I saw Joan Baez perform this live at the Lakewood Theater in Dallas.  Powerful lyrics sung by that incredible voice.  It is the most fundamental thing we can affirm...God is God.

This song got me through early recovery. Pretty sure this song is about the addict/alcoholic having a spiritual awakening.

Everyday that passes I am sure about a little less, trust in God (Second step)

Maybe someone is wondering just what I got (passing it on, sharing the experience of recovery)

Everyday on Earth is another chance to get it right (recovery in general)

etc etc etc

I think we can all find meaning in this song. That's what makes it great and attractive.

Steve is such a great singer/songwriter. GOD is indeed GOD. GOD is GOOD. JE SUiS = I AM. Praise HIM.

I understand what you're saying, you're not wrong, but his life is inseperable from his music. It's like he sings in I Feel Alright, "some of you would live through me then lock me up and throw away the key." I'm sure he's done a lot of really shitty things when he was strung out, but he's just a man, and maybe he wouldn't be one of the greatest songwriters of all time if he wasn't crazy.

In his defense he's been clean for 18 years and only married once since he got sober. But just listen to his son Justin's songs to hear some of the damage done!

The guy's been married 7 times and spent a lot of his life in a drug induced haze - there'd be a trail of destruction there - so he does need a lot days to "get it right".
Love his songs though!

He's talking about God with a capital G. Not spirits. It is a religious song. He acknowledges God, albeit not a particular one.
