Statler Brothers, The - Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart) Lyrics
Passed me by one summer day, flashed those big brown eyes my way
And oh, I wanted you forevermore
I'm not one that gets around, swear my feet's stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
I saw your lips, I heard your voice, believe me I just had no choice
Wild horses couldn't make me stay away
I thought about a moonlit night, arms around you good an' tight
And that's all I had to see for me to say
Hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart

Statler Brothers, The Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart) Comments
I have loved the statler brothers my whole life. I am happily 53.
Love this version by the Statler Brothers, beautiful harmonies.
Remindes me of my grandma she always called my mom Mary Lou
Great version of a Rick Nelson classic.
So satisfying
Check out ccr's version, it's bad ass!🤣
My moms name was Mary Lou. She got tired of this song but I listen to it to remind me of her.
I met a very sweet lady named Mary Lou when I was volenteering at an assisted living community. I couldn't help but sing this song is my head the whole time we were talking.
This is my first time hearing the Statler Bros version of this song, and I can honestly say that I think they did it some justice.
I hated it until they sang it.
Love The Statler Brothers and all their songs!
Harold Reid is the bass
My name
Marylou Parisian hello , goodbye Heard
@Benjamín Z. It's Goodbye Heart.

The Statler Brothers sing Gospel Music too. They used to do it on tv.
Russell Hancock I have 5 full albums of theirs, they're my all time favorite oldies country band
They have some great gospel music.
this is my favorite song
Love this song and the guy who sings bass
Kim Nunley thats Harold Reid
Love the bass singer! Reminds me of listening to gospel songs at my grandparents house years ago.
ChessieSeaboardX I have a lot of gospel oldies, they're called hymns, when I say alot... I really mean A LOT! LOL
The Statlers put a gospel song on every one of their albums throughout their entire career. In addition to that they have several gospel albums that are wonderful. The last one they did before they retired is called Amen. Look for it. It is amazing!
@Sarah Williamson The Oak Ridge Boys also included @ least ONE gospel song on their albums.
Kevin Miller. I am well aware.
That deep voice is amazing.
Andrew thats Harold Reid
I love Don Reid's voice- the lead singer. <3
I saw Harold at the grocery store today
i like the guy with the deep voice!
That's Harold Reid.
that's Harold his brother Don is the lead singer
The great Harold Reid on bass vocals here. He's the only one I've heard that can rival Richard sterban of the O. R. B. as far as hitting low notes go.
@Molon Labe If you think HIS voice is deep, listen to JD Sumner; his voice is even deeper, even when he speaks.
Ha haaa!! My stepmother's name was Mary Lou and she was the proverbial Wicked Witch of the West. But that don't deter me none from likin this here song. Love the Bassist...Ol Sarge...
His name is Harold Reid.
The boys hit #3 on ACC, 7-13-85. God bless y'all, Statlers!
a good make out song
I <3 country! Why? Well... San Andreas, you know. ;d
Not quite the version compared to the one by Ricky Nelson. Ricky does a better job.
+Glen W. Ford That is a song from the Oak Ridge Boys, isn't it.."Your're The One," I mean?
+Useless2112 You have to watch out for 'rumors,' because that is all they are..and they are usually spread by fools lol.
By the way, "Hello Mary Lou."
+Glen W. Ford lol. Are there really songs on those topics.."gangsters and dicks?" What was my response to gabby Nellie? I do not see her message or my response.. :/
+Jim Cholley -Yes--Rappers have used that topic occasionally and as for you guys reading this I`m not taking a cheap shot at rappers. Gabby Nellie (Useless2112) hasn`t responded but you sure hit the nail on the head with '. The group Geto Boys have hit that topic albeit it`s more on street gangs & drugs.
+Glen W. Ford Oh okay..and just for the record, rap/gansger music is nothing I would get into. I would not even call that stuff "music."
@Clinton Neumann 2014!
This is by far my favorite version of this song.
Mine too!
@Twitchy Hedwig I love the deep guys voice lol
Twitchy Hedwig the Statler Brothers are my all time favorite oldies country band, I have 5 full albums of theirs lol
they have hymns to
@The Italiano 21 What about 'hers'? Get it? Lol.
who cares
If they made a song as good as this for a men, I would save it and play it over and over again ... to remind me every day of my man.
Sure beats Ricky Nelson's version!
because of Bass Harold Reid.
@Adam Kelleher I like Rick Nelson's version.
The ultimate karaoke hit
My Moms song I miss her so much
Thumb's up if you're listening to this in 2012!
CheonJae Park hahaha
I'm listening in 2019.
