Steve Harley - Love Minus Zero - No Limit Lyrics

My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn't have to say she's faithful
Yes she's true like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can't buy her

In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no success at all

The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams like the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
And statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge

The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Banker's nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing

Steve Harley interprets the beauty of poetic words into song, with care and thought of backing, he is a story in music.

Saw Steve Harley Trio in Worthing, of all places, this week - best concert I’ve ever been to, Steve was magnificent. Opening song was this and I’ve played in a hundred times since, truly a great song and a wonderful interpretation by Steve.

Bob Dylan must be proud, giving this song to us all, and for letting Steve Harley do his version. Magnificient.

  5. D.... M....

One of the very best Dylan interpretations I have ever heard. Marvellously done.

I heard this for the first time some 15? years ago. Have been trying to find since that. Found by accident today. Brilliant version.

I recall this cover very well Michael, it's a beauty. A minor masterpiece from Bringing It All Back Home has been made to sound bigger and better.
