Staple Singers, The - If I Could Hear My Mother Lyrics

How sweet and happy seem, those days of which I dream
When memory recalls them now and then
And with what rapture sweet, my weary heart would beat
If I could hear my mother pray again

If I could only hear my mother pray again
If I could hear her tender voice again
How happy I would be, would mean so much to me
If I could hear my mother pray again

She used to pray that I, on Jesus would rely
And always walked the shining gospel way
So trusting in His love I seek that home above
Where I shall meet my mother some glad day

If I could only hear my mother pray again
If I could hear her tender voice again
How happy I would be, would mean so much to me
If I could hear my mother pray again

Mavis Staples still performs. She is amazing.

She does indeed. I uploaded some tracks from her most recent project a while back.

Do you recall a studio recording of "see What the End's Gonna Be"? I recall it from  the late 60'/early70s, I believe it was a group like the  Clouds or Silvertones. It was upbeat, almost a capella. Thanks

Bob, the version you are probably referring to is from the 1983 "Lead Me" album by the Jackson Southernaires. It is track 3 from the album and entitled" Run On See What The Ends Gonna Be". The late Roger Bryant Jr. is on lead.
