Steven Curtis Chapman - Jesus, Firm Foundation Lyrics

How firm a foundation, you saints of the lord
Is laid for your faith in his excellent word
What more can he say than to you he has said
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled

Fear not, he is with us, oh be not dismayed
For he is our god, our sustainer and strength
He'll be our defender and cause us to stand
Upheld by his merciful, almighty hand

How firm, our foundation
How sure, our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus, firm foundation

The soul that is trusting in Jesus as lord
Will press on enduring the darkest of storm
And though even hell should endeavor to shake
He'll never, no never, no no never forsake
He'll never, no never, no no never forsake

How firm, our foundation
How sure, our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus, firm foundation

Age to age he stands
Faithful to the end
All may fade away
But he will remain
He will remain!

How firm, our foundation
How sure, our salvation
And we will not be shaken
Jesus, firm foundation

One of the GREATEST songs ever! And what a collection of artists. I can't help but wonder about one line of the lyrics. What if the Apostle Paul had answered the question, "What more can He say than to you he hath said?" as if it were rhetorical. Would we ever have had his epistles? Would he have listened on the Damascus road? If I'm reading his letters correctly, especially those to the Corinthians, I would tend to think that the answer would be, "Plenty! But test the spirits."

I usually don't care for modernization of traditional hymns. However, every single cut on this album, which all are modernizations of hymns, is fabulous. I highly recommend it. A great lineup of artists: the artists on this song, listed above, plus Nichole Nordeman, Michael W. Smith, Matt Maher, Kari Jobe, Building 429, Matthew West, Newsboys, Andy Cherry, Hillsong, Brandon Heath. Wow, what a load of talent. Check it out. Album name is "Jesus, Firm Foundation".

huh before i heard this hymn on the radio I thought it was something only us mormons sang.(Motab's version is awesome). Good modern version. Though the Mormon Tabernacle Choir owns the classic.

isn't this a collab/rework of a hymn that is, like, 500 yrs old?

I love this. Much thanks to the artists who put their hearts and souls into this album. I love the depth and wisdom of the lyrics of the old hymns, and the fresh creativity and passion of the contemporary artists.
