St. Vincent - Psychopath Lyrics
Running down the highway like a psychopath
All the flames and fury honey at my back
Wanna make a bet whether I make it back cause
I'm on the edge of a heart attack
Distance is exactly like a blowing wind
Putting out the embers and the tiny flames and
Keeping the big ones burning."
So I am standing in the sand where we said
"It's the best day of my life" and meant all of it
Keep me in your soft sights
When all of the rest have moved on
And I'll keep you in my soft sights
Keep me in your soft sights
When all of the rest have moved on
And I'll keep you in my soft sights
When all of the crowd has gone home

She will never die
Beautiful goth Krusty the Clown Annie Clark or Smith
The chorus reminds me of the chorus to "Creep" by Radiohead.
Distance is exactly like a blowing wind, putting out the embers and the tiny flames and keeping the big ones burning

"just stopping by"
please, end this pathetic display - people dont wanna hear ur cry for help

Your life must be so sad, i prefer talk about the things i like, and not the things i don't, see the bright side of life, spread love, not hate
may i know why?
kakaiba talaga haha
Thanks, you can go now
Bowie-esc-guit.solo!! Great,Annie !!!
tfw the chorus of this song is almost identical to the opening melody of Ornstein and Smough's boss music.

This might be the last place I would expect to see a Dark Souls reference
I can't escape that she looks like a greyhound
Greyhound carry more weight on them.
WTF she is Beautiful nothing like a dog 🐶!!!
i'd be honored if somebody told me my facial features were as prominent as a greyhounds.
+onenotused You sound like a dog-hater.
Someone said that she looked like hundreds of different beautiful women. Guess its the bone structure. Also was compared to bambi in grace of staggering. So maybe hundreds of different beautiful women and animals.
Bass @1:40 reminds me of "heartbeat" in Tommy James' "I Think We're Alone Now"!
[Yes, I'm THAT old! And I love Annie!] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XC77Rw-q6o
Love this song!!
Anyone know why Annie never performs this live? I mean, never. The only song on St Vincent that hasn't been. Something personal?
I could be wrong, it was a year ago after all!
Those opening aspirated vowel sounds ("melismatic" she mentioned in an interview), I literally woke up to in a start-your-day earworm/eargasm. And I've done it with other music of hers!
Come on, Z.A.! Just because it's not "gospel" don't put it down! I personally wake up & do a Zen "Ah, ah, ah, ah ..." like this. And the line about the wind keeping the big love alive. Jeez! When you get older you'll appreciate this.
I'm just awkwardly old(er), esp. my humor... Annie's unique, for me, hitting old rock/music roots in my head, like an "Awakening"...really.
I think The Shins could do a mind-blowing rendition of this. As soon as I heard this track, I immediately thought it sounded Shins-y, particularly like it would be from the 'Wincing the Night Away' era.
I would love to see that.
Love the album but I think it's really sad the lengths Annie went to finally 'make it' after treading water in the fame game for years. Packaging, not the music itself is all that matters these days.
This is her best album by far
I don't agree, but dear God is it absolutely excellent.
Picking ONE St Vincent Album versus choosing favorites from each one in regards to what constitutes "the best" is so, so difficult. I tend to favor the latter namely because I don't listen to albums straight through, but I imagine that experience alone could alter a person's entire listening experience.
I wonder if anyone has listened to her first album 'Marry Me'. 'Marry Me', along with YT video solo performances of 'Paris Is Burning' and 'These Days' ,( a cover of an early Jackson Browne song ), and the video for 'Jesus Saves, I Spend' were my gateway to her music. Her new song 'New York' is gorgeous by the way.
Mark Bignell I have every bit collected and discover it all to be excellent. There is a change of style but it is all superbly hers. New York she thought could be someone's favourite. Too modest. Almost any song is someone's favourite. They are all my favourites.
I wonder if this going to any lengths happened at all. Seems to match the organic growth she claims for herself.
Annie, comment on my comment please.
Your drummer sounds like a drum machine. As a matter of fact, stop it with the constant dumb beat. Use percussion for a change. I want to like your music, but that constant dumb beat is shitty as hell.
I'm sure she'll take that on board pal...
+Robert Higgins Listen to her earlier stuff then. I like it better without the constant beat too, but I appreciate her music for what it is.
You ever stop to think about why that repetitiveness works? Do a little lookin' and you will find lots of artists who's music flourishes with the use of simplicity, whereas a bunch of drum fills would take away from the drive that the minimalistic style gives it. I'll tell ya what, you write us a song, record it, mix it, master it, and tell us how it goes. You might just be onto somethin'.
+Devon Angell - u're totally right. real percussion is perfect for her earlier sound, but it would sound too real for a song like this
sounds exactly like what a synth would say.
Excellent.
