St. Vincent - Dilettante Lyrics
Oh Elijah, don't make me wait
Nobody's winning
The sharks are swimming in the red
Oh Elijah, don't make me wait
My mind goes creaking down the hall
Slow down, dilettante
So I can limp beside you
And follow in your house too
Hang on, street savant
My bank in my back pocket
How far you think it'll take us?
I'm always watching you through a keyhole
Let's not forget
Let's not forget
Let's not forget
Why we crawled here
Oh Elijah, don't make me wait
I got no patience for an estrangement, anyway
Wake up, Avenue C
Your hometown is still sleeping
You're like a party I heard through the wall
Invite me
But I'm always watching you through a keyhole
Let's not forget
Let's not forget
Let's not forget
Where we crawled from
Oh Elijah, don't make me wait
What is so pressing?
You can't undress me, anyway

Aporriptetai haha cool me too, it took me a while to realize that your username is greek hahaha
Your's is universal, no way I could have found out you're greek
best song on the album for sure
3:16 is glorious.
fucking LOVE this tune
I bought this album on a whim after a night out.
I needed music to soothe my hangover.
I spent the whole album transfixed by how awesome she was.
Then I tried to get some sleep.

Fun fact about St Vincent she writes most of her music 30 minutes before she goes to sleep.
That is actually super interesting. I always feel the most motivated and creative late in the night when I should have been asleep hours ago.
The end is so haunting
Loveeeeee itttttt
i woke up every morning with this song stuck in my head for the past two weeks. can't get enough of this album.
Strange Mercy (and a little Actor) Syncs up magickally with Confessions of A Dangerous Mind! check it out https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6pX_PyqTZCjvy_2CK3GeJISBsdCUgCgW
The ending gave me chills. Fantastic auditory stimulation.
If I had a belly button, I would shove Annie Clark in there to live with me forever!
Thats a lil nasty mate
what do you mean if
@Phanto im guessing he or she has an outie.
That effect continues through to the next part. IYou might say it comes in 'prematurely'. But yeah, there's no doubt that John Congleton is this generation's Tony Visconti and Bob Ezrin rolled into one.
At 1:11 there's a chorus when she breathes. The production in this song and album is crazy
St. Vincent is perfect! <3
I'm surprised that someone else remembered that album, half a century old and still just as good if not better than it was on the day that it was released.
Half a century? 50 years!?
I got one about tortillas.
Adblock's cool brah
I wonder if she chose the name Elijah randomly or on purpose. According to Judaism, the savior we're supposed to be waiting for is named Elijah. So in a way, this song is her asking for a savior (not in a literal religious sense, maybe even in just a sexual sense) in the form of the city.
The synth that starts at 3:16 makes me feel all warm inside :3
How did she get that sound at 3:15? How could i get that crank sound on guitar?
turdyvidios this comment is old as fuck but maybe like a cocked wah and some other modulation type pedal. A digitech whammy probably has sounds just like that.
1:54 is just the most noticable example of an insane production trick that pops up again and again throughout this song - an echo chamber opens out of nowhere, then abrubtly shuts before the sound that's feeding into it stops. Totally disorienting and totally genius.
Actually a quite creepy song. But sublime
It feels like she's singing directly at me T.T
You need to get Ad-Block Pro. No youtube ads ever again.
session goer
That part is among the most wonderful, sensual, revealing pieces of music I have ever heard. It's almost sexual.
@odm423 it was probably the copyright owner. it certainly wasn't me. i get no profit from ads in my uploads.
Toyota Prius. Now let's see if you get it.
I knew of St. Vincent before Anthony Fantano, but I love finding new artist's through him!
@MrBlacknikka Well, it changes mode quite a bit. Like a lot of classical music, it shifts between happiness and sadness very swiftly (for example, the loud part at 2:02 seems lower than the rest of the song), whereas most rock songs stay in the same mode. Or if they do, they only do it a couple times.
All green and no red so far - just as it should be!!
This song reminds me of... a tune of classical music, Disney songs or something.
Please tell me, what is that?
This sounds a LOT like Regina Spektor, especially that part on 1:06
Let's not forget.
one of my favorite albums of 2011
@ompampinos engrish prz! nah, jk have your fun you guys
That song really turns me on.
I'm in love. I hope my girlfriend doesn't mind!
0:50 electronic mind fuckup starts. love it
I stumbled upon this group when I was trying to download songs onto my phone. Now I'm obsessed. :P
She's really growing on me.
Sounds like futuristic Glam Rock. But without the sleeeeeze.
@ompampinos Χαχα, δεν εννοούσα ακριβώς αυτό αλλά δεν πειράζει...:)

@eyetranceend maybe some weed, but think i'm pretty far away. All i need now is a lady gaga/justin bieber comment. And some weed :)
@ompampinos If I would have known you were fiending, I would have hooked you up with a dose.
The acid is kicking in strong now, I just needed that funky ass guitar and horn.
@Crushercurtis702 I read a review that had the theory that it's about wanting to sleep with a Biblical prophet (Elijah).
@travman1984 Hey, that's the first drug related comment on any of my videos, thanks ;)
This makes my teeth feel funny
I wish that ending instrumental bit was its own track. Fantastic.
hipster view count makes me feel uneasy
SO MUCH OVVERATED
