Steve Wariner - Like A River To The Sea Lyrics

You look like you did back then
You kiss me like you did back when
You and I first fell in love
Time has been good to you
I said I always knew it would
You're more lovely every day.

Just like a mighty river runs to the sea
My love for you keeps growing
It was meant to be
It will never go away
It's deeper and stronger every day
Like a river to the sea
You know you can count on me.

These hands on the clock should know
That time just can't pass this slow
When I'm away
But I've got my job to do
Then I'll hurry home to you
I'm waiting for the day.

Think of me and just know deep down inside me this is how I feel. Its been hard for me to totally let go of my past and love again love you the way I was meant to love you.You are my heart there is no denying it.Even with all my mixed emotions I kept saying that I couldn't take that step out of this world of my late husband but I know I can and it's time for me to fly and he wouldn't want me missing out on what's truly in my heart. He and I had a long journey with lots of obstacles and we finally made it so why can't you and I make it too?

I want to dedicate this song to my wife of 15 years 1 month and 6 days who suddenly passed away on June 9 2018 of a brain aneurysm just after she got off work on June 6 of the same year. It's funny but I always told her that she loved our dog Chase more than she loved me. Her last 2 text messages to me on the day she collapsed was "today I love you more than I love chase" the last one read "EVERYDAY" then she died. I am still deeply saddened by her passing and there hasn't been a day go by that I haven't cried. I think it's those 2 messages that keep me from doing something to myself. I miss her sooooooooooo much. She was an organ donor so I know she is living on in someone else. R.I.P. Jonell till we meet again know you are forever in my heart and I love you more than i love Chase. P.S. Chase is with me and is doing okay despite the fact that he has lost his MOM.

I don't know, but Steve use to be married to Roseanne cash a long long time ago ,he put out a lot of great songs a long long time ago!!!!

    t.... s....

tom shaw they were never married.. You might be thinking of Rosanne Cash's first husband Rodney Crowell also an excellent singer and songwriter

    t.... s....

Steve Wariner was never married to Roseanne Cash.

  23. R.... C....

outstanding song, one of his very best

  24. S.... R....

    best song of his

  25. j.... m....

So refreshing to hear a vocal without screaming gymnastics and note twirling that comes off affected and fake. Also nice to hear something other than getting it on in the back of a truck with a girl and a bottle of beer. Steve is one singer who sadly, has never gotten his due.

    j.... m....

You are right, Steve Wariner has never gotten his proper due. Amazing talent that I've been listening to and enjoying for years. As for your reference to country music and trucks etc; well, don't forget about drinking out of mason jars.

He's one of the best. VERY underrated and his talent is, or should be, envied by the new kids these days...he's pure country.

  51. b.... ....

I had the pleasure of being SW's opening act 3 times, in the mid/late 1980s.
Every time he, and his band were brilliant and gracious.
He does it all, sings, writes and plays beautifully.
    Thanks!

  52. J.... ....

Thanks for posting this song! It stirs some deep emotions in me. Steve Wariner has a wonderful body of work. This song is not easy to find but is available on Steve's website.

  53. M.... M....

So moments I want to HATE but a song like this just melts it away and then I remember the goodness in life and in us. Phil and Mary Robinson

  54. M.... ....

    Well said.

  55. M.... ....

One of the finest songs I've ever heard.

  56. M.... ....

    Could not agree more.

  57. J.... P....

Love this song...... steve wariner is amazing and glad you found this original gem.

  58. O.... H....

i live in the great state of tennessee, steve warnier is one of the most underappreciaed singer in country music,

  59. j.... ....

    great song

  60. t.... l....

Steve's music is larger than life, atleast to me. It's sad that such a talented singer never got his due rewards:(

  61. g.... ....

@DaveWollenberg I would just like to add that according to R&R records this song reached #2 and stayed there for weeks. The radio station I worked for reported to R&R and as opposed to billboard (trash) R&R was a Trade mag, not a press mag. What I mean by all this is that this song was highly respected, at the time, and most purists preferred it and billboard didn't show it the truth it deserved

  62. g.... ....

I was a radio dj during this time and to this day it's by far the most beautiful, thoughtful, romantic song I've hers in country music - simple, no heavy production, simply beautiful

  63. J.... ....

    What a beautiful song.

  64. K.... K....

@DaveWollenberg this one should've been bigger don't you agree?

  65. J.... H....

@dgpage....I saw him years ago at the old Palmer Auditorium in Austin, Tx....he was amazing!!!! Still one of the most underappreciated acts in country music....
Thank the late great Chet Atkins for discovering and bringing him out to us all!

  66. d.... ....

I love Steve...I am so excited, I will be seeing back to back concerts of his in a couple of weeks on Sept 1st and Sept 2nd.....front row center and 4th row center.....I have loved his music for 29 years! Thanks for posting this beautiful song!

  67. g.... ....

I found this song on SingSnap.com. I had never heard it before. First thing I thought was I had to try this song for my wonderful wife so I tried it. Might not be just the way this is done but I love the words in it. So much meaning and feelings. Thanks for shareing it.

  68. J.... H....

@thefragile7393 Your welcome.....I think it's one of his best!

  69. t.... ....

Thank you for uploading this, I could never find the original on here either!!!

  70. C.... ....

He's won some Grammys, but, I agree, never enough recognition for such a great talent. And a good role model, too. Thanks, Steve, for your gifts.

  71. D.... W....

This song and "The Weekend" The Best there is!

  72. J.... H....

@ddebbiegirl I agree totally with you! He never has gotten the recognition he has deserved. Must not have enough drug busts and extra-marital affairs on his resume.

  73. D.... H....

I played this at my wedding in 97. Steve Wariner is one of my all time favorites. It's a shame he isn't more recognized by country radioi. Thanks for posting.

  74. A.... G....

Thank you for posting this. I used to fall asleep to this song in '92 every night in college. I just love it. Bitter sweet memories. Thank you again.

  75. J.... H....

@DaveWollenberg I had forgotten that! In my opinion one of the most under-appreciated talents in country music.
Chet Atkins signed this man to RCA...that should say it all!

  76. D.... W....

Steve hit #30 in Billboard, 4-10-93. God bless ya, brother Steve! Happy birthday, and also, Merry Christmas. (Steve's birthday IS on Christmas!)
