Stevenson, Ryan - From The Ground Up (Bonanza) Lyrics

It's been a long time coming, but I'm going back to my roots
Born and raised in southern Oregon, dirt poor with nothing to lose
I learned about faith and working hard
It saved my life, that dairy farm
Now everywhere I go, I take you with me in my heart, oh

I grew up in a place nobody ever heard of
We didn't have much, but we always had each other
My roots run deep, and nothing's gonna change me
Bonanza, you're in my blood
This town built me from the ground up
Built me from the ground up

I learned to drive at 11, out by the sugar beets
My daddy's 69 brown GMC, stick shift with a bench seat
Hotel California, stuck in the tape deck on repeat
Now everywhere I go, I take you there with me

Because I grew up in a place nobody ever heard of
We didn't have much, but we always had each other
My roots run deep, and nothing's gonna change me
Bonanza, you're in my blood
This town built me from the ground up
Built me from the ground up

There's a little cemetery down off of main street
That's where my momma's buried; that's where I left a big part of me
Sometimes I get a little choked up, when I think about the past
All my friends that have come and gone, but memories that always last
Yeah, but memories that always last
Yeah, but memories that always last

Bo town, I think about you when I'm lookin' back
My roots run deep, and I will never be ashamed of that

I grew up in a place nobody ever heard of
We didn't have much, but we always had each other
My roots run deep, and nothing's gonna change me
Bonanza, you're in my blood
This town built me from the ground up
Built me from the ground up

Bonanza, you're in my blood
Bonanza, you're in my blood

Okay, I grew up in canton, illinois and literally no ones ever heard of it. I lived there seven years before moving 6 1/2 hours away from our grandparents, cousin, aunt and uncle, and friends. The, about two yrs ago my great grandma died. We all loved her. Then we moved not kidding five more times, living in each house only about a year... we stayed in one for less then six months we moved again and were all happy now. This song hits close to home for my family and me, thank you !!

I thought Ryan Stevenson sings Christian songs? I mean don't get me wrong this is a really great song and I have nothing against him giving a little credit to where he's from and respecting his parents but he kind of gives credit to a dairy farm or town for building him up and saving his life not Jesus.

"I learned about faith and working hard, it saved my life, that dairy farm."

This doesn't exactly tell you what faith he learned about and since people all over the world are listening to this song it's kind of important to know what he is talking about but he clearly says that dairy farm saved his life.

"Now everywhere I go I take you with me in my heart?"

What would that be the dairy farm?

"Bonanza you're in my blood, this town built me from the ground up."

    Not Jesus??

"I learned to drive at 11, out by the sugar beets, My daddy's 69 brown GMC, stick shift with a bench seat
Hotel California, stuck in the tape deck on repeat
Now everywhere I go, I take you there with me."

Everywhere we go we should take Jesus with us.

I understand that he wants to remember his parents and that's all good but the message that he's kind of mixing up here is that Jesus is supposed to be our savior who builds us up and makes us into who we are and Jesus is the one that we're supposed to take with us through this life and he's the one we're supposed to lean on when we need help and comfort and guidance.

Anyway great song but for it to be a great Christian song he needs to fix the message.

true... this song reminds me of my bro Joe Cheng... he's in school and a great guy. I could have been blessed to have a friend and mentor like him to look up to. But I made some stupid choices when I was in school with him, caused me to move away from him (my parent's choice of course!) and caused him to hate me and now we have a broken relationship. My roots to Joe DO RUN DEEP, let me tell you... and no matter what my parents say about him, no matter what anyone who hates Joe ( and there are so few who do!) says about him, I WILL NEVER BE ASHAMED, I WILL NEVER BE ASHAMED OF MY BRO.
