Statler Brothers, The - Shenandoah Lyrics

Oh Shenandoah I long to see you away you rolling river
Oh Shenandoah I long to see you
Away I'm bound the way cross the wide Missouri
Oh Shenandoah I love your daughter away you rolling river
Oh Shenandoah I love your daughter
Away I'm bound the way cross the wide Missouri

For seven long years I've been a wandering away you rolling river
Seven long years I've been a wandering
Away I'm bound the way cross the wide Missouri
Away I'm bound the way cross the wide Missouri

They had the best version. I guess since they wrote it, it would be best!

Actually, the song has been around a long time. maybe fur trader origin

This song was written in the early 1800's. But they do perform it beautifully.

lacouerfairy I am preparing to perform this song and wondered of its origins. It is such an old song. No author has ever been attached to it. It began as a sailors work song, or ‘shantie.’ There are, understandably, a variety of lyrics. I am going thru many of the versions available on YT. So far my favorite is by the. Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The harmonization on this song is better than any of their other songs. They are listening to each other and you can hear it. Listen...
