Spencer Davis Group, The - Don't Want You No More Lyrics

I'm through with you
And your pretty golden hair
Don't want to see you
'round my door anymore
Ain't no use you making it up
I told you gal
And you've come unstuck
You be messin' me up

Don't want you no more
Don't want you no more
Don't want your lovin', honey
Don't want you no more.

You come around and you think
That I'm always there
Always was
But you never seemed to care
Ridin' around with them other guys
You don't seem to realize
That I'm all hung up on you

Don't want you no more
Don't want you no more
Don't want your lovin', honey
Don't want you no more

I stayed out at night
But I never seemed to sleep
Asked myself if you're worth
The money to keep
I'm thinking of the good
Times that we had
I never thought a gal
Could be so bad
I can't help thinkin' to myself

Don't want you no more
Don't want you no more
Don't want your lovin' honey
Don't want you no more

Don't want you no more
Don't want you no more
Don't want your lovin' honey
Don't want you no more

Soulful. The Allmans were probably drawn to this because one of the kings of the overrated, Steve Winwood, had left the Davis Group. Stevie the pud-puller was probably already working on drek like 'Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys'..."At the age of 18, guitarist Phil Sawyer was one of the two replacements for Steve and Muff Winwood in the Spencer Davis Group, the other being another 18-year-old prodigy, Eddie Hardin on keyboards." Don't know who's singing; both were lead vocalists. Hardin & Spencer Davis are credited with writing the song.

Bob Laughlin you have a misleading last name.your comments are jealous. It's obvious.in poker they call it a tell.

Actually, it was me on Vocals and lead Guitar, Eddy played bass on the hammond. When I left the band I had to sign a disclaimer. SD has been collecting the royalties ever since.
I have been very successful in my own right as a composer artist and still am. Normally I couldn't care less about SD but sometimes when I think about it, I do get a bit hot under the collar, that said, I was young and stupid, I didn't have a publishing contract nor was I a member of PRS at that time.. Can't live in the past, everyone gets the effects of the causes they make..everyone. BTW That was my playing on the Allmans as well.

@Phil Sawyer Phil you might be able to get PPL payments on the SD records. Back-dated.

Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley's group, The Second Coming worked this up for Duane and Gregg .

There are about 6 studio and live versions by SDG. Phil Sawyer was lead vocalist and played solo guitar on the original single version. On the LP "With their new face on" both lead vocals and solo guitar were overdubbed by Ray Fenwick, an excellent  guitar player and decent vocalist. To my opinion the best version features Spencer Davis on vocals and Booker T. Jones on organ.

    R.... J....

well then what version is this?

    R.... J....

This is the version with Phil Sawyer on guitar and voice and Eddie Hardin on Hammond (w/bass pedals). It was the B-side of 'Time Seller', the band's first single after the Winwood brothers left the lineup. Sawyer soon left the band, so when the band's album 'With Their New Face On' was done they had Hardin overdub his vocals on the original backing track (I believe it was Hardin, not Fenwick as noted by Ratten Joe (above). When Hardin and drummer Pete York departed to form Hardin-York (yes, just keys and drums, but very good), they were replaced by Dee Murray (bass) and Nigel Olsen (drums). Those two would soon show up as Elton John's band (in the early days John only had bass and drums). I saw the SDG w. Fenwick, Murray and Olson and they were good. But the character of the original band we'd grown up with (I was a Canadian kid living in Germany and totally into the British music thing) was gone. (I see I did a previous post on this as Mr. Cherry Juice (below).

    I LOVE IT

This was the B-side of the first Spencer Davis Group single AFTER Stevie and Muff Winwood left the group, 'Time Seller'. The brothers were replaced by Phil Sawyer, who played guitar and did the vocal here, and Eddie Hardin on organ and bass pedals. When Sawyer departed the group the vocals were replaced with Hardin's voice for their 'Mr. Second Class' LP. This tune was penned by Spencer, though many more people know it in instrumental format as the opening track of the first Allman Bros. album.
