Steve Earle - Slippin' Away Lyrics

Back in my old home town
There were long summer days
And there were leaves on the ground
And it was too cold to play

The city's colder than cold
It's faceless and gray
And all the dreams that you hold
Keep slippin' away

[Chorus:]
Slippin' away, slippin' away
Little by little, day by day
Slippin' away, slippin' away
Little by little and day by day

I saw an old friend of mine
Asked if he was ok
And he said everything's fine
But his eyes filled with pain

Yeah, he had nothin' to lose
He had nothin' to say
He feels worn out and used
And slippin' away

[Chorus]

Better put up a fight
Start right here today
It's time you start right
Before you just slip away

[Chorus 2x]

Then there were leaves on the ground and it was too cold to play
This city's colder than cold; it’s faceless and grey
And all the dreams that you hold keep slipping away…

    Slipping away, slipping away

    I feel it slipping away

Saw an old friend of mine; asked if he was ok

Yeah, he had nothing to lose, he had nothing to say…
He feeling worn out and used, and slipping away

    Slipping away, slipping away

    Slipping away, slipping away

    But put up a fight
    Starting right here today
It’s time you saw the light
    Before you just slip away

    Slipping away, slipping away
Little by little, and day by day
    Slipping away, slipping away
Little by little, and day by day
    Slipping away, slipping away
Little by little, and day by day

king of mars hits it on the head......alot of bands were our bands, then they became either everyone elses band or they never made it big. anyway i found it interesting steve earle got some writing credit for this song.

  68. k.... ....

    Sorry for that dude.. :/

  69. J.... L....

I've watched a few Junkyard videos on Youtube today...and I notice that most of the comments are about how the song brings them back to "good ole days." I think cuz back then they weren't a huge band (few of us knew of them). And in turn it made us feel like they were OUR band.

  70. s.... ....

I was a teenager with two cassettes of these guys. My Dad came into the basement one night , he had moved us up north for a job in a steel mill , he was homesick ever since. He was making us uncomfortable by just being there with us young guys listening to Junkyard. "Lost in the City" came on and he listened to the verse and chorus and said turn it up. Sadly my Dad never did make it back home , he died with cancer due to exposure to asbestos in the mill."Slipping Away" Brings a tears to my eyes.

  71. D.... L....

I miss Junkyard.. they remind me of the good ol days with my man on the road.. simple man and bloozin
