Springsteen, Bruce - Loose Ends Lyrics

We met out on open streets when we had no place to go
I remember how my heart beat when you said I love you so
Then little by little we choked out all the life that our love could hold
Oh no

It's like we had a noose and baby without check
We pulled until it grew tighter around our necks
Each one waiting for the other, darlin', to say when
Well baby you can meet me tonight on the loose end

We didn't count tomorrows, we took what we could and baby we ran
There was no time for sorrow, every place we went I held your hand
And when the night closed in I was sure your kisses told me all I had to know
But oh no

It's like we had a noose and baby without check
We pulled until it grew tighter around our necks
Each one waiting for the other, darlin', to say when
Well baby you can meet me tonight on the loose end

Our love has fallen around us like we said it never could
We saw it happen to all the others but to us it never would
Well how could something so bad, darling, come from something that was so good
I don't know

It's like we had a noose and baby without check
We pulled until it grew tighter around our necks
Each one waiting for the other, darlin', to say when
Well baby you can meet me tonight on the loose end

I think the xylaphone chimes give this song a Christmas vibe, though it's got nothing to do with Jesus's birth 😂

    very good song/buenisima canxión

  14. G.... ....

It speaks volumes of the chapters of love and the tests of unity and the fabric of love’s realm

Más bien "loose ends" se puede traducir como "el lado del perdedor"

    S.... 1....

No, estás totalmente equivocado. "Loose end" cuándo estás hablando de una cuerda/soga (como habla la canción) se refiere al extremo de la soga que no está atada, que está suelta. Una traducción correcta sería de loose ends sería "cabos sueltos".

  19. M.... W....

I like how his singing tempo changes each line of the lyrics slow-fast-slow

  20. J.... B....

How the fuck does this guy leave gems like this one just lying around in the vault for nearly twenty years?! Clarence, Garry and Danny really shine on this track...this should have been the second single off of The River album instead of "Fade Away."

    J.... B....

According to things he's said in interviews, it's because he's more interested in putting together an album that hangs together well thematically than in putting out just an assortment of songs.

As a fan of "concept albums," I fully support that notion, but then I hear gems like this one which clearly didn't fit the concept of what The River became...and I wonder "why did he think that didn't fit?" But maybe it's not about whether or not this song fit so much as the fact that the songs that made the final cut just fit better and they ran out of room.

I think I'd be disappointed if I'd found out that songs like "Sherry Darling" or "Stolen Car" or "Independence Day" or "The Ties That Bind" had been dropped instead of this one, though.

    J.... B....

Sean Ellis except he didnt go far enough. the river should have been a triple album like sandinista! which came out almost the same time. or 4 quick single albums. instead, after the epic river tour he shoveled all this rock pop music he wrote away for awhile and went with nebraska, the hipster-favorite d.i.y. acoustic album.

    J.... B....

Sean Ellis Agreed, but the songs you just listed are among the best on the record. I honestly think the album would have benefited from throwing out some of the filler, like "Crush on You" or "I'm a Rocker," in favor of say, "Loose Ends" and "Take 'Em as They Come."

    J.... B....

Angus Mac, I know it was originally the going to be on the single album version...it should have still been a single on the double album version. Come on...this is a much better song than "Hungry Heart" (very catchy, I'm not trying to trash it) or "Fade Away." Bruce should have put this song out in 1980...it would have been huge.

    J.... B....

Josh Bricker This and “Be True” are my favorite Springsteen songs. Just kill me every time.

One of Clarence's finest moments. And it never officially saw the light of day. Fuck you, Bruce!
I notice "Loose Ends" has found its way into the live set last couple years. Great one to have in the set when you're breaking in a new sax player, I guess!

    T.... B....

It was released on Tracks in 1998

    T.... B....

@rockaround71 Yeah, "Tracks" is a compilation of 'previously unreleased', though.

Recorded in 1979 for "The River", but wasn't included on the album. Was eventually released on the album "Tracks" in 1998.

  29. t.... ....

how this track was left out on any album ?

    t.... ....

It's on the "Tracks" cd box set.

    t.... ....

@ Comrade ... It really doesn't. Listen to the lyrics ...

    t.... ....

@jeanie viola It doesn't discuss suicide, but it does have a dark undertone that could reference emotional suicide, from both parties, male and female

    t.... ....

    @Dick Head yea, that's true.

    t.... ....

Some of the lyrics in this were used in his song point blank.
