Springsteen, Bruce - Rhinestone Cowboy Lyrics
I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks
Of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
Snowand the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train
That's takin' the longway
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked
Inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse ina star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
Like a rhinestone cowboy

Springsteen, Bruce Rhinestone Cowboy Comments
ma etsi opws megalonoume ki omorfa palionoume....how wonderfull loving you from our youth
I like Bruce’s music but this song is not for him.
When I was about eight years old, Glen Campbell released this song. One of my earliest memories is putting on a cowboy hat and strumming a toy guitar, singing "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy " to my Mother who was a huge Glen Campbell fan at the time.
Over the years, I have sung it to my Mother to get a laugh out of her. She never forgot my original rendition.
Fast forward 45 years to this week, I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and lost my Mother over a decade ago. I discover this cover the week of her birthday which has turned out to be a particularly difficult week for me as I am going through a divorce.
I am listing to all of the lyrics of this song for the first time in my life and it's like she is sending me a message from the other side. Amazing
A good country song is like an aphorism. Big wisdom of life in very compact form.
Awesome!!!
I love this now it's awesome to do Glen Campbells tribute Glen was a ledgendary Musician
Like Bruce strange hearing this cool deal Bruce
Cool cover by one of my favorite musicians. This old song still sounds great even in 2019/2020
Bruce Springsteen can't sing worth a damn.
Way to go Larry Weiss....great song, great rendition...by the great one...Bruce Springsteen. Does it get any better than that?
I remember listening to Glen Campbell sing this on pop country radio, and turning the dial to hear The Boss sing, “ Born To Run” ! Now it’s all in one!
Simply the best cover. Here's to the living legend, the Boss.
I was so lucky to be at the world premiere of this film. Growing up in the 60s, this song was a big favourite....when he started into it, I just lost it. Love you so much Bruce. <3
I think it was released in, 1975 not in the 60s
@Peter Williams Yes you're right about the date of this song. But I grew up in the 60s anyway....and listened to Glen
a LOT in the 60s.
I didn't realize Bruce was trying to emulate Glenn. He did it perfectly.
thank you for your music , for giving it to me , accompanying me all through my life
When I first heard about Western Stars they mentioned it was like Glen Campbell's music and when I first listened to the album I thought that it would have been great to cover one of his songs and after seeing the movie I was so happy that he covered this song. Awesome.\
Always loved this song and great to hear Bruce do it proud.
Is there a song out there the Boss can't make sound amazing!!
With his new album and this cover, The Boss has gone cowboy on us. ha ha.
Amazing
OH MY GOD !!!!!
Bruce picked up his guitar and said this is how it's meant to sound.
Kinda surreal listening to Bruce Springsteen covering Glenn Campbell. Boy he really jacks it up in the final 3rd of the song!
Wonderful songs😍
Great Boss!🎸👍

No. no, I prefer to wait for another record with E-Streeters. The rocking one. Bruce, you can! Pleeease...
Like a rhinestone cowboy great song great film I always remembered these people as the great actors they were.so much truth shame as it does not get in that song.these scenes are legendary I never forget that .An American truth about shine lies lives deaths and all the pitfalls that attraction of Glamour brings.to my heart a memory as still on DVD.memories are made of this.KARIN
👍👍😘😘❤❤💖❣👄🎵🎶🎙🎼🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

Why does my phone tell me that's this is Bruce Springsteer's channel !!!!
I love the arrangement of the orchestra, but honestly Bruce's voice sounds weak and tired. The powerful vocals we've always been accustomed to for decades are just not there anymore. I know he's 70, but still....
I sort of agree with you Scott.I am not sure if The Boss has heard over exposure. He needs to moderate his output, sorry Boss just saying
Would love to hear a stripped down version of this. Just Bruce, his voice and guitar.
Glen Campbell's version was much better in every way.
What a beautiful old school song brings back some beautiful memories thanks for sharing your music yours sincerely Gary
absolutely great trib to the great Glen Campbell! Good fit ! Thank you Bruce...perfect cover by a great artist ! .Did Jimmy Webb write this Glen gem also?
Nice cover of a classic!!!
How many 'big kids ' out there that first heard their Dads singing this ? Miss you , Dad ....
I like it......but my first thought was Johnny Cash doing a bunch of covers when he was winding down. Guess we're all getting old.
One cover following analbum of originals? Bruce has done covers from the beginning of his career in concert. From his interviews it sounds like he has a lot he wants to do and isn't close to slowing down. I don't think we need to worry yet.
The proper way for a rock star to age..what a beauty. Bruce has extraordinary wisdom and it shows even more as he hits 70 yrs old.
D C yes, he is aging well, keeping his creativity. I keep thinking of a line from Western Stars: “ Ride me down easy”
I say, “” with pleasure and gratitude “, as he rides us down easy, too.
I have heard better versions in a karaoke bar, how he has got as far as he has with a scruffy voice like that is beyond me
The BOSS
Great Boss!🎸👍

Loved the album and movie. But wished he had done Wichita Lineman instead.
Leftist Turncoat !
j aime !!!!!!
Great Boss!🎸👍

Um cota que eu adoro
Bruce, incrível!🎶🎸🎤👏🔝🔝
I just watched this movie Sunday and as a Bruce fan I didn't enjoy it as I thought I wish It reflected more on his life than his songs not that there's anything wrong with that I just wish it was more talking than singing
Its okay, but it aint the hoff.
10th time I listened now not far off of a perfect cover makes it sound his own in the context of the film
Every word of this song filled with life!Love it!
I have listened to really liked Bruce since early 70’s but I am not feeling this cover at all.No cars , no excitement..,. Sorry
thank you what ever song you do is great hope you come too ga. in 2020
love this version! Glen Campbell would be proud
think so !!! xD
Amazing!!!!!
Super, einfach nur super !!!!!!!
I couldn't believe it when I heard the melody as I watched Western Stars in the movie theater, I sang along like a ten-year-old! I was so happy and for the life of me couldn't remember the last time something touched me this much. That's what Bruce's music has done for me for the last 25 years.
Honestly, listening to this nearly brought tears to my eyes..I've been following Bruce's music for most of my life..And I was damn lucky to have it as company..Today I turn 50..I'm lucky enough to have a wife who loves me.And kids that turned out better than I deserve..Now I'm ready for the 3rd quarter of life..I hope Bruce's music has been good company for you as well..
Exact the same story for me, in south of France. That's the magic, he's all over the world, inspiring everyone.
Certainly has for 45 years
to all : PEOPLE HAS THE POWER !!!! :)
In "springsteen on broadway" bruce hopes to have been a good traveling companion ... You've been the best possible Bruce ... and I hope the way to go together is still long ...
@daniele tamburrino never ending, heartbreaking, hopegiving and shortdropping always BOSS !!!!
Fantastic song brings back some beautiful memories thanks for sharing your music yours sincerely Gary
Chills when Glenn Campbell sings this song.... Tears when Springsteen sings it
Love it!
Hm, this is the best song on the album, sad it is'nt Bruces, love his songs but in this genre... the melody is everything and I don't think his is strong enough this time around. But the film versions is the thing anyway.
Is this a different version to the one in the cinama?sounds completely different
@David B his vocals are for louder and the instruments are turned down
@dont why ask ?
@David B exactly
Next Cover should be „Gentle On My Mind“!
next cover should be Galveston
Cool cover, I just listened to Bruce and Jim Cuddy's version of the song. I didn't realize they recorded Rhinestone Cowboy within two weeks of each other.
This is one of my favourite song and moves that I grew up with
Great song by Glen Campbell he had many great ones thanks for sharing. LorraineG.
Show,👏👏 linda música 😙❤
❤❤ Bruce Always
Glen Cambell just rolled over in his grave, threw up and choked on his own vomit!!
Bruce should stick to doing Bruce and drop all the folk singing through your nose crap!
Lonewolf3165 bull crap Bruce brought this old country tune back to life . I can’t stop listening to it ! Glen Campbell would be honored I’m sure
great old song bruce is boss google riel boire for music
Would it be safe to say . Better than the original .I think so
Lo amo y siempre ame todas sus canciones. Cada dia canta mejor y su vos es maravillosa
A great track to end the film with.
Can't count how many times I've played this! Loooove it!!!!
Great cover by The Boss. Glen Campbell would be proud.
Et fantastisk nummer super super fedt
Glen is just beaming with smiles as he listens......
Nice! Such a unique version. So different but I really like it a lot 😊
The Boss
love also Glen !!! xD
@Anna Pohoryles greetings!
😍😍😍
Why does he sing "Swinging the same old songs"?!
It's a great cover of a great song. Here is another Bruce cover of it from the 80s, very very rare...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G--KmVw1IiQ
sempre grande il boss.
Loved GLENN 💚 MISS HIM😔
One of those iconic songs that should never be covered, but Bruce isn't called The Boss for nothing, what a cover, beautiful.
Oh yeah !!! agree and happy not be alone !!! and really greetings from Poland !!!
Although Glen Campbell's version was itself a cover.
@Jeff Featherstone really ? didn't know so thx and still admire Bruce - he takes me to haeven every sound he made !!!
He
Just
Never
Quits
!!!
Ennesima dimostrazione che Bruce è sempre a solo Bruce
the orchestra is too loud and shrill and brucie’s voice is buried. also his singing is rather tired. a positive is its nice he kept the cheese with ROW dee oh.
I hope he plays this on the upcoming tour. What a great tribute to Glen and a fun sing-a-long song!
He ain't called " The Boss " for nothing, great cover thanks Bruce!!
Hmmmm. I really like Springsteen. I really want to like this. But its really just karaoke. It doesn't discover new ground.
Keith N. Smith Listen to the arrangement on this (which is all live) and compare it to the original and to the other Western Stars tracks. If it differed too much from the original it wouldn’t be true to the spirit of the album. I think it’s excellent.
@Gary Hudson I'm glad you like it. I don't dislike it - perhaps I'm spoiled by Springsteen's past covers.
For example, his cover of "Erie Canal" truly was unique & magic and all his own. This one just doesn't reach that bar.
Happy Day...
5th time in a row playing this!.My wife and kiddies will be hearing this in their dreams tonight..And I wouldnt have it any other way!...
One of my all time favorite songs I think Glen would be happy.
Una vez más : la voz de Bruce es buenísima, acomodable a cualquier tema, increíble en cualquier canción a cualquier, siempre, buena letra y música
Gracias, agradezco mucho vuestras respuestas aunque no siempre tengo tiempo para contestar.
Country Bruce. Love it 😍
This is so, so good. Thank you, Bruce!
BRUCE! GLEN!!
Facebook.com/groups/glencampbell
Love that you sang this song! Love everything you do Bruce 😍
Finally Bruce got the country music c.d finished...What it take 10+ years?
Basically. While working on it, he wrote "Easy Money" for it and that led to the WRECKING BALL album.
At least we got the masterpiece of Wrecking ball
It sounds like a Bruce song!
The great ones take a song and make it their own.
That is great and a true hommage to Glen’s original, thans Bruce.
RJY van der Werf I feel he could have just as well covered Glen’s “ Dreams of the Everyday Housewife”, if it fit the theme of the album.
