Springsteen, Bruce - The Ghost Of Tom Joad Lyrics
Men walkin' 'long the railroad tracks
Goin' someplace there's no goin' back
Highway patrol choppers comin' up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleepin' in their cars in the Southwest
No home no job no peace no rest
The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad
He pulls a prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Waitin' for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
Got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
Bathin' in the city aqueduct
The highway is alive tonight
Where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Waitin' on the ghost of Tom Joad
Now Tom said "Mom, wherever there's a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight 'gainst the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me Mom I'll be there
Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand
Or decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."
Well the highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad

"Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."
The New World Order begins as the Beast Kingdom. Daniel 12:1 First Michael the archangel stands in heaven with Jesus. Revelations 14:6 Michael flies in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue and people saying in a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgement is come; and worship him that made heaven and earth, and the sea and the fountains of waters. Daniel 12:1 and there shall be a time of trouble such as NEVER was., and at that time thy people shall be delivered. Everyone who's name is written in The Book of Life. Isaiah 26:20 Jesus tells his people Come my people enter thou into thy chambers, and shut the doors about thee, hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel saying Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all the nations drink the wine and wrath of her fornication. Babylon is the USA. Russia, China, Iran and others attack us because they have greater weaponry than us and we are left desolate. Revelation 14: 9 The third angel followed saying with a loud voice. If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead or in his hand, 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the Wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. These left behind people are referred to as the Grape Harvest because they will experience the wrath of God. Those being delivered by Jesus are referred to as the Wheat Harvest. The Grapes of Wrath are the people left behind who will be killed for their belief in Jesus.
The Grapes of Wrath is the end of the Gentile Church, and the beginning of the New World Order and Beast Kingdom.
Non ho porti dove poter morire
Non ho cuori dove annegare
Attendo, quì nel tuo silenzio
Il giorno della resurrezione
Tra le tue lontane braccia,
E ti porto dietro con me ad
Ogni sconfitta, convinto d'esser
Stato almeno un brivido
Nel tuo cuore.
Ma qui tutto tace, qui tutto
Giace, amima inerme in una
Nebbia perenne vado cercando
La tua benedizione, legato alla tua
Croce che salva ho solo ricordi
Da vivere in eterno nella
Mia solitudine, ci sono
Solo volti sbiaditi e mangiati
Dal mare.
One of my favourites from the Boss, its right up there👍
Woody Guthrie brought me here
I prefer the Rage cover.
I very much prefer the rage against machine version to this
just came here to say that. the lyrics are perfect for Rage
NetwerkGuy actually Bruce Springsteen captures the mood of the lyrics representing Tom Joad from Grapes of Wrath much better than the hardcore ratm version
Mattt Francoeur ^^^
He’s just as talented and insightful as Bob Dylan.
Who else only came because rage against the machine?

QUI DOVE DORMONO GLI ANGELI
A STENTO SI SENTE L'ODORE DEL MARE GRIDARE
UNICI OCCHI PIANGONO DOLORE
MENTRE IL FUOCO ARDE E BRUCIA OGNI RESIDUO
DI VITA, CI AVEVANO PROMESSO L'ETERNO MA NON SAPEVAMO
QUANTI ALBERI PIANTARE
SU OGNI SPONDA DEL FIUME
E LE RADICI HANNO
BEVUTO OGNI LORO SEME
E DATO AL VENTO OGNI FIORE
ORA GIACE IL DESERTO COME NEI NOSTRI
CUORI ORA GIACE L'ECLISSI E OCCHI ORMAI MORTI
NON SMETTONO MAI DI ASPETTARE L'ALBA
Im just here filling my cup with Springsteens liberal tears.

The Grapes of Wrath are the souls that are left behind after God snatches the true believers out of this planet. The souls that are beheaded for their faith in Jesus during the time of Jacob's Trouble or the new world order are referred to as the Grape Harvest. They experience the Wrath of God over this dark evil planet.
This song calm me down when I'm nervous in bad day, spectacular voice, spectacular use of instruments in way to make clear the monstrous sadness the soul of the lyrics have. I love you Bruce

I've never been to America but I have been in some states. ...
He wrote that album when he had bad depressions and was close to end his life. Glad he didn't.
The closest thing America has to an actual folk singer.....
I just finished listening to THIS version of the song, i always thought RATM wrote this song. I didn't know it was a cover. But after hearing this version, it's a masterpiece. Both versions are powerful. Bruce's version makes you sad for the situation, where RATM version makes u angry that these situations happen, very fitting for both decades. Well done by both artists.
That RATM album is all covers
I'm Raging ..
Tonight's repeat play. Another sad mellow song of heartache and pain to curl up and bury myself in. I wish I could turn my despair into something so beautiful. To give a voice to the invisible and unheard, the destitute and the disenfranchised. As relevant today as the character of Tom Joad was in Grapes of Wrath. It's why I want out of this world. Even the news brings me close to tears.... Men walkin' 'long the railroad tracks
Goin' someplace there's no goin' back
Highway patrol choppers comin' up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Shelter line stretchin' 'round the corner
Welcome to the new world order

No home no job no peace no rest
The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad
He pulls a prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and takes a drag
Waitin' for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
Got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock

RAGE wore it better
Quite peculiar for a billionaire to sing songs paying homage to a fictionalized( but based on true historical events) character Tom Joad( and the sufferings of the Joad family). The real life families that the "Joads" were based on suffered and died at the whims of millionaire/billionaire Greed.
Seems like some sort of peculiar coming clean, confessional, or an attempt at clearing of a conscience here. Just appears that way to me. Maybe some other well to do modern Elites need to listen to this fellow conscience confessional. There are countless "Joads" everywhere today, if the blinders are removed, if even for a moment. It will take much more than a song to bring about any lasting impactful change though.
If he needs a million acres to make him feel rich, seems to me he needs it 'cause he feels awful poor inside hisself, and if he's poor in hisself, there ain't no million acres gonna make him feel rich, an' maybe he's disappointed that nothin' he can do 'll make him feel rich. Sound like anybody you know?
SENTIRE L'ODORE DEL MARE
CHE TI MUORE NEL CUORE
NON AVERE PIU RADICI
NON AVERE PIÙ NAVI CHE TI RIPORTANO A CASA
SONO PARTITO CON IL FUOCO NEL CUORE
ED ORA RIPORTI SOLO VITTORIE
E AMAREZZA NEL CUORE
VINCENDO SONO ANDATO VERSO
LA FORZA DEL CAMBIAMENTO
VIDI ME STESSO NEL MARE
DA QUELLE STELLE MARCHIATO
AD ESSERE UN PERDENTE
HO TROVATO UN NUOVO VOLTO DA INDOSSARE
ERA PER TE, SOLO PER TE
CHE MI SONO SALVATO E
SONO FIORITO, DA SOLO
PER SEMPRE, MA LASCIANDO
IL MIO CUORE CANTARE IL SUO CANTO!
When i feel sorry for myself for, you know, whatever, i remember how selfish i am
PASSERA UN ALTRO INVERNO
LONTANO DA CASA,
CAMMINANDO SU UN FIUME CHIAMATO
VITA HO ATTRAVERSATO TROPPI
CIELI ED ALBE DIVERSE
CHE I MIEI PIEDI HANNO SOLO IL SAPORE DI MORTE
NON TORNERO MAI PIU
QUESTO LO SO E TRA LE ONDE
RESTERA SOLO IL MIO RICORDO
QUANDO LA NOTTE AVRO BISOGNO
DI ESSERE CULLATO
EPPURE IL TEMPO PASSA
E LE RUGHE NEI MIEI OCCHI HANNO
SEMPRE LO STESSO SAPORE
EPPURE QUEI GIORNI MAI TROVANO
PACE A QUESTO PRESENTE CHE
MI SCIVOLA ADDOSSO, UOMO
TRA GLI UOMINI
DOLORE DENTRO DOLORE
Okay so... This song and "I'm On Fire" are two of Springsteen's tunes that really stick out to me. What else in this vein am I missing?
Brilliant Disguise
If you like this song, probably Youngstown
Check out the Nebraska album. It reminds me of the songs on this album.
This song is so relevant in these times

SuperMegaGalattica!!!! Thank's Bruce!!
If you ever sad, down and out read the Grapes of Wrath.
Homework: compare this song with Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow.
Una delle sue migliori di sempre!
The RATM cover adds a whole dimension to the song :D
Snekcharmer yeah but have you seen the time Bruce played it live with Morello live
Great full beyond measure.. to (The Bruce) first song I ever heard the term New World Order used in the RIGHT context. (Brother = Bruce Springsteen) To have Balls in the industry.. love to you and your lady.. Road trips.. unfortunate freedom. The screen door slams. Heartbreak everytime.
Que Does.. unfortunately where we are right.. I will go and play.. The rising. For peopl... Stay safe.
I've been once with Tom Joad and I got it that I was Tom Joad.
Bruce Springsteen’s greatest song. I Love it.
i'm alone in my labour situation
The definitive version.
I never liked Rage's take on it to be honest.
Here, the anger simmers just beneath the sadness on the surface.
Masterful.
Fave song of all time.
Quel Homme exceptionnel...

Bruce Springsteen is the blue-collar man’s portal into the music world. He has an incredibly familiar, rough quality to his voice that betrays a colorful and deep support for artistic brilliance

I hate the RATM version I think it's trash. This is by far the best version.
Rage against the machine brought me here
Love this and it is sadly very emblematic of these days.
Superbe!
underrated song.

All those people dying . . . along 'the way' . . . and Ma Joad the survivor. Serial killer.
I love this. Is it mixed poorly though? The harmonica is so loud I can’t bear it
The harmonica is louder than the words to make contrast,, same way with Nebraska
This is the kind of stuff I like from Bruce. Nebraska is my fave album from him. He's so good at creating a stark, haunting atmosphere.
Nice misfits pic dude
Magnífico,,,,,,the Boos
