Springsteen, Bruce - Kitty's Back Lyrics

Catlong sighs, holdin' Kitty's black tooth
She left to marry some top cat, ain't it the cold truth?
And there hasn't been a tally since Sally left the alley
Since Sally left with Big Pretty, things have got pretty thin
It's tight on this fence since them young dudes are musclin' in

Jack Knife cries 'cause Baby's in a bundle
She goes runnin' nightly, lightly through the jungle
And them tin cans are explodin' out of the 90-degree heat
Cat somehow lost his baby down on Bleecker Street
It's sad but it sure is true
Cat shrugs his shoulders, sits back and sighs

Catlong lies back-bent on a trash can
Flashin' lights that cut the night, dude in the white says he's the man
Well, you better move fast when you're young, or you're not around
Cat somehow lost his Kitty in the city pound
So get right, get tight, get down
Who's that down at the end of the alley? She's been gone so long
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes

Kitty's back in town, here she comes now
Kitty's back in town
Cat knows Kitty's been untrue and that she left him for a city dude
Well, she's so soft, she's so blue
When he looks into her eyes, he just sits back and sighs
Ooh, what can I do, ooh, what can I do?
Ooh, what can I do, ooh, what can I do? Alright
Ooh alright, ooh alright
Ooh alright, ooh alright

Springsteen, Bruce Kitty's Back Comments
  1. C.... C....

Davis Sancious' organ solo is worthy of Booker T. Lopez was a better drummer than Max Weinberg, at least for Springsteen. One of my Top 20 all-time records.

  2. L.... G....

This is my favorite Bruce Springsteen song

  3. N.... I....

If anyone makes a movie where a woman makes a badass entrance in slow-mo....

One of the most amazing songs LIVE!!! Gives me goosebumps... <3

  10. M.... T....

Vini could swing. I’ve always preferred his drumming style to Max’s. How can you not like the drums on this track?? This song (I love the keyboards, too!) never gets old for me.

    M.... T....

    Bruce fired him.

    M.... T....

Max plays drums like Ringo Starr....shit.

    M.... T....

    Bruce didn't want any competition.

  11. s.... ....

This just came on morning radio. I'd completely forgotten what an incredibly wicked blazing piece of music- actually almost too Intense.

  13. n.... ....

    Incredible album !

  14. C.... N....

My favorite Springsteen track! Been listening to it for 45 years!

  15. P.... ....

Back in '76 someone played this for me to show how Thin Lizzy stole "The Boys Are Back In Town." Yeah, Thin Lizzy were thieves, but so what? Both songs are great. This one is better, though.

    P.... ....

Kittys back in town - The boys are back in town again. Do you not think that could be a coincidence? Most say that line was something Phils mom told him about the quality street gang. True or not, do you really think thin lizzy needed this song to come up with that line, or even remotely thought of this song when recording a song they never planned on releasing? Give me a break thats ridiculous.

    P.... ....

@Joey Joe Yes, & Bruce was clearly listening to Van...everything that goes around...

  22. T.... 8....

    D A M N ! ! !

  23. M.... A....

This song really knows how to do a funky soulful drive, sounds kinda like an epic blues tune the Blues Bros. would've done a cover of back in the day

  24. R.... F....

Cat shrugs his shoulders..shes back inside!

  25. n.... ....

It just doesn't get better than that.

  26. M.... H....

  27. K.... P....

Had to look this up because Deep Tracks skipped again. Not bad.

  28. R.... T....

    That intro...

  29. M.... S....

in the description I see the producers, background singers, percussionists and others. that's all good to know. I think I would've included Bruce Springsteen, tho. Even if everyone knows he is lead vocals and lead guitar on this song. I still would've inclusive him. I mean... didn't he write it?

  30. M.... V....

    Lookout!  She's back.

  31. R.... F....

    you go places ....

  32. R.... B....

I saw him open for Chicago in Syracuse summer of 72 and tho a Chicago fan, thought it iffy as to whether or not he outshone them

  33. B.... M....

David  Sanscious certainly added to his sound. Where is he now?

    B.... M....

Check out Sting's genius work, "10 Sumner's Tales"....Sanscious tears up the keys n that LP.

    B.... M....

I saw David Sancious playing in Claptons band a few years ago. Guitar and keyboards. Talented guy who left Bruce to pursue the Jazz Rock Fusion thing. He's all over the Stanley Clarke "Journey to Love" album. He also had his own Fusion Trio called "Tone." Like someone else said, David played with Sting, and does other stuff.

    B.... M....

Barry Mcconnell I saw David up in Woodstock NY playing with Jack Dejohnette at a drum festival. Nice guy.

    B.... M....

Well he's back now with his work on Western Stars

  34. B.... M....

The one good thing he did

    B.... M....

I'm sorry you feel that way

    B.... M....

    Just one? Ouch

    B.... M....

    Barry Mcconnell...You're not sincere !

    B.... M....

It's two years later. Are you still a dumbass?

  37. A.... S....

“Without Van, there is no...jazz soul of ‘Kitty’s Back’." -Bruce Springsteen, as quoted in his 2016 autobiography, BORN TO RUN. I can definitely hear some "Moondance" in "Kitty's Back". Both tunes are in my top whatever.

    A.... S....

Acoustic Shadow Morrison was a big influence for the boss

    A.... S....

I don't remember reading that quote in, "Born to Run" Autobiography of Bruce. Do you have a page number? I'm sure you are correct, just would like to read it myself.

  38. D.... L....

I used to tell my friends this guy is gonna b the best..... 1972... I was a big deal if ya heard him on the radio.....

  40. D.... A....

I first heard this on an FM station in Houston in the summer of '73, No one had even heard of Bruce Springsteen. I knew from that point he would take off - eventually. Actually, it took several years to get widely known.

    D.... A....

Dale Andrews I said the same thing in 72-73 wasn't till after Born to run 75.. he went big time... nobody knew him 72-75 & a lot People didn't like him..

    D.... A....

The very first Bruce Springsteen song I ever heard was Thunder Road. It was at a concert. Tickets were $2. That's how unknown he was. The following week he was on the covers of Newsweek and Time magazines (Look it up).

  41. W.... ....

    My absolute favorite Bruce tune

    W.... ....

Wickedashtray Was never a Bruce fan, grew up in NJ (Cherry Hill) and thought he was crap. Then, I was driving a truck one day in Tom's River in1990 and this
