Split Enz - Jamboree Lyrics

Roll up, roll up to the Jamboree
Roll up, roll up to the Jamboree

Roll up, roll up, troupers Jamboree
Old friends attend, long time no see
Roll up, roll up, troupers come on down
Big top, non stop, annual reunion

I know what you're thinking, I know what you'll say
But I gotta getta be, at the troupers Jamboree
There's safety in numbers, I'll never forget
40 years ago, on with the show

Distant voices calling, calling me
Entertaining me
Memories of the heydays
With the better company

I know what you're thinking, I know what you'll say
But I gotta getta be, at the troupers Jamboree
There's safety in numbers, I'll never forget
40 years ago, on with the show

Roll up, roll up, troupers Jamboree
Old friends attend, long time no see
Roll up, roll up, troupers come on down
Big top, non stop, annual reunion

Keeping a lonely vigil while the girls all have a ball
The stories come out thick and fast, long, short and tall
There's Frank du Preze on the flying trapeze
Finally come down to earth
Good ol' Chris the contortionist, is bent if not worse
Dear ol' Merle the strip-tease girl, do anything for kicks
And the ol' magician has disappeared, still up to his old tricks
Well the gag man's been gagged
And the straight man's gone straight
The mime artiste too clever for words
And the MC's still late

Oh Jamboree, oh Jamboree!
Oh Jamboree, oh Jamboree!
Oh Jamboree, oh Jamboree!
Oh Jamboree, oh Jamboree!

  1. M.... ....

  2. J.... K....

    B R I L L I A N T !!!!!!!!

  3. M.... M....

We all know it’s routine for the Enz but, the make-up, hair , costumes and dancing in music videos is always great!

  4. B.... ....

No idea what this is but I can’t stop listening

  5. M.... B....

I saw them in NZ when they returned from the UK on this tour, they'd changed dramatically since we saw them last, probably due to the fact they'd lost Phil Judd, but we loved the Dizrytmia record all the same. A daft Roxy Music of a record. This takes me back, fabulous clip.

  6. K.... L....

    Come to the Cabrera!

  7. M.... C....

Fantastic. Popular music with imagination and creativity.

  8. R.... H....

    Nice one🌺💗💕😜😎👍💚💚💚

  9. L.... R....

Did they put out a wonderful show on this song especially wearing clown fitting costumes?

  10. d.... ....

This song is still superb 41 years later.
    One of my favourite albums...

  11. d.... o....

this album and especially their poor mentally saddened some might say addled leader i cherish

  12. B.... ....

Loved the madness and freedom of these boys back then. Saw them in Preston about 1977 and they were fascinating. My copy of Dizrythmia went walkabout around 1979. still miss it/them.

  13. M.... S....

I just keep uncovering gold from them. This is like progressive rock, post-punk, new wave and cabaret all rolled into one.

  14. C.... C....

Which came first...the Enz or Oingo Boingo?? Both were around the same time, did that kinda of "cabaret" rock initially & then had pop/ commercial success to a degree. Always found those 2 bands to be very simpatico!!

    C.... C....

    Enz started in 74

    C.... C....

    1971/2
Split Enz started out as an 'adventurous, flamboyant art-rock band', first performing in
1971 at the University of Auckland. The original line-up comprised Tim Finn, Mike Chunn, Robert Gillies, Phil Judd and Noel Crombie. In 1972 the band members went full-time and called themselves Split Ends.

  15. E.... K....

    Genius!!!!

  16. S.... O....

I bet all these lads scared the hell out of their Drama teacher

  17. a.... p....

been listening to this for fourty years....time for a cup of tea.

  18. T.... O....

Innovative inventive and a wealth of material for any new band plunder

  19. T.... O....

so inventive and forward...a wealth of innovations for any young band to plunder.

    T.... O....

    Tom Orourke don’t drink,don’t smoke,what do you do,,,,,ladddd

  20. A.... V....

Mal is going for it. I love this era of Enz, it's superbly chaotic

  21. J.... ....

As a drummer I worship kkeyboardists especially from the art ,prog music era, keys create so many textures and colours,my hero is Tony Banks but I think Eddie Raynor has dethroned him, this piece is brilliant and the keys give it it's emotion.Music is so conservative these days.

    J.... ....

Can not stomach the exploitation of synths used in corny edm music, there are some innovaters though.Keyboards were made for emotion.

    J.... ....

You cannot dethrone Tony Banks, no way

    J.... ....

Can't dethrone someone who was never king

  22. D.... U....

A theatrical tour de force with great music too! Noel always cracks me up!
Just as I remember them, Victoria Apollo, early 80's.

    D.... U....

    NOel crombie

  23. J.... L....

new to me. very cool like it!

  24. p.... ....

2 years have passed since I last commented, well I'm still entranced by early Enz material.

  25. C.... D....

I loved that this album opened up - I cleaned so much pot on this album cover!  Adored the music, too, of course!!!!

    C.... D....

+Carol Dyer You can get stoned by just listening to this track. Malcolm is the one to watch in the videos as well, always sneaks something in.

    C.... D....

+Tap B Especially with headphones on or surrounded by huge speakers!

  26. W.... T....

I saw this when it was first broadcast, stunning, mad hatters tea party of a song, well ahead of its time, wonderful!!!!

  27. p.... ....

    It's like a musical Dali.

  28. p.... ....

Eddie's piano intro is so atmospheric, this track is a tour de force .

    p.... ....

@permaveg He is an incredible keyboardist. Very underrated. I think the only musician to appear on all Split Enz albums. He was even in Crowded House breifly.

    p.... ....

@deathmetaldouglas69 And he played on a Paul McCartney album in 1986 after McCartney saw him with the Enz.

    p.... ....

@deathmetaldouglas69 Actually, he was one of two to appear on all albums - Noel Crombie was the other one.

    p.... ....

@peripheraldevotee94 I knew Noel made all their cloths but I did not know whether he recorded on each album. He is more of a presence than a musician. Once he grew a beard and played the drum set he became a musician as well as a presence.

    p.... ....

@deathmetaldouglas69 The band formed in 72 and Noel joined in 74 ( although Tim and Phil Judd knew Noel before this), Noel's debut was on 'Mental Notes' , formerly known as 'Split Ends' they changed it to 'Split Enz' in 74 the same year Noel became a full time member, perpheraldevotee94 is right that Noel and Eddie or 'Prof' as he was nicknamed are the two longest serving members to have appeared on all Enz albums.

  29. A.... ....

    Wow...this is great! Thanks!
