word poem and transforms it from a depressing, bittersweet reflection into an almost exuberant celebration of love, and "Wide Sargasso Sea," where she transforms a tale of abuse into haunting, destructive, feminist outrage. "My face, my eyes, my lips...you may have forgotten me, but you'll never forget that kiss."

"Rooms on Fire" is my absolute favorite example of this, but no one else seems to get it.
