Springsteen, Bruce - Dead Man Walkin' Lyrics

There's a pale horse comin'
And I'm gonna ride it
I'll rise in the morning
My fate decided it
I'm a dead man walkin'
I'm a dead man walkin'

In Saint James Parish
I was born and Christened
Now I've got my story
Mister, ain't no need for you to listen
It's just a dead man talkin'

Once I had a job, I had a girl
Between our dreams and actions lies this world

Hey in the deep forest
Their blood and tears rushed over me
All I could feel was the drugs and the shotgun
And my fear up inside me
Like a dead man talkin'

'Neath the summer sky my eyes went black
Sister I won't ask for forgiveness, my sins are all I have

Now the clouds above my prison
Move slowly 'cross the sky
There's a new day comin'
And my dreams are full tonight

you never did any "walkin" in Southeast Asia since you dodged the draft while your friends fought and died....

    R.... J....

    Robert James Chinnery:
If the man himself was answering you he would be saying this - he would say that some people are not wired up to be soldiers, to be fighters, killers etc. And to men like this, going to war would be unnatural to them and everything they believe in. Not all men can suddenly become killers just because someone else wants them to be, or pushes/forces it onto them. Some men have a strong mind and will of their own - of who they themselves want to be. Though it was very sad & unfortunate regarding all those lives that were lost. But HE was not to blame for that, but more the fault of the higher power that sent & forced them out there. They were the victims of that higher power - not of HIM. I rest my case.

  24. M.... L....

Una de las genialidades de El Jefe...

  25. B.... M....

And thats why he is the BOSS

  26. J.... D....

This song dares you to empathise with the abuser, the rapist, the murderer, alongside the abused, the raped, the murdered.

Why should we? Doesn't that go against all decency? A good question... perhaps because if we don't, then we have only law, and no grace. No forgiveness, only condemnation.

My instinct when I hear abuse is to condemn. But a famous man in a famous book might have said it well - "judge not, or you too will be judged".

I can only try and do as Sister Prejean set the example to do and still does, as of this writing: empathise with both sides, for the betterment hopefully of everyone.

  27. J.... W....

you're important for us, bruce springsteen. thank you always.

    K.... J....

Yeah he doesn't pay much tax on his massive properties....and he was a draft dodger during N'am

    K.... J....

    @Robert James Chinnery
So, if someone isn't into fighting & killing then they get flack for it. Some people are just more peaceful........ or musical.

    K.... J....

@BigCityJungleCat EnvisageThat I don't give a shit about any of that crap. Springsteen is writing some hymn about two total scumbags. Absolute scumbags: Elmo Patrick Sonnier and Robert Lee Willie who raped and murdered teenagers and I got some rock star singing, "Mohhh on down to po ole me in New Awlins. A poor mahn's dreams." I'd pull the switch myself and not lose a minute of sleep

  46. N.... M....

great song for a great hard movie from excellent Tim Robbins and genius Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn

  47. D.... F....

But Sean Penn was involved but he didn't support shooting the victim as we see in the forest... Is this okay?

    D.... F....

no he killed the boy and rapped the girl, this is the plot twist

I'm from belgium(I normally speak french and dutch) and I learned english thanks to his great poems ( songs); "jungeland", "my father's house", "indepedence day", "the river"etc, etc...My english teatcher didn't understand how I sometimes used some (american) words and that I also found mistakes in her own sentences, I have to thank Bruce for that, and other greats songswritters like Linsdey Buckigham ( FM), dire straits, and a of course Aimée Mann!!!
