Springsteen, Bruce - Tunnel Of Love Lyrics

Fat man sitting on a little stool
Takes the money from my hand while his eyes take a walk all over you
Hands me the ticket smiles and whispers good luck
Cuddle up angel cuddle up my little dove
We'll ride down baby into this tunnel of love

I can feel the soft silk of your blouse
And them soft thrills in our little fun house
Then the lights go out and it's just the three of us
You me and all that stuff we're so scared of
Gotta ride down baby into this tunnel of love

There's a crazy mirror showing us both in 5-D
I'm laughing at you you're laughing at me
There's a room of shadows that gets so dark brother
It's easy for two people to lose each other in this tunnel of love

it ought to be easy ought to be simple enough
Man meets woman and they fall in love
But the house is haunted and the ride gets rough
And you've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above if you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love

This song I knew the first time I heard was a song about the journey of life. Since 1987 I have never been without this album. The video matches the song. Nothing like a cold day at the beach. The beach in winter is lonely and sad. The ocean always seem different to me in winter. Being a surfer It was a feeling of it was alive and could eat you up in a heartbeat. Like don't let the breaking wave get you are you 'll get dragged in. Like I can' t get to shore fast enough and out of its reaches. Great ending its very haunting to say the least. The ending to the movie The Warriors. In the city Joe Walsh another great ending on a beach. This whole album is powerful it helps me when I'am hurting and down. Or when death comes and takes a loved one Jan 29 2019. Its why I'am here. When all feels lost. This album is like a bright Lighthouse showing you the way back. Nope not a party album. Not the most flashy album Bruce has ever done. But for some of us it is priceless and thank God Bruce made it. 32 years ago. Time sucks. Don't blink that is the truth. Kobe only 41 and his 13 year old daughter. His wife and daughters will take a very long time to heal. I pray for them.

  19. S.... R....

This is the message, to go through it, like when --you gotta say to a pregnant woman, the only way out is through. that's life. go through it. not over it, around it, beside it, back stepping. gotta go through it.

  20. M.... S....

At 4:20 the sign says, " THIS IS NOT A DARK RIDE".....but this is a VERY dark song, growing up in 80's was great but by now you start to realize the best times of your life may be behind you and your DARK RIDE has already begun!!!!

I was a teenager in 1987, age 16 & hadn't learned to appreciate Bruce Springsteen. As an adult, having relationships & experiencing all the things we cultivate, collect, treasure & regret along the way, slowly realized his music was great, even amazing. I finally understood hysteria he induces.Of all his songs, this, in particular, hauntingly resonates, w/ profoundly honest & simple lyrics, the line "It ought to be easy, ought to be simple enough, man meets woman & falls in love, but this house is haunted & the ride gets rough. You've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above." To me, one of the most soul-stirring lyrics I've ever encountered. Now, looking back on a first marriage, at 19, unraveling in hateful hostility. My second marriage, a fun & exciting ride, complete opposite of first, sadly ending w/his sudden death at age 45. Just as much my friend as lover & spouse. A painful season of grief followed. Between marriages, I was engaged to the love of my life. He sank ever deeper into alcoholism & unspoken despair, raging battle inside him. So intense, he couldn't find words to even express it was happening. He got sicker & sicker, as I drifted away, when he wasn't pushing me away. We let go of the grip of our hands & hearts. I got up, walked away, but it was extremely messy, taking a yr to completely cut ties, both of us moved to different states, no contact info given. This song resonates w/me, the house is haunted w/ memories, ones that scar & remain & exorcises itself, the only way it can be done. The ride gets rough often, especially in young adulthood, but for valid reasons that you'll understand many years removed from those times. Eventually, if fortunate, you arrive at a place internally, easily learning to live w/what you can't rise above. The process of getting older provides wisdom & ability to have level of perception unavailable to younger adults. It's a level of maturity referred to in this song & you either get it, or you don't.

2020 still loving this eerie beautiful song. Feels like 1987 all over again remember a better time and place. Lived in San Bernardino before years later it would become hell on earth crackhead central. In the mid 80s it wasn't as bad. Anyway remember this video was on heavy rotation on MTV yes when played music videos for a living.

I finally get why they call him the king. I never really listened to his music. Not until I saw blinded. A movie that I didn’t even want to see. And after seeing the movie I became angry. Angry at myself for never listening to his music. All those decades wasted

    The boss ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  60. A.... B....

Bruce Springsteen 🎸 Tunnel of love, love it.

  61. M.... B....

Me, I was a big fan 4 the 1st 2 albums but after Born to Run broke big. His sound was different. Don't get me wrong, happy for his success but just before that time I saw him at the State theater in New Brunswick and he didn't sell out. I didn't want to "work" for tickets. I do like a song here and there on various albums but at my core it's jazz for me. :)

  62. J.... S....

Ive been trying so hard to get into bruce springsteen. Lol I just can't.

    J.... S....

You either connect with music, or you don't. No worries, but don't force it.

  63. O.... ....

    ...down..in through..this tunnel of love....

  64. C.... Z....

Only Boss song I truly like.

  65. J.... B....

    Diciembre 14, 2019.

  66. G.... O....

    This is mammoth ...

  67. B.... C....

This song has passed the test of time, in my opinion. An underrated classic, surely.

  68. R.... P....

Not a Springsteen fan but he kills it with this song. The man describes beautifully and poetically all the vicissitudes of that emotion which is love.

  69. j.... b....

" You gotta learn to live with what you can't rise above ".... you said a mouthful sweetheart.

  70. R.... G....

"Fat man sittin' on a little stool, takes money from my hand while his eyes take a walk all over you."

  71. R.... G....

During his married-to-a-supermodel phase.  This whole album wasn't received well.  I did like this song though.

  72. b.... ....

    masterpiece!!!

  73. O.... B....

The words. The lyrics. Incredible writing.

  74. O.... B....

Nobody cooler than the Boss. Nobody.

  75. g.... 4....

It:s so easy for two people to lose each other........

  76. J.... D....

I often wonder why this song never made it to his greatest hits album. Anyone know perhaps why?

  77. S.... R....

In the tunnel of love. Easy for two people to loose each other. This song, reminds me of Brene Brown, who works on the gift of love that comes when two people are vulnerable. Her message is so clear, we need to listen. It's not about the woman, always being a mystery, and it's not about the the guy, being so tough, that he's falling apart, and dying inside. We gotta go into this Tunnel of Love. Each and every one of us. "This is not a Dark Ride!"

  78. J.... ....

    Great great song.

  79. R.... K....

His guitar solo is PHUCKING ROCKIN!!!!!

  80. A.... M....

I want to live with Bruce in this tunnel of love

  81. A.... M....

    The story of my live...

  82. L.... R....

I love this song. He really made me feel his passion about how it feels to navigate down the rocky path that love is...

    L.... R....

There's a room of shadows that gets so dark brother
It's easy for two people to lose each other in this tunnel of love

    Says it all

  83. H.... P....

richness of tone, expansive lyric , bruce and his group were great...

    H.... P....

What do you mean " were " great. They still are and he's 70 now. Look on here for some recent shows. Bruce and his band still got it.

  84. D.... N....

Many people think it's strange to see The Boss carry a six shooter with Nils and Stevie on the payroll. People forget that Bruce was a folksinging guitarist in NYC before the transition to rocker.

  85. F.... M....

    Incredible sound!!! the best 80'

  86. R.... T....

This song reminds me of how liberal Democrats in the state of New Jersey. Made NJ a hole over the last three decades.

  87. D.... C....

I really like a lot of Springsteen's work but this one... this one I love.

  88. a.... p....

Haunting. Essential. Primitive perfect truth. I love the Boss, Candys Room, Thunder Road, but this...eternal perfection. Listen in 19? Listen FOREVER!!!!

  89. O.... T....

how come her singing kinda brings me into a trance, you have to hear her calling? or is it just me!

  90. C.... M....

One of the greatest songs ever

  91. j.... l....

    Perfect

  92. P.... I....

This is when music was real music

  93. L.... K....

I’m a native Texan, never been to Asbury Park or Jersey for that matter, but I remember feeling cold and isolated when I heard this sing....even in 110 degree temperatures of deep South Texas where I was working at the time. It’s my fave Springsteen sing and yes, that line, “then the lights go out and it’s just the three of us, you, me and all the stuff we’re so scared of” is devastating. It always struck a nerve with me. It made me realize there was a relationship I was which had gotten very crowded. It ended, neither one of us died and for both of us it became a minor footnote, just another past relationship that didn’t work out.

So yeah, If this video is supposed to make you feel cold, lonely and dismal, , then mission accomplished. Still love it. This is a song you feel more than any your Other senses

  94. N.... S....

Amusement rides, I'd say , the beach sunset Cruise too. Early may, w the ship anchored together just floating .. while they cuddled.

  95. j.... b....

    Fucking love this song ......

  96. L.... ....

This was always a fake-out from Springsteen.

  97. M.... ....

Who's listening to this song in 2020? Yeah, me neither, but soon, very soon ...
