Steely Dan - Midnight Cruiser Lyrics
Felonius my old friend
Step on in and let me shake your hand
So glad that you're here again
For one more time
Let your madness run with mine
No time is better than now
[Chorus:]
Tell me where are you driving
Midnight cruiser
Where is your bounty
Of fortune and fame
I am another
Gentlemen loser
Drive me to Harlem
The world that we used to know
People tell me it don't turn no more
The places we used to go
Familiar faces that ain't smilin' like before
The time of our time has come and gone
I fear we been waiting too long
[Chorus]

Steely Dan Midnight Cruiser Comments
This just epitomizes the 70s to me in both fun and sad ways
For pitch a bitch adrenaline junkies.Normal people would say"Y'all motherfuckas is crazy"!
This is a diamond. I first heard it not until about 1989 and I was just knocked over.
Where would you place Steely Dan on the list of greatest bands ever?
crazy awesome guitar and nice vocals, so happy to hear it, thanks
Do you have a favorite Steely Dan song?
@Edward Sholar Thanks for asking and love too many of them so...not really to that, I really like, for instance, Third World Man, Midnight Cruiser, Gaucho, any song on the Aja album, Babylon Sisters, King of the World, oh..many of them and find that this album and the Gaucho album songs are marvelous and listen quite frequently to them on the Youtube, have a nice day
Me and my best Lady friend used to sing this, my favorite SD song. I think I may just sing it in an upcoming cabaret.
Sing, girl, sing!!! You can't beat "the dan"!!!
Any other Steely Dan favorites?
A great midnight song by Steely Dan. Another great song with midnight in the title is Midnight Man by James Gang.
Steely Dan recently played at the Met in Philadelphia.. phenomenal concert great to have flashbacks from the 70s!!
..first time hearing this. NICE!..
A forgotten classic.
I wish this song was a little bit longer.
good, but I think this is not their best.
awesome tune, thanks for the video, dudes and dudettes!
HELL YA that was when music was music.
me encanta: los angeles y la ley
Have a review of this great album Check it out Just 5*
This was their first LP.
Who was the singer, I'm not sure it was Fagen or Becker.
Sung by the drummer Jim Hodder

Love this song.
Jim Hodder – drums, percussion, lead vocal on "Midnite Cruiser", backing vocals
Supernatural
This takes me back to 1973 or 2. Their music is more relevant now than ever... pair of good head phones, and Steely Dan.
I wish it was 1972 again.
When God made Steely Dan he broke the mold
RIP Jim Hodder and Walter Becker
this is a reach, but is anyone here because of harry styles?
What's up!
Sarah Kuhnert yea I am saw these guys six times every time they played this song the crowd would sing along they were great

Best Dan album by country mile. RIP Walter Becker and Jim Hodder
Simply Phenomenal!
Becker and Fagen - genius musical composition and flawless production using the best musicians available and demanding near perfect performances without regard to number of takes. My favorite band and perhaps yours! My buddy and I drove from Massachusetts to Florida non-stop for spring break in 1975 in a VW beatle. We really only needed one tape for the ride: "Can't buy a thrill".
I swear the low end on the chorus is the greatest thing I've ever heard.PURE SOUND
they ait!
the time of our time has come and gone (period)
probably my favorite dan song.
last night i was fucking my lady to this song...i was banging her dog style with such ferocity that accidently her head rammed into the headboard with great force...we ended up in the emergency room at the hospital...she had a cat scan and it showed a bulging disc in her neck. funny cause it was the bulge in my pants that did the damage. what we do for love...
George Martin All Righty
We are all so spoiled.
New artists should listen to Steeley Dan....this is what you should aspire to
One of the great songs from one of the truly great albums.
All of you who dont like this song, you obviously have rotten hearts that pump only some kind of unfeeling gelatinous goo...
Typical Dan , don't get enough credit , I'm blessed to b a fan

This is such a good song. I love to play it on a juke box on Friday night when the crowd is turning down....
… what a debut album ….
anybody listening to in 2019?
Eu, de São Paulo, Brasil! ♥
For sure. This was another of there kinda poppy tunes but still great.
Yes, yes, and more yes, sense 1972, and I've got a few years left
@Randy Rowe Yeah, some of they're songs on this album were a little poppy, but it takes me back to the blissful days of high school.
No time is better than now
This is the only song that original drummer Jim Hodder ever sang lead on...
Gene, you are a rare original "Dan Fan!" And no one will ever sing it like Jim again!
Sorry Gerrie, I referred to you as "Gene"
Nope, he sang lead vocals on their first single as well.
Yes a new day, steeley Dan these guys are great.... Frank misssssschief
Gentlemen losers lives matter.
Saw Steely Dan second billed to Chicago at old Tampa Stadium, can't remember the year. Midnight Cruiser edges out as best of a bunch of hits for me.

Are there any live versions out there with Walter Becker singing? I once came across an audio track from the 90s with Becker on vocals but have not found it here.
Well...I had found it but now it's gone..off to look again

to an adrenaline junkie I know. the action is the juice.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! He is one of my favorites!
God In Heaven it just doesn't get any better than this!
The genius of this song and their formula is the way the instrumental parts blend perfectly with the vocal line. You could strip off the vocals and the song would stand alone as an instrumental. The two together result in multiple hook tracks that the listener can follow together or individually.
Steely Dan is unique in that they were strictly studio musicians. Although, they were rock n roll in the beginning their style evolved over time becoming more eclectic. If i remember correctly, I had Aja and Gaucho. But more than likely i had a best of which i played over and over
From 46 years later, no truer words have been written :
THE WORLD THAT WE USED TO KNOW. PEOPLE TELL ME IT DON'T TURN NO MORE.
THE PLACES WE USED TO GO. FAMILIAR FACES THAT AIN'T SMILIN' LIKE BEFORE.
THE TIME OF OUR TIME HAS COME AND GONE.I FEAR WE'VE BEEN WAITING TOO LONG.
Love me some Steely Dan !!!!!!!... Sometimes you CAN BUY A THRILL !!
From a 65 year old gentleman loser, please one more time, let your madness run with mine.... The time of our time has come and gone. I fear we've waited too long !!!!!!
cool music that i love
Can't Buy A Thrill? I think not...just listen and listen and listen. What an amazing debut album!
I bought this album new in 1972....all my stones and zeppelin buddies made fun of me...soon,after bringing this album to parties everyone loved it...still listening to it!....
Alphonse stugats Marino.
I challenge anyone to find a band whose music was better engineered in the studio.
Thelonious my old friend. Step on in and let me shake your hand.
Fagan's background singing is spot on.
And Jim Hodder's lead vocals were unique.
Older Brother Shared The 8 Track With Me Circa 74...I Have Been All In Since
I hope other generations get a peek at this....my older brother was kind enough to turn me on to this in 73-74...daughter born in 93 and its a go to for her
Walter Forever
Saw them in the mid 90's in Camden, NJ. They did this one, couldn't believe they broke it out.
