Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Chartjunk Lyrics
I've been you
I've been everywhere you're going
Know all that you're knowing
(Boy, I'm gonna make you mine)
That might be true
And all the restriction
In one ear and out of the other
If you feel the urge to share
Think again cause you're not my mother
Actually, I'm not contractually obliged to care
Dropping dimes
Laying sweet feeds on my homies
No one can slow me down
Dipsy-doo
I won't use the glass now
Baby, when I drive around and seize a little time
While you work out your schemes in D-League Wichita
If you flood the lane on me, brother
Watch out for my step-back three
I put the "I" in team like no other
Actually, I'm not contractually obliged to share
Buddy, you're just connected bones
So lose that, lose that, lose that telephone
And call
Us all

Damn you, Malkmus! Making me like the sounds of Billy Joel is cunning and evil!
best songwriter of a generation. and it's not close.
Wilco (Jeff Tweedy specifically) would like a word.
Jennings and Skiles together again! Make a sequel to this song!
Great tune, Great muso. This tune reminds me a lot of Steely Dan's tune, Lido !
+John Knottenbelt LIDO SHUFFLE is actually a Boz Scaggs song but I understand the possible confusion with Steely Dan.
Diggin the energy this is sending...will have to listen on to know if I stay or go with 'em.
... And a touch is Steely Dan around the solo-ish parts. It's a rock-n-roll orgy. Love it.
Yes, a bit Billy Joel, a bit Thin Lizzy... = great song !
Billy Joel would be proud.
Thank U
Big song!!!!!
frighteningly sounds like billy joel in places… maybe it's a grower but i can't abide joel
It's a direct rip from Joel. Malkmus often takes small licks from really popular songs by artists many Jicks fans would dislike. Off hand, he grabbed the main riff to Aerosmith's "Same Old Song and Dance" for "Platform Blues" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" by Rod Stewart. Now he took one of the hooks from "Still Rock and Roll to Me" by Joel. He also was doing "Benny and the Jets" during live sets a few tours ago. And BTW, every musician I'm talking about in this paragraph is excellent. When it comes to music I have no reason to believe anything is "bad" until it's utterly awful, if you get my meaning. I don't know. Music is my life, and there's just so much of it, and most of it is wonderful.
Love thiss
