Starr, Edwin - Agent Double-O-Soul Lyrics
(Double-O-Soul)
I dig rock and roll music
I can do the twine and the jerk
I wear strictly continental suits
I've got a reputation of being
Gentle but bold
And that's why they call me
Agent Double-O-Soul, baby
(Double-O-Soul)
Agent Double-O-Soul
(Double-O-Soul)
(Double-O-Soul)
I'm agent Double-O-Soul
(Double-O-Soul)
I don't carry no pistol
I don't wear a false mustache
And you'll never see me carrying
Around a little black bag
My real name's no secret
But from me it will never be told
I'm just known as
Agent Double-O-Soul, baby
(Double-O-Soul)
Agent Double-O-Soul
(Double-O-Soul)
They call me Double-O-Soul, baby
(Double-O-Soul)
I'm agent Double-O-Soul
(Double-O-Soul)
There once was a fella
Who was down on a rock and roll
He couldn't get himself together
He didn't have no kind of soul
The office put me on his case
And I tracked him down right away
Now he's a deejay on a radio show
A station that everybody knows
Call me Double-O-Soul
Call me Double-O-Soul
Double-O-Soul
Double-O-Soul
Double-O-Soul
Double-O-Soul
At my job, I work real hard
I'm on the go
Rain, sleet, or snow
I'm agent Double-O-Soul, baby
(Double-O-Soul)
I'm Agent Double-O-Soul
(Double-O-Soul)
They call me Double-O-Soul, baby
(Double-O-Soul)
Baby, Double-O-Soul

CONGRATULATIONS TO MOTOWN'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
AND TO THE LATE AND GREAT
EDWIN STARR WAS ALSO A PART
OF THE MOTOWN FAMILY ALONG
THEIR ARTIST DEVELOPMENT
Heard this 1st time 1967 from CKLW WINDSOR ONTARIO--When in NEW YORK CITY. STILL THE SHOT 50 YEARS LATER!!!! R I P Mr. STARR!
CKLW.... The Motor City. R I P Byron MacGregor.
GREAT SONG FROM THE LATE SUMMER OF 1965. EDWIN STARR, BACKED BY THE MOTOWN FUNK BROTHERS, MOST NOTABLY JAMES JAMERSON ON THE ELECTRIC FENDER BASS. EVENTUALLY, BERRY GORDY JR. BOUGHT ALL THESE SMALL LABELS WITH THE ARTISTS,BECAUSE HE WANTED AN EXCLUSIVE SOUND OF HIS OWN, DIDN'T WANT ANYONE COMPETING WITH HIM.
In the mid 70s Isaac Hayes had a radio show in Memphis called the double o of soul
1 of the best
for the new James Bond.
FORGET JAMES BOND.... E.S. DESERVES HIS OWN MOVIE!!!!
Motown Magic is a dope cartoon for bringing these classics back and also highlighting a beautiful black family. My baby boy loves it.
It broke my heart when I found out that he was GAY!!!! God Damn It!!
A station that everybody knows call me double oh soul baby is that supercool or what?
Your Sound Is The Best Ever! And He Died Rich!

ive song with Edwin on stage this is pure motown soul
Saw Edwin star live in 89 he was a bad Ass .His voice was power peronified !
This track is so heavy. That pedal is stanky
The funk Brothers played on this song-
Milan, Correct!! I came here from the Bassman Bob Babbitt Facebook fan page. Bob was a Motown Funk bro who played on many of Edwin's hits.
P.S. "War" was the greatest IMO.
It's 2 am and Edwin's on stage the Wheel, the Torch and god knows how many other all niters. He belts this out, the gear kicks in again, heaven, thanks mate, a much underrated artist.
Have just bought this for the instrumental flipside
Quite honestly an absolute powerhouse of a sound
Puts today’s so called classics to shame ....
This one record I won't let go TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE TO many memories

I did that at The Buttermarket, Shrewsbury, late 1980's - sadly before the days when people had cameras on their phones as I would like photographic evidence. :)
I've heard about this song for years, and now I've finally heard it.
50 yrs on gi'tar ... when i'm down on the R&R , a good shot of JB or other selected numbers - i'm TOGETHER 🎼
I heard this on KOMA.
Couldn't buy it in Omaha, so I ordered it from Chicago!
Edwin Starr alumni from the neighborhood of east 55th in Cleveland ohio along with the Womack brothers there was pride in the success of these singers
i had the privage to sing on stage with Edwin we sang war
isn't this a Motown song?
No and yes... It's not recorded at Motown, and not released on Motown (although Starr later went to Motown), but the musicians here are "The Funk Brothers", who where sometimes moonlighting for other labels. They were fined by Gordy for doing so.
Yes, really...all the instrumentalists were Motown's Funk Brothers, moonlghting on this Ric-Tic single.
and then Gordy ended up buying the label...which was how Edwin Starr became a Motown artist
Motown eventually purchased Ric-Tic Records and acquired its masters and artists. Other artists included The Fantastic Four, and possibly The Parliaments (although they may have moved on from Ric-Tic at the time).
Berry bought up several of the other local record companies. That's how he acquired the Spinners, Shorty Long, Johnny Bristol, Jr Walker and the All Stars.
Here is a idea- how about making a movie about a black James Bond called Agent Double-O-Soul! This song can be the soundtrack theme and you can hire Jamie Foxx as the lead character! What do you think? Thanks for the idea, Tony McGee!
Ric-Tic. Happy days
If they make a Black James Bond movie this should be the theme song.
Oh yeah
They did. There’s a movie of the same name
Its called Shaft
