Spock's Beard - Tides Of Time Lyrics

Tell me how to begin
To pay you back for all your sins
Blindsided by the truth
You cannot hide, I cannot win
Accept your settled fate
To you, I'm an outcast... a renegade
But it's far, far down the well to fall
And you haven't seen the worst of it yet
You did it once and that's enough
I couldn't see to call your bluff
And your plans have all unraveled now
I guess that's how it goes
As the darkness creeps into the light
It gets much harder to tell wrong from right
I can't see anymore...

Another slave to circumstance
You sail the tides of time
No longer in your grasp
You're tethered to the line
You thought you'd know by now
But know it you do not
That it's a hardcore cross to bear
When pain is all you've got

And when I finally looked inside of me
I didn't find the man I thought I'd be
Now there's nowhere to hide
From the truth of it all
Another charge into the great unknown
And I hope I can find my way home...

I alone have borne the sacrifice
Set upon to pay the highest price
For a life of misery and pain
Lay it out for everyone to see
Couldn't be worse than what you did to me
There's no one at the wheel
And now we're off the tracks

Very classic Kansas inspired. Great song, very good vocals. Music is very 1970's prog., that is meant as a compliment!! Fantastic job!!

  2. G.... S....

Sounds like many Neal Morse songs up til the vocals start.

  3. R.... C....

Awesome! Iwas Listening this song and thinking: Hey, we got a little bit of Yes... hummmm, greta! WOW, Genesis! ..... Hey... this sounds like Rush... How can be more incredible? Kudos!

    R.... C....

    I heard Kansas also!!

  4. P.... ....

That moment when Neal Morse's style is so repetitive that you recognise him from the first 10 seconds of music.
Not dissing Neal, he's a great composer and I'd never do better, but it "gets old" quick...

    P.... ....

Neal is not on this record. His style is however, distinctive.

  5. s.... ....

    Sounds very 1972 genesis

    s.... ....

Why 1972? Rather with Phil Collins in the early 80's years.

@lesclaypool0727 Exactly haha Style of singing kinda reminds me of Phil Collins :)

    @Daniel Tendel ?!?!?! i Don't know what you mean.

  9. S.... ....

    7:28 - nice chord!

  10. J.... P....

Love the song. the intro riff reminds me of "our song" from yes.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. When Stan first sent us this song, my first thoughts were that it sounded like it was seasoned with a handful of other songs but yet it doesn't really sound like any of them. Just little hints suggesting maybe Stan was listening to certain things while he wrote it. I don't know if it's true but it sounds that way. It was a rather tough song to record. There are long stretches where times signatures go back and forth. It took a while to get used to it and then find a way to make it groove and feel somewhat normal ... as Prog goes. The bridge is very challenging to play and sing.
