Steve Hackett - In The Heart Of The City Lyrics
Standard bearers march to the tick of the clock
It's a war against time when you're fronting the flock
Determined resolute defiant and strong
Noble and Savage know they belong
The battlefield of love a ruffled feathered bed
From fluid moist lips the benediction's said
You love them and leave them with yesterday's guilt
Everything's on schedule in the empire that you built
In the heart of the city
You close a deal Thursday at 7.45
The train home is empty you're the only man alive
The window is sealed the furniture in shrouds
In the heart of the city

Steve Hackett In The Heart Of The City Comments
"Guitar Noir" is one of Steve's finest albums with lots of great songs. If you like his guitar synth sound on this track, you'll like Pat Metheny's guitar solos from the Pat Metheny Group recordings (1981 thru present). It's more jazz oriented, but still very atmospheric.
bastidface Funny to read this right now, as I listen through his discography. Pat Metheny's guitar-synth sound is exactly what I began thinking about, right when I got to listening to the Highly Strung record. Couldn't help but wonder if that was intentional, considering I've read that Offramp is one of his five favorite albums of all time?
Steve Hackett is one of the best the music world has seen. Truly ethereal, poetic, like classical music sometimes, he's a true artist and a wonderful person. See him live if you can.
Steve transcends. Brilliant!
Great atmosphere!
What a fantastic and atmospheric solo! Well done, Steve
