*MY INTERPRETATION*
This is a song about a lover whom he deeply connected with and abruptly decided to end things with him. This song expresses his hurt about it. Even the cover art *_cough cough don't look at boobs cough_* expresses some sort of intimacy between the two.
"Don't tell me that you love me. I won't tell you that I love you." is just him trying to cope with her loss by saying that he doesn't need her but the line "I'm desperately in need" reveals that he needs her. 1:08 is the depiction of how there are still echoes of thoughts of her in his mind. "Once you had seen your own way. Once you thought you knew the right way." shows that it was her that broke up with him. "But the truth is: I'm freakin' out about this whole. Man I'm supposed to be." shows that hos whole life revolved her and isn't able to make the transition into being single. "I'm nervous now 'cause she can't know, I'm desperately in need, 'Cause uphill's hard to reach. Fly down," He's torn between having the decision to make between making things right with her or moving on without her, but eventually decides that he must reconnect and have her at his side no matter what and DAMN THE CONSEQUENCES! He further expresses his pain of losing her by recounting one incident that showed how deeply they connected with each other and how much they loved each other.

For whatever reason with this song there are a lot of instances of people claiming they have they lyrics and them being pretty wrong and nonsensical, and it was bothering me in a way that it usually doesn't.
