Steam Powered Giraffe - Over The Moon Lyrics

I’m over my head
I’m head over heels
I’m heeling to love
My love is over
Over the moon

There’s a place inside my heart for thee
Love is such a terrible thing to be

Maybe I’m just fabricating
What I really wish to see
You got me girl, you got me
Oh, you got me good
You’ve got me feeling [x4]
Oh, I’m over the moon
Time to recover
To rediscover
Over the lovers
My heart it shudders

Oh, I’m over the moon
I’m done with you. My patience runs thin
All the little cows impaled on your chin
Maybe I’m just fabricating
All the tingles in my skin
You got me girl, you got me
Oh, you got me good
You’ve got me feeling [x4]
over the moon
Out of the love trench
Over the heart wrench
Put me on the bench
My love thirst is quenched
I’m over the moon
You got me good, you got me [x3]
Oh oh
You got me good, you got me

You’ve got me feeling [x4]
over the moon

You’ve got me feeling [x4]
over the moon

At first this seems like a love song, but at a closer look it seems to me like it's a break up song.
In the intro, it sounds like they're saying "my love is over". Plus you have lyrics like "love is a terrible thing to be", "you got me good", "I'm done with you", "maybe I'm fabricating the tingles in my skin", "over the heart wrench", and things like that. It doesn't quite seem like a love song. Plus, I just recently got out of a not so great relationship, and now I feel over the moon :)

  10. Kurt Miller

Possibly one of my favorite love songs by Steam Powered Giraffe, and one of the best songs on a truly amazing album.

For anybody wondering about the reference in the artwork (which like the song, is epic btw):

1902's "Le voyage dans la lune" by Georges Méliès - a truly amazing movie which is worth watching - its available in the originaal black and white format, although the rare colourized edition is also available for viewing on youtube after it was discovered and restored in 2011. There was also a smithsonian article about it (link below) and a successful 2011 Martin Scorsese film 'Hugo' which discussed Méliès' life and even referenced the Montparnasse derailment.

    Cyndi Crawford

thank you for mentioning that--I was going to mention it too, and checked the comments to see if someone had beat me to it. :D

    Miranimal

I saw it in my theater/film history class. It was very entertaining and amazing for what they could do.

    Cyndi Crawford

same here--in my communications and mass media studies degree, I had to take classes like that, and that film was one of the many notable films that I watched in my classes. ^O^

    Arrisa Rose

I got to watch parts of it in my AP Euro class! Also, I believe you can find it on Netflix.

I love the album cover's reference to one of the (first films?), all I know about it is it's an old film, and the album cover is a sorta reference to it, or so I assume.

  15. tj leonard

    Cool sound.....

  16. Matt Poptagonist

oh snap liking the homage in the song art

  17. Cpt. Bearshark

You guys should start making vinyls.

    Chainmail Monkey

The only reason they don't is because they know it's start another hipster uprising, like when they make a Deadpool soundtrack vinyl lol

    Cpt. Bearshark

Yea, that actually makes a lot of sense, forgot about that aspect.

    joeseatat

But I want to buy a vinyl for my Mom who also loves this band and has a record player. She's kinda confused about CDs...and technology in general...but she can handle a record player.

    Aedyn Poole

    And they did!

  18. GooB

love the nod to that old silent movie

  19. Kiely Sarah

  21. Havelock

I love the intro! It's gorgeous to listen to.

  22. MC. Gemstone

I like how the picture is base off that old movie where the people went to the moon I just can't remember what it's called though :/

    Nope, why?

    A Trip to the Moon
    maybe

    Madelyne McCann

  23. Adam Price

That artwork reminds of this film, I can't remember the name: It's about a boy who has a robot that can draw, and it drew something like a moon with a face impaled by a missile. I think I might look for what it's called

    Adam Price

The Invention of Hugo Cabret, I think that's what it's called, from what I researched

    JayTheBoat

I think Bunny said the artwork was inspired by Méliès' 1902 film A Trip to the Moon :)

    Adam Price

+JayTheBoat Yeah, I remember the film (and the novel, although I never read it) also being about the maker of that film. You see, I only saw snippets of it on telly, but I did see the part when he showed parts of the films he done, including that film.

    Bill Citrus

    I think it's calld "Hugo".

  24. Syd SugarSkull

    LEGO.BY.PS.
