Funny how Bruce flat out says he does not like this song. Didnt like his Baritone voice and I assume he hated the lyrics as well.. I try to wonder if this song was released offically on a album would we like it or complain. Or do we cherish it because it wasnt released and its rare. I have liked this song the 1st time I ever heard it. Bruce just does not like it. So is this a good song yes or no with keeping those things in mind

As much as I love Bruce when i listen to this & Tracks & various bootlegs he really didn't always get his song choices right

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! Song/music are wonderful memory triggers (a person can hear a tune and is immediately transported to the first time they heard it). So for me this song is not only the epitomy of a person's ability to love, but it is a sweet, treasured memory of the first time I heard it. Thank you Bruuuce and Thank you to RBC for sharing!

He thought it was too mushy, maybe not hatred. Iovine called him up when The Promise came out and was wondering why it was left off and Springsteen told him to calm down, told him it was a hidden track.

Uh, what? How did you come up with the idea that "Bruce hates this song"? Nothing in the interview indicated that.

Bruce hates this song, according to the new issue of Rolling Stone: The interview with Jimmy Iovine. In fact, the whole article seems to paint Springsteen in an unflattering light, at least to me. He reportedly flung Born to Run into the pool of the hotel he was staying at, after he heard it for the first time.

The Born To Run thing is true he wanted to record it live at The Bottom Line but ended up loving it

how can a guy write so so many songs that touches everyone?? For me Bruce springsteen is the entertainer of all time....I loved Elvis but he didn't write all of his songs,,I think it's time the Grammys honor MR Bruce Springsteen with a lifetime achievement award !!! even though Bruce has more entertaining to do !! Why is this version slower than the Darkness re-release?

Proof if ever it was still need that Springsteen is the finest songwriter of the last 50 years. This wonderful song was not considered good enough to get on to Darkness on the Edge of Town. For any other artist it would be seen as beinbg one of their best and on a bests elling album, but Bruce the maestro punches out classics like this in his sleep.
