Squeeze - Black Coffee In Bed Lyrics
There's a stain on my notebook where your coffee cup was
And there's ash in the pages, now I've got myself lost
I was writing to tell you that my feelings tonight
Are a stain on my notebook that rings your goodbye
And I'm back on the beat
A stain on my notebook
Says nothing to me
Oh, now she's gone
And I'm out with a friend (out with a friend)
With lips full of passion
And coffee in bed
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
With the way that you left me, I can hardly contain
(Hardly contain)
The hurt and the anger and the joy of the pain
(Joy of the pain)
Now knowing I'm single, there'll be fire in my eyes
(Fire in my eyes)
And a stain on my notebook for a new love tonight
(New love tonight)
Oh, now she's gone
And I'm back on the beat
A stain on my notebook
Says nothing to me
Oh, now she's gone
And I'm out with a friend (out with a friend)
With lips full of passion
And coffee in bed
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
Oh, now she's gone
And I'm out with a friend (out with a friend)
With lips full of passion (ooh)
And coffee in bed
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
Oh, from lips without passion to the lips with a kiss
There's nothing of your love that I'll ever miss
The stain on my notebook remains all that's left
Of the memory of late nights and coffee in bed
Of the memory of late nights and coffee in bed
Now she's gone
And I'm back on the beat
Oh, a stain on my notebook
Says nothing to me
Oh, now she's gone (now she's gone)
And I'm out with a friend (out with a friend)
With lips full of passion (ooh)
And coffee in bed
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
Now she's gone (black coffee in bed)
And I'm back on the beat (black, black coffee in bed)
A stain on my notebook (black, black, black coffee in bed)
Says nothing to me (black coffee in bed)
Now she's gone (black, black coffee in bed)
And I'm back on the beat (black, black, black coffee in bed)
A stain on my notebook (black coffee in bed)
Says nothing to me (black, black coffee in bed)
(Black, black, black) Oh, coffee in bed
(Black) coffee in bed
(Black, black coffee in bed)
(Black, black, black coffee in bed)
(Black coffee in bed)
(Black, black coffee in bed)
(Black, black, black coffee in bed)
(Black coffee in bed)
(Black, black coffee in bed)
(Black, black, black coffee in bed)

Squeeze Black Coffee In Bed Comments
New love tonight 😘
I had the honour of seeing Squeeze in 1993.
Fantastic.
Squeeze should have been so much bigger
Wow these guys were complete genius, every one of there songs tells a story x ive loved them since there beginning lol xx
This is so old I don’t even know what I’m watching
All these English bands way ahead of the video curve. Internet of Music was MTV back in the day. Would never have been played on American radio. Very solid.
Where did all the good bands like this one go?
Squeeze has always had a great sound, melodies and lyrics... Big Fan since 1981.... BTW, Glenn has that John Lennon sound which is always a good comparison.
Is there any truth, does anyone know, if this song is actually about heroin use? I’ve heard this rumour.
I got here from Family Guy.
The opening organ melody and kids throwing the ball has been permanently burned into my memory since the summer of 82
I hear a snotty voice in the background :)
And Curtis in the foreground. Great!
Excellent song. Love it.😁💯👍
By squeeze
Lyrics for intellects
Song isn’t silly ? All their songs are ya ... basically the same. Their with a Girl. The Girl leaves them and you have to listen 14,000 times to figure out what they really mean. Plus most of the lyrics are better understood in England 🏴
Oh to be young again, when I first discovered Squeeze.........I so miss 1982 and great songs like this
What a great band
Ah, the 80s, when we were all very thin and had a lot of hair.
lololol true, but we still have great taste in music Bob!
@shona beggs , yeah, only dementia can take that from us.
@Bob Taylor 😂
Great song but my back is killing me!!
Is that actor Ron Eldard??
Way to fake that guitar lead
Like the song
The only reason I clicked this suggestion was because I placed my thermos on my nightstand, got off work early, won’t get up early tomorrow due to a schedule anomaly............rather than throwing out my coffee, like routine suggests, I placed it on my night stand to sip the rest of it tonight as I binge on you tube this night. Coincidence?
Since I first heard Joss Stone, I've always thought a female version of this featuring her soulful voice would be rather wonderful. I remember seeing Squeeze play this in Sheffield before Sweets From A Stranger came out. An immediate standout song.
really like this one !
God I wish it was 1982 again!
The girl they show at 0:25 looks like the girl from MJ's Thriller video. At 0:27 now she's gone.
Squeeze....just so freakin' good!
life at 13
Happy birthday Chris Difford
Always hated how the song is telling one story but the music video is telling a totally different one.
Love Squeeze, saw them live, Awesome! Miss this kind of music!! ♥️💫
oh my god that is not my Squeeze.
I have seen this on Night Flight way before I ever seen it on MTV
Back singers: Elvis Costello & Paul Young
This is just a good song that's still relevant and holds true still today.
We prefer Community Coffee in Louisiana
203 people are pissed he is out with a “friend” and can relate ahahahaha
This singer would have been a good one to play John Lennon in a movie I feel
I like my coffee dumb, slutty and blonde????? They even make it that way??? ???
Bullshit! I did'nt see any black coffee at all ad noo bed, only a hott black chick.....wait ...wait.......ohhhhh.....nevermind :-X
The girl in the white dress looks a bit like Saorise Ronan
I went to their concert yesterday!
Yea, cool song and plan to give it a go soon. A blast to sing live, so many people will ask you what it was called and who it was by.
I love that they got Brian Wilson guest starring on the drums!
Gilson Lavis. Squeeze's drummer since inception.
3 years ago was my comment
i think the keyboard player is jell jell omg wtf is that face at 3:10
this is ME! love it
Oh God , It's so hard growing old. Beauty fades , but full lipped singers always live.
кто то усиленно слушал Crowded House )))). И правильно делал. Отличная музыка того времени
This song still stands strong
I saw them in 1991. The voice on this frontman is even better live - outstanding.
So me right now
Awesome song for intermittent fasters
I heard this in a Starbucks. It made me very happy.
Oh memories Love this group
Outstanding band. Glen Tilbrook's vocals are just incredible.
Are you telling me you synch'd the video to the music off a cd you had?! Holy fuck, bro, but you're amazing. It's perfect!
when i saw them in 1990 they had the crowd join them in singing a "round". Different sections of us sang "black, black, black coffee in bed" each starting at different times. it was great fun. Squeeze was (and is) one of my favorite bands. And im a bloody yank.
If I recall correctly, this was the very first video I ever saw on MTV.
This was first played not long after I graduated high school in 78. Brings back good memories.
I love the soul in this song. Damn
There have been 2 songs that have woken me up from a sound sleep the first time I heard them, this is one of them. I remember where I was and who I was with at the time. And I kind of had the theme of the song going on at the time.
Chris Difford is a scream on his solo tour and Squeeze still touring too! http://www.squeezeofficial.com/shows/
Gary Numan on bass.
The only way to have coffee unless you're Lyle Lovett~
LENNON/McCARTNEY OF THE 80's
🖤🖤🖤
Saw them live at the The House Of Blues
God, how I miss the 80's...
MTV is dead
Props to the drummer....Subtle yet sophisticated!..
Nice. I like coffee in bed...
I used to watch Video Jukebox religiously. That's were I first saw Weird Al.
There's a stain on my notebook
Where your coffee cup was
And there's ash in the pages
Now I've got myself lost
I was writing to tell you
That my feelings tonight
Are a stain on my notebook
That rings your goodbye
With the way that you left me
I can hardly contain
The hurt and the anger
And the joy of the pain
Now knowing I am single
They'll be fire in my eyes
And a stain on my notebook
For a new love tonight
From the lips without passion
To the lips with a kiss
There's nothing of your love
That I'll ever miss
The stain on my notebook
Remain all that's left
Of the memory of late nights
And coffee in bed
Now she's gone
And I'm back on the beat
A stain on my notebook
Says nothing to me
Now she's gone
And I'm out with a friend
With lips full of passion
And coffee in bed
Great song, silly (as usual) video.
I remember I was living in Wilmington, NC at the time. I bought the CD and then also recorded it onto cassette so I could listen to it in the car. The perfect music to be driving around Wrightsville Beach during the early afternoon on a Saturday, formulating your plans for the night.
Squeeze's best song IMO. Love the full 6 minute version.
You can hear that Deacon Blue might have got an idea or two from this
Word up! A chick breaks your heart, shag her friend!!!
O M G im old i love this
I remember when this song came out in the early eighties, this is not the original video. The original video features a black woman in bed, the song is about his affair with a black woman.
Greatness....
Skipping school, MTV, and a bag of weed!
Wtf is thus
Great song and interesting well thought-out video.
Still my favorite Squeeze song and the first one of theirs I ever heard.
I mean...this video is absolutely horrendous lmmmfao.
❣❣reminds me off being 16
Squeeze had a great run. Great song writers
The video is so dorky but the song is classic.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Glenn reminds me of Simon Baker.
Beautiful voice
This one of music's perfect pop songs.
Tempted sucks. This is Squeeze.
Nothing sexier then a natural Woman who don't follow the crowd with tattoos and body piercings. #80'sLADYS
Wow! That brings back so many memories. I remember HBO's Video Jukebox. I also remember a time when I was watching Video Jukebox with my parents (who were much younger then than I am now) and they really love this tune. Squeeze will always be one of my favorite groups and my favorite genre of music is country.
Saw them on Landsdown Street in Boston for a Halloween show sometime in the 90's. Great, timeless sound.
Nostalgia isnt what it used to be.....
