Squeeze - The Apple Tree Lyrics

Power station by the river
Grinding slowly to a stop
Clock still ticking on the mantle
Flames still flicker on the log
Coffee brewing in the kitchen
Where the door is open wide
Glass upon a hoovered carpet
Eyes are glowing in the night

It's the silence you can see
Hearing shadows behind me

All the buildings standing empty
All the trains are standing still
Cars are scattered by the roadside
There's no top upon the hill
Nails have scratched upon the outside
Of the empty chapel door
But I don't think that the father
Wants to live there anymore

There's no bone for you to pick
No more wax around the wick

Shot the arrow from the circle
At the apple on the tree
From a garden that was Eden
Strange the fruit it bears for me
And the wind will spread the fire
And the rain will ever fall
If no one reads the writing
That's been written on the wall

Underneath the apple tree
There's a ghost who waits for me

The apple tree shakes its arms
Its fruit falls
Its fruits are tasting strange
The apple tree is shaking

The gate way song for me on this album. When i first got into Squeeze i was not having this album. This one made me think better. Whole album has gems.

This song gives me the creeps.  What a horrible catastrophe Japan suffered, twice.  We hope that level heads will prevail and we will never see an 'apple tree' again.

    RIP Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

Note---It's sounds REALLY GOOD when toggled up to 720p HD resolution.

@ ionacaddy - I agree---It's almost like some weird catharsis---Like---Inside, we've always known that this was coming....I mean, the guys who recorded this were certainly insightful---Considering the fact that this was recorded & released in 1984-1985!

Yeah, the Alex Jones caller sent me. How perfect that it's linked with Epitaph by King Crimson.
The seven bowls of God's wrath are being released on the earth.
It's interesting to think of the idea that the psychotropic mushroom is somehow an
alien visitor from outer space, fallen to earth, so to speak. Psychedelics can convince people that they are god, that the universe somehow revolves around themselves. We can do whatever we want, like build nuclear power generators on fault lines.

The tree of knowledge will be our down fall after all.
    Another AJ listener here.
Why do the pictures of these mushroom clouds seem so aesthetically pleasing to me?
