Statler Brothers, The - Maple Street Memories Lyrics
We were both nine years old
When you came to town
I remember the big Allied Van
My momma went over, and
Took you all lunch
And the first time I saw you
Was through the screen door
When the paper I threw missed the porch
Lord, it's been years since I carried the news
But I still carry the torch
Of Maple Street memories and Cherry tree games
Summer nights and ice cream cones
Take the red from the roses, the sun from the sky
Leave my Maple Street memories alone
We played hide-and-seek in the buildings out back
I was easy to find, I admit
As the years flew away, it got harder to hide
The fact I thought you were it
Then we stood by the lilac bush in your yard
Your pink prom gown late in May
Your mom took our picture, I took your hand
And you took my breath away
With Maple Street memories and Cherry tree games
Summer nights and ice cream cones
Take the red from the roses, the sun from the sky
But leave my Maple Street memories alone
Leave my Maple Street memories alone
I never go back, I don't stand in the yard
And look at your window upstairs
In my mind I see you combing your hair
And blowing kisses at me in the air
Then one time at Christmas
I saw you come home
Your arms full of children that day
And it was later that night
When I put mine to bed
I put my Maple Street memories away
Maple Street memories and Cherry tree games
Summer nights and bicycle days
Leave me with something that my heart can take
But take those Maple Street memories away
Take those Maple Street memories away

Statler Brothers, The Maple Street Memories Comments
I was raised in one of the greatest small towns in the country - Jacksonville, Alabama. Many of us consider it our own “Mayberry” and this song reminds me of the wonderful memories of those days.
Great song and memories
Beautiful almost beyond words. These are the kind of singers and songs that made country music great. Maple Street Memories is extra special. Millions of miles removed from the rubbish that passes as "country" today. This is a truly haunting song from the wonderful Statler Brothers. High Five from Ireland....!
My home was on Orchard lane. A happier ending for me tho. Last year my dad died and after almost 25 years, my husband and I are living here where I have always wanted to be.
Johnny, you're most kind. I was speaking metaphorically about there
being a Maple St. in every town. I was imagining a one-size-fits all tree, just a street with all kinds of trees that provide comfort. Growing up, mine was a Sycamore tree on Plum Street. Blessings.
WHAT A SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They say the uric sounded better on vinyl records but it was because the music was better
What a great song, I sure like me it brings back memories, whether there was a Maple Street or not.
Don't you know there's a Maple Street in every town? : )
Hupf Florence not where I live at. Out in the country. There’s a maple tree, oak tree, pine tree and,etc but you are right, all towns have a Maple Tree Street. A great comeback.
Great song ! Hello type in "Ron Howard cover" listen to Opie sing "The Dance"! To all of us who have lost loved ones "Life goes that fast, and we will see them again that soon"!
These guys sing about everyday situations and make you think of your past
Great video. Reminds me of my own childhood.
I have loved the Statlers forever, and surely miss Lew.. saw them when Reba opened, and Jimmy was new.. hes good, no Lew, but turn his mike down!!Jimmy overpowers the others!

Just love this songs
We all have memories about our past.
I think this song gives us the feel of what life once was when growing up someplace. I'm only 47, but so many memories I have of where I grew up still flow through my mind to this day
I miss you all guys on TV
Remember music like this when a song was good to listen and when the song told a story now you just need good looks and big boobs for the women but maybe no singing talent!
The harmony of these 4 are terrific
If ever a man could fall in love with four mens voices . then I did with these four, four piece harmonies, who ever did it better? NOBODY
LOVE that car
As many times as I heard this song or seen this video, I still wonder why those two didn't end up together.

We all have that sweetheart that we outgrew. Life.

Grew up listening to these boys singing in the living room on tv. Enjoyed the songs. I go back just thinking about those wonderful days. Good days, round family.

Where Is My “Maple Street Memories” /(ㄒoㄒ)/~~
Wish Lew DeWitt was still there
Most of this was filmed in Staunton VA, the problem was they don’t have a Maple Street there so they got permission to change the sign....some of it was filmed on the streets where I lived....great song.
There is too a Maple Street in Staunton.
Tell the Reid brothers that....not when this was filmed....
To bad this was not really filmed on Maple st
There will never be another group as good as The Statlers! I was a teenager when their show was on TNN and I never missed an episode.
I used to walk down McFadden avenue in South chehalis Washington when I went to school. That was my "Maple Street."
Oh how I miss great music. Rock and Roll died in the late 70s or early 80s and Country Music died in the 90s.
rock definitely died on the eighties... what we got now is old bands that still release new albums... there are actually real good New bands nowadays.. but just a few
I love the statler brothers
I love The Statlers. How have I never heard this fantastic tune until today?
ffirst time i have heard this, tears in both eyes
The song brings back memories of living in a quaint, small to medium sized town where the living seemed to be cozy and there was a great deal of fellowship and camaraderie from living in such a community. Many of the homes then had character in spades; inside as well as outside. Compare that to the suburbs of the 1950s to today and you'll see a distinct difference! I can appreciate why watching such a video could trigger an emotional response!
yes, every time i hear it
Reminds me of my high school sweetheart. We dated all senior year and ended up going to different colleges. We chose not to have a long distance relationship. She's married with kids now. I'm happy for her. Sometimes I think what if, but you can't change the past.
great song love it

Your post, although two years old, gave me hope for those your age, and made me smile.

+James Crane Interesting story.
James Crane i
James Crane yeah when Lew Dewitt was in the band
I grew up in Everett, MA which back in the 60's was a true small town. I can relate to this song whenever I go home. It's not as small anymore, they may even get a Casino, but the memories remain. Love the Statlers.
What a beautiful video. Growing up in the late 50's and early 60's in a small town, I can really relate to this video. It always brings back some wonderful and sad memories that will usually bring a tear or two to my eyes.
memories are great
This brings back all of the happy memories of my life in Eufaula, Alabama. I walked several miles to and from school without any worries. People knew each other and we were always safe. Anyone taking a vacation, please visit Eufaula and be sure to see the tree that owns it self and treasure the plaque that states; "Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree". I love the antebellum homes the streets where we played in the huge grass areas that divided the directions of travel. Eufaula is one of the most beautiful cities in the South. I wish I was still there and visiting my school mates.
dburnham1941 nobody gives a damn about alabama
i grew up in a small town, it wasn't till i was in my second year of High School before we started to lock house and cars. you could ride or walk all over town with no fear. you were not afraid to Hitch hike if you had to or pick someone up. Oh to go back to that time
I married my Maple Street memory, it has now been fifty years for us.
@HW Barnes that is nice to hear
Congratulations
I didn't marry my Maple Street memories and now I'm glad I didn't because I met a girl from five blocks away and it's now been 63 years. Great song though....
Great to hear. I was engaged to my Maple Street memory but she passed away before we could be married. All these years later, I still think of her fondly.
وش تحسون فيه هههههههه
one if my favorites by them....
We all had a "Maple Street" to remember!
Redding St in High Point, NC for mine. Her name was Elizabeth, another great Statler Brothers song. My Aunt & Uncle lived not far from where this video was made, Alleghany Ave in Staunton, VA.
I finally married my "Maple St Memory" 28 years later. It's been thirteen years now, and not only is she my wife, she's my best friend and the best thing that ever happened to me...........twice!
Not all... My memories involve no street, just the fun times I had growing up in the Australian outback with only myself for company...
Mine was brachport New York still love that village
@mrbmac0509 how did you ever wait that long... I got divorced in February, and already I'm like... I'm done... I cant do that anyway, MY Maple Street Memory, is Lori, she is married, they have 2 or 3 kids... same sad crap... you can Facebook me if you want.

I think this is the best song that you have ever made, who wrote this song, it just gets to me in a good way
Don Reid wrote the song. I think it is the best one he wrote. I don't believe any of us ever forget our first young love. This song tugs at my heart.
The cars weren't as reliable as today, but it didn't take an arm and a leg to fix them, and most people could do their own repairs. Good luck with that today.
@stas3h I know now they gotta hook it up to a computer & then charge you out the ass for repairs
+stas3h Those old straight-sixes would take a lickin' and keep tickin'.
oh amen, and a lot of owners don't even want to learn
Love this song.
Almost nothing like a 1955-57 Chevy!
coincindently I USED to live on Maple Street as a kid!!!
I am not sure I agree with you. All of my cars and the truck I now drive have last over 150,000 miles. The AC in my house is guaranteed until 2031. And at work I have got the union to back me up.
EXCELLENT !!!!
im from croatia

So sad yet so true and...also better left where they belong ..in the past.
God I love this song. Reminds me of my Grand-dad. He is amazing
Statler bros bring me back to my childhood, used to watch them at Grandmas house on TNN all the time. Great days/
This is one of my favourites! I never got to see them in concert though.
Best in country by far! Love you all
Gin
Live they were all you hoped thy'd be. Consummate entertainers. Saw them twice.
The autos I had back then certainly weren't better than now. The women were very young as I was. Man, parking on the Skyline Drive was great at night; I'd like to do that all again but it's far too late. The Statler Brothers were popular and I listened to them daily.
Sure wish I had such memories. This is one of my favorites the Statler Brothers did.
AMÉRICA
yankees
A fantastic video and great song!!! Check out the Youtube video for "Buster and Billie" theme song--the one with the school bus going through the countryside. Oh, how sweet, the memory.
A movie you'd like is Red Sky at Morning. It has theme music without words, but the story set in New Mexico during World War II is wonderful.
THIS SONG TAKE ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD, THAT WAY I LOVE THIS SONG.
Long time ago (I was young) my father bought me The Statler Brothers' Cassette, I listened to it everyday then. I really miss the old good days. Oh how does time fly away? Will the time the good old time ever fly back?
