Springfield, Dusty - Anyone Who Had A Heart Lyrics

Anyone who ever loved
Could look at me
And know that I love you
Anyone who ever dreamed
Could look at me
And know I dream of you

Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me, too
You couldn't really have a heart
And hurt me like you hurt me
And be so untrue
What am I to do?

Every time you go away
I always say
"This time it's goodbye, dear"
Loving you the way I do
I take you back
Without you I'd die, dear

Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me, too
You couldn't really have a heart
And hurt me like you hurt me
And be so untrue
What am I to do?

Knowing I love you so
Anyone who had a heart
Would take me in his arms and love me, too
You couldn't really have a heart
And hurt me like you hurt me
And be so untrue
Anyone who had a heart would love me, too
Anyone who had a heart
Would surely take me in his arms and always love me
Why won't you, yeah
Anyone who had a heart would love me, too, yeah
Anyone who had a heart
Would surely take me in his arms and always love me
Why won't you, yeah

Springfield, Dusty Anyone Who Had A Heart Comments
  1. C.... A....

  3. G.... A....

    Sing it baby sing it

  4. M.... B....

Big fan of Dusty but prefer Linda Ronstadts and Dionne version better.

  5. J.... C....

Dusty. You nailed it. No disrespect to Dionne or Cilla. Greatest ever white soul singer.

  6. R.... S....

Can't hear this tune without thinking of the dispute between Dionne Warwick and Cilla Black Dionne I love your version better but those records are both very different!!

  7. J.... T....

this song brings tears, but i love it.

  8. B.... H....

Anyone know who played the Alto sax break on this?

  9. A.... T....

I really like this orchestration better than Cilla's although I am a big Cilla fan. This one is simply more dramatic and changing the bassoon for a sax was an improvement. So is percussion.

  10. T.... S....

Dusty and Linda Ronstadt’s version are the best.

  11. A.... S....

Dusty and Luther are my favorites for this song. Both gave their identity.

  12. t.... k....

The back up singers are also amazing! Dusty is very very special! I love her!!!

  13. D.... ....

I like her version best. It is quite underrated compared to the Dionne and Cilla versions.

    D.... ....

deservedly so Cilla was the best.

  14. P.... N....

    my favorite artist

  15. A.... B....

    Best song ever

  16. J.... M....

How blessed we are to be arguing over who is better Dusty or Dionne. And hello...Burt Bacharach!

    J.... M....

Jake Miller Love both versions but Springfield's voice is softer, sharper, and stronger on here

  17. M.... S....

Burt Bacharach pocked this song for Kelly Clarkson to sing on American Idol, but she changed it to “Walk on By”. Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force, amazing

  18. G.... D....

    One of the better versions

  19. R.... W....

I like also the version of Peter Kingsberry (Cock Robin) https://mytaratata.com/taratata/2/peter-kingsberry-anyone-who-had-a-heart-1993

  20. V.... A....

    Perfect

  21. N.... S....

My first time hearing this version and I love it

  22. S.... S....

I very much enjoyed Dusty's version but Dionne Warwick's is by far the Best !!

  23. R.... A....

    Hermosa voz hermosa cancion

  24. J.... D....

The instrumentation, arrangement and mix don't do her justice.

  25. b.... 0....

The best version there is hands down.

  26. T.... C....

  27. s.... ....

This kind of reminds me of Friday’s child by Nancy Sinatra

  28. R.... M....

I like all the recorded versions of this song but Luther Vandross made this into a completely new hit.

  29. p.... ....

I won't even listen to the other versions. No need, Dusty nails this song for me. Fabulous!

    p.... ....

Agreed, no one can hit the notes like Dusty.

    p.... ....

it's ok, but they did a good job too....sometimes we do like a specific  version..I can't image anyone expressing  a better feel sound to Mr.Postman then the Marvalletts...

    p.... ....

@Kevin Folsom I would like you to see the Letterman show performance by Linda Ronstadt. Some hellacious notes hit therein.

    p.... ....

    try Cilla much better.

  30. P.... C....

    Good song

  31. C.... S....

    #Siren brought me here!!!

  32. C.... C....

favorite version. This is the only version I would listen to. I remember listening to it in class while doing an online assignment and just listening to threw me completely off I just had to stop and listen to the song as I felt like being heaven. Her voice is amazing

  33. B.... H....

I love this song and have always loved listening to Dusty Springfield.

  34. c.... g....

  35. H.... H....

Who is here because of the Siren trailer lol

  36. A.... H....

Comparing three versions: Cilla Black, Sandy Shaw and Dusty Springfield. I think Dusty is best. But really loved the Sandy versions too.

  37. m.... ....

Allways thought CILLAS was the best ...until I heard DUSTY sing this

    m.... ....

    mikkie444
Nope it's Dionne Warwick the best .

  38. D.... W....

    Dionne's instrumentals killed it

  39. T.... R....

Songs of my youth. Dusty was my favorite singer of that era. We were all in love with her.

  40. T.... L....

    BEAUTIFUL..! : ) <3

  41. L.... R....

Dusty was offered the song first and turned it down. Luckily she revisited that decision and decided to record it after Cilla and Dionne had hits with it. Not released as a single. My favorite version of the song, due to Dusty's emotional vocal. Dionne / Cilla great versions also.

  42. T.... M....

I was 3 in '64, Dusty was played all the time in our house, I was obsessed with this song, mom liked it and played it alot, glorious! still rocks my world...Dusty is really something special.

  43. K.... P....

    Cilla Black is more Better.

  44. W.... R....

Could listen to Dusty singing this song over and over again, What an outstanding talent who is sadly missed

  45. W.... R....

Luther vandross version is the best out of everyone that has done this song period!!!

    W.... R....

+William Ray Luther is a better singer, but the pain is so raw in Dusty's version!

    W.... R....

Kevin Thomas yeah you gotta give props to the origanals "but luther vandross took that song down thu there...

  46. m.... ....

Knocks spots of Cilla Black's version. Black sounded like a fog horn. Dusty is pure vocal bliss.

    m.... ....

The best rendition of this song.

  47. t.... ....

This is my favorite female version of this song. I don't really care much for this song. It's just too grandiose for my taste. I like how Dusty holds back vocally during the chorus, while Cilla Black and Dionne Warwick chose to amp it up. The song is grandiose and melodramatic enough on it's own. The singer doesn't need to belt it out at the top of his or her lungs. My favorite version of this song is definitely Tim Curry's version. I actually think it suits a deep male voice a bit better. His is on YouTube also. Tim and Dusty sing it in a way thay actually makes me think this song is somewhat pretty. And that's really saying something, because I don't like it.

    t.... ....

yep just too loud backing on dustys

    t.... ....

+tygersflowerz I agree. I like hearing the minor laden melody coming from the lower register. Tim Curry and Dusty give it the sad, brooding, even haunting feel. Luther Vandross gave my favorite rendition. Slowed it down to a crawl and added the jazzy riffs. The most unique version to date.

    t.... ....

then you haven't heard linda ronstandt's version, not putting down the others but she puts right where it's supposed to be...

    t.... ....

how can you not care for the drama of this tune....

    t.... ....

First time hearing this version and it's really beautiful. Tim Curry's is great too. I have his on my phone.

  48. a.... ....

This is a lovely version, first time I've ever heard it.

  49. f.... g....

What about linda on leno's show?

  50. d.... ....

    Priest '94

  51. f.... ....

Personally I like BOTH Cilla Black's version and this one.   They are just different.

Not sure the saxaphone works though

  52. N.... ....

Dusty was the best hands down!

    N.... ....

    best version

    N.... ....

False... 1 Cilia Black, 2. Dionne Warwick, 3 Sheridan Smith

  53. F.... ....

Another great version of a great TUNE.

  54. b.... f....

Just bueatiful and graceful her and her voice, omg if only we could embrace something in 2014 so outstanding like this voice!!!!:)

  55. G.... C....

That's strange, they had both women sing the same song, the same year, just about the same arrangement.  Why do you think one took off and the other didn't?

    G.... C....

Dionne cuts the original and most of the demos by Bacharach as well even before she was famous...it was her 2nd hit single in the US, Dusty's version was on her 1st album, but she never release it as a single. Cilla Black's version was a UK #1 hit in 1964, but her version is not well known outside uk. Back in those days it was very commom multiple artists recording the same song about the same time, a time when still the majority of them were singers, not writers.

    G.... C....

@Gail Clarke Very interesting question. Listening to Dionne's and Cilla's versions today, it occurs to me Dionne's had a warmth and depth that touched the orchestration. Some of her chords are elegantly formed. Cilla's strikes me a heart rending, again a beautiful record that expresses what the listener is secretly thinking. Dusty's version is close to Dionne's, but hasn't got the developed orchestra holding up her voice. It's gorgeous, just lacking some little nuance.

    G.... C....

I just listened to Dusty's version again and her back ground singers were just a tad too loud.  They made it hard to hear the singers voice.

    G.... C....

Dusty was offered the song first. She turned it down and lived to regret that decision. By the time she recorded it later the same year, Cilla and Dionne already had hits with it. She only recorded it in mono on a four track. Later, they mixed it to stereo for 1997 cd release but according to Paul Howe's Dusty book, it had an alternate vocal on it.

  56. K.... ....

    Beautiful!

  57. A.... F....

There will never ever be any one like her again

  58. j.... ....

This is just as good as Dionne's version hands down. Just to hear the first 2 or 3 words and you knew it was Dusty. So great soulful here voice.

  59. K.... A....

Dusty did loads of Bacharach songs she was one of his favourite singers.

  60. J.... L....

Dusty did a few Burt Bacharach songs such as this one.

  61. C.... B....

One of her best songs, wonderful! Thank you for post!
