Springfield, Dusty - Can I Get A Witness Lyrics

Ah, listen everybody
Especially you guys
Is it right to be left alone
When the one you love is never home?
I love too hard
Yeah, my friends sometimes say
But I believe, oh I believe
That a boy should be loved that way
But it hurts me so inside
See him treat me so unkind
A-somebody, a-somewhere
Tell him it ain't fair

Can I get a witness?
Can I get a witness?
Can I get a witness?
Somebody?

Is it right to be treated so bad?
When you've given everything you had
Keep on tossing in my sleep
'Cause I haven't seen my baby all week
Now, you people you do agree
That this ain't the way love's supposed to be
A-let me hear you
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Up early in the morning
With him on my mind
Just to find out all night
That I've been crying
But I believe, oh, that a boy is a girl's best friend
So, I'm gonna stick by him 'til the very end
But he caused so much misery
I forget how love's supposed to be
Somebody, somewhere tell him
It ain't fair

Can I get a witness?
Can I get a witness?
I want a witness
Witness, witness, witness, witness

Everybody knows, especially you boys
That a love can be sad
But half a love is twice as bad
Now you people you do agree
That this ain't the way love's supposed to be
Let me hear you
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah

I want a witness
Can I get a witness?
I want a witness
Come on, witness
I want a witness, hey
Come on, witness
I want a witness

Springfield, Dusty Can I Get A Witness Comments
  1. D.... B....

how cool .. loving the crowd

  2. R.... H....

I love Marvin Gaye, but this version by Dusty is the best. True blue eyed soul.

  3. j.... a....

This is hands down the best youtube video for when you're feeling like shit. The terrible dancing, the out of sync miming, the outfits, Dusty looking like an excitable librarian and that insanely powerful voice running through the whole thing.

  4. j.... e....

she could sing a menu and give it soul

  5. C.... T....

    MAGIC from DUSTY ............. ❤️

  6. P.... F....

    She's on FIRE!

  7. K.... ....

The crowd in Marvin Gaye's version seem to be partying harder. Maybe because these guys are Brits? 😁

  8. B.... B....

Brilliant footage of an adored icon! She gave all in her performances! you know what else I loved about her? she dressed like no one else - wholesome, even when she wore beads and sequins. a little bit nerdy. and then the bouffant 'do's' - i loved her style - it was like no other - she was unique in every way.

  9. M.... ....

The Rolling Stones brought me here, now i've got a witness

  10. A.... L....

Dusty Amy Kiki my best three Brit girls

Sound that can shake you out of your bed. Happily.

  12. M.... M....

    When being American was cool

  13. W.... C....

    Hallelujah! 🙋🏽🙋🏽🙋🏽 That's a VOICE!

  14. J.... P....

Brilliant, raucous, uncomparable. Dusty really gets into this song. Surely the best british female singer ever !

  15. l.... r....

Dusty looked like she was having such a great time dancing around doing this lip sync. She was enjoying the reaction of the audience to her. She got a lot of them fired up alright. So nice to see her getting such a kick out of it. What a robust vocal she laid down here. The early days.

    l.... r....

She wasn't lip syncing, she was live singing to a recorded backing. Common practice in back in the day and obviously different from the released singles.

    l.... r....

She doesn't have a microphone and sometimes her lips aren't moving yet she is singing. An obvious lip sync. But I do know that there were cases when she did sing live to recorded backing tracks, I like that better. She did that with "I Only Want To Be With You." I still like this regardless, her boundless energy.
The good old days, she was having a fantastic time. But the vocal was pre-recorded. They did that too sometimes on t.v. shows back in the day.

  16. l.... r....

Dusty selling the hell out of this mediocre song. Terrific energy she's dishing out here. The kids in the audience ate it up.
She appeared to be having a wonderful time doing this performance.

    l.... r....

Mediocre song? You must be pulling our legs. I'll assume you haven't heard the Marvin Gaye version of this song.

  30. p.... j....

    very good old video

  31. S.... ....

Dusty knew a good song!  She's pumped!!

  32. y.... ....

Yet another pointless mime job...would haveloved to have heard this done live.

    y.... ....

+SIMON Gill RSG was not BBC - Associated Rediffusion (ITV)

    y.... ....

+yardbirdmackay  they weren't allowed to sing live

    y.... ....

Think they made 'em all mime as sound quality was so terrible back in those days. The microphones and the entire audio systems were so lame. They'd rather have the record playing as better sound quality. I'm with you, nothing like a live vocal.

    y.... ....

Very few acts performed live on television during this era.

    y.... ....

Yes they all mimed back then. It was getting the right sound. A wonderful performance.

  33. M.... R....

    holy freaking wow

  34. b.... ....

dusty should have been on motown......fact

  35. l.... ....

She kicked the Door Open for Every British Blue Eyed Soul Singer from Amy Winehouse (RiP), Duffy, Joss Stone, Jessie J., Lisa Stansfield, and of course Adele.

  36. e.... j....

On top of all that vocal magic, she was quite a dancer too ! R.I.P. Dusty.

  37. m.... t....

    She was wonderful

  38. S.... ....

    Why is this only 2:39??

    S.... ....

Most songs during the 1950s and 1960s lasted only that long.  45 RPM records  were ideal for this amount of singing/performing time.  Also, during this time period, record companies and music artists were focused on selling singles, which provided the most money for everyone involved.  If a music artist had two or three hit singles, the record label would then release an LP/album of music made during the recording session.  Occasionally, a music artist sometimes had to go back into the recording studio to record more songs, because he/she/they did not anticipate such musical success.

  39. x.... ....

she certainly does - beautiful voice on a beautiful woman!

  40. s.... ....

    fantastic , sounds wonderful

  41. x.... ....

    yes, she is.

  42. H.... ....

Jaw dropping stuff, and gives it that extra oomph compared to the original.

  43. G.... ....

Nailed. One of the few times a cover surpasses the original. Were those drunks on stage listening to the same song?

  44. T.... K....

    @carolinaguy1973

  46. K.... M....

@carolinaguy1973 if she was black you wouldn't be talking right now.. trying to sound intellectual and its coming off as predjudice, what are you trying to say really? because she's not african american she doesn't pull it off? not"deep gospel" so she doesn't believe in God? there's some bullshit on your lips do you need a napkin? GET A GRIP and just so we all get it.. YOU COULD NEVER TOUCH HER ABILITY... STOP HATING .. BESIDES she's famous.. you're a famous dumbass do you know what i mean?????

  47. K.... M....

dear "super" nothin... if she was black you wouldn't be talking right now... all your b.s. is just you trying to sound intellectual and its coming off as predjudice.. what are you trying to say really? because she's not african american she doesn't pull it off... ?? she's not "deep gospel" enough... what? she doesn't believe in God now??? GET A GRIP and frankly you could never pull it off EVER!!! stop hating

  48. S.... G....

no, i dont know what delta gospel is, I know what gospel is, maybe its the same thing, i dont know. But in my simplistic view, soul means singing from the soul, which means its not just about the technical ability of the vocals, but the singers ability to make you "feel" the music dusty had a great voice, but people feel the songs.

  49. S.... G....

    @carolinaguy1973
That is a weird statement to make, can you not just enjoy the music without trying to intellectualise it?

  50. p.... j....

    i sure due miss dusty.

  51. a.... ....

I died, went to heaven, and Dusty was singing Motown!

  57. S.... ....

Nice! We could've never seen a performance like this in the racist America of the early 60's.

I can only imagine the concerts off camera... must've been something special.

  58. c.... ....

She's just so damned great!!!! WOW!!!! She don't quit. The real deal!!!

  59. H.... ....

Marvin Gaye's jaw must have dropped when he saw this.

  60. p.... ....

kudos to Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

  61. b.... ....

love motown..prefer dustys covers to most of the originals...

  62. h.... ....

What a talent! And check out the guy on the right in the group dancing1

  63. M.... M....

    She's better than Marvin Gaye!

  64. w.... ....

We can be eternally grateful that the magnificent Dusty had one flaw - she couldn't mime for toffee! She was clearly more comfortable with singing live, and the result is a whole library - mainly thanks to gferdinandus - of jaw-dropping talent. Her live version of "I don't want to go on without you" has got to be right up there as possibly the best live pop performance ever, don'tcha think?

    w.... ....

westview80 I think it was difficult for her to mime because she was so into the moment full of emotions! Great singer!

  65. a.... ....

    She's like a female Joe Cocker...So Soulful.

  66. d.... ....

Looks like she's having a load of fun there!

  67. b.... ....

Celebrate her birthday every 16th of April.
