Spektor, Regina - The Prayer Of François Villon (Molitva) Lyrics
Poka Zemlya esche vertitsya,
poka esche yarok svet,
Gospodi, day zhe tyi kazhdomu,
chego u nego net:
umnomu day golovu,
day schastlivomu deneg
I ne zabud pro menya.
Poka Zemlya esche vertitsya
Gospodi, tvoya vlast!
day rvuschemusya k vlasti
navlastvovatsya vslast,
day peredyishku schedromu,
hot do ishoda dnya.
Kainu day raskayanie
Ya veryu: tyi vse umeesh,
ya veruyu v mudrost tvoyu,
kak verit soldat ubityiy,
chto on prozhivaet v rayu,
kak verit kazhdoe uho
tihim recham tvoim,
kak veruem i myi sami,
ne vedaya, chto tvorim!
Gospodi moy Bozhe,
zelenoglazyiy moy!
Poka Zemlya esche vertitsya,
i eto ey stranno samoy,
poka ey esche hvataet
vremeni i ognya,
day zhe tyi vsem ponemnogu
I ne zabud pro menya.
Day zhe tyi vsem ponemnogu
I ne zabud pro menya.

Spektor, Regina The Prayer Of François Villon (Molitva) Comments
She remember me to Jacques Brel. She is magnificent!!
Ooh, I know why I love this song. It's quite like Schubert's Fantasia in F minor for four hands. (this song is in the key of F minor, too. That's why it sounds the same.) The chord structure is gorgeously similar. I know Regina was also classically trained which makes it even nicer
Please, Regina, sing for us "Интернационал"!
Here is Molitva and quite some other Okudzhava’s essentials in EN. Performed by Daniel Kahn. Really good render. https://youtu.be/mp3qWPHdZ8w
While yet the Earth is revolving,
While yet the daylight is broad,
Lord, pray, give everyone
Whatever they have in want:
Give the wise one more brilliance,
The coward a horse to flee,
Give the happy some money…
And don't forget about me.
While yet the Earth is revolving –
Lord, yours is the power!
Give those fighting for power
To rule however much they desire;
Give relief to the generous
At least until the eve;
Bestow upon Cain repentance…
And don't forget about me.
I believe: you can do anything;
In your wisdom I trust,
Just as a killed soldier believes
That he is in the paradise;
Just as every ear believes
To the quiet words of yours,
Just as we ourselves also believe
When we know not what we do!
O Lord, oh the Almighty,
O God mine green of eyes!
While yet the Earth is revolving,
Taken itself by the surprise,
While yet it has in sufficiency
Both the time and the heat,
Give everybody a little…
And don't forget about me.
Awenosome. No words to describe the feeling...
Can't like button hard enough
button liking intensifies
She really needs to write an album of pure Russian songs. I'm sure it would take her about two weeks. I love the way she pronounces the words, it inspires me to keep learning Russian.

In 1972 the Polish female singer Halina Kunicka recorded this song already in Polish, and it is just as dramatic and beautiful as the version by Regina Spektor. Alas I do not have the words of the Polish version, but it must of course exist. The song was retaken on a CD from Halina Kalicka "Zlota Kolekcja" (Golden collection) in 2002. The CD has the number 7243 5 42654 2 6. Enjoy this wonderful song.

Thanks a lot for the information! I'll try to find it somewhere, but it might prove to be quite hard!
Here is Halina Kunicka version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bplN8GvInj0
Hanna Banaszak also sang this song, and it is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ7pHDJZZdM
Thanks for the lyrics in Russian I really needed those. Even though I don't speak Russian I can read the Russian alphabet
Still never gets old even if it's 4 years ago :) Regina makes me wanna learn Russian, but I only learned how to write it :P I can read and memorize the lyrics but not understand it :(
She makes me want to learn Russian to much too (it's INCREDIBLY hard by the way...) I can memorize it fairly easily just from listening to it but I also can't understand a word of it
I'm a native speaker and can help you learning russian. For free, yeah.
Ru. Damn if I wasn't taking Spanish 1 this year for school I'd 100% be learning Russian or Swedish.
This song is drenched in a pool of half-helpless cynicism and passive aggressive resentment. I can clearly imagine the demeanor it should be sung upon... Yet somehow it manages to be pathetically true for what it represents. I've masturbated today.
Even though I don't understand it, I like it. Suck on that Kenneth Brown. Please don't tell people what to say. Who made Kenneth Brown the comment police. Sucker!
Garson...same
This song makes me weep. Every time.
+brandon barnett Yes, such a beatiful sonfg and words
Ja ne snaju, no ochen krashiva pesnyu/molitva ;(
A song of Bulat Okudzhava
While the world is still turning, and while the daylight is broad,
Oh Lord, pray, please give everyone what he or she hasn't got.
Give the timid a horse to ride, give the wise a bright head,
Give the fortunate money and about me don't forget.
While the world is still turning, Lord, You are omnipotent,
Let those striving for power wield it to their heart's content.
Give a break to the generous, at least for a day or two,
Pray, give Cain repentance, and remember me, too.
I know You are almighty, and I believe You are wise
Like a soldier killed in a battle believes he's in paradise.
Like every eared creature believes, oh, my Lord, in You,
Like we believe, doing something, not knowing what we do.
Oh Lord
Nice job making it rhyme!
Probably the best translation I've seen so far, but the ending line is, imo, more potent & more direct, translated as "and don't forget about me." For the sake of rhyming, this works, though, and that's impressive that you got it to rhyme.
I don't understand a word, but the song is beautiful. Her voice, the piano, the strength...
Oh Lord
can someone tell me what the untranslated lyrics are? because it's so beautiful as it is that in english it wouldn't be at all the same
:O I've got all Regina suggestions! :)
she makes me wanna learn russian...

is it french?
It's Russia
Love Regina so much, such an inspiration.
<3
It took me a second to realize it want english XD
it sounds so beautiful
beautiful. i have no clue what any of it means but the emotion in her voice is beautiful. you can really appreciate it when the words have no meaning to you. you can just immerse yourself in her voice.
Haha. I'm just happy that I can read Russian. :)
I don't understand anything and that makes it more beautiful haha
I wish I could understand what she was saying...
Not that it matters, it is still beautiful!
