Specials, The - Concrete Jungle (Live) Lyrics

I'm going out tonight
I don't know if I'll be alright
Everyone wants to hurt me
Baby danger in the city

I have to carry a knife
Because there's people threatening my life
I can't dress just the way I want
I'm being chased by the national front

Concrete jungle, animals are after me
Concrete jungle, it ain't safe on the streets
Concrete jungle, glad I got my mates with me

I won't fight for a cause
Don't want to change the law
Leave me alone, just leave me alone
I want to get out on my own

I'm walking home tonight
I only walk where there's lots of lights
In the alleys and the doorways
Some throw a bottle right in your face

Concrete jungle, animals are after me
Concrete jungle, it ain't safe on the streets
Concrete jungle, glad I got my mates with me

I'm walking home tonight
I only walk where there's lots of lights
In the alleys and the doorways
Some throw a bottle right in your face

I won't fight for a cause
I don't want to change the law
Leave me alone, just leave me alone
I want to get out on my own

Concrete jungle, animals are after me
Concrete jungle, it ain't safe on the streets
Concrete jungle, glad I got my mates with me

    T.... 0....

@ TONE 007 : Being 55 myself and having no idea who "Ed Sheeran" is all I can say is, if it's of this generation then it's most likely crap and I'll stick to the old stuff... :-)

I was 7 in '79 and The Specials frightened the fucking life out of me! Didn't take me long to get over it though and have been a Rude Boy ever since! Bullied on Chelmsley Wood with my mate Steve for sticking with it and now most of them turn up at various Ska Nights!

    G.... L....

... under 40s maybe. 47 here the Specials only album I've purchased more than ~ 5 x other than Janes Addiction Nothing Shocking. They'd either die in a car tape player, boombox, stolen from parties, etc ... on the front lines! Lol ...

    G.... L....

I have been listening to them since I was 9 and still love them always will!!

  15. P.... U....

    Thàt energy 😃 !

  16. C.... C....

Your going home in a fucking ambulance amazing lyric

    C.... C....

@ Roland Jc120 Tunes: It isn't actaully a lyric, it was a common chant in the UK back in the 70's usually shouted between rival gangs and football hooligans before a fight... ;-)

    C.... C....

Followed by “Your gonna get your Fucking head kicked in”
    Class lyrics.

  17. H.... S....

One of the best bands this country has ever produced.
They never got the recognition they deserved.
They appeared one Thursday night on Top of the Pops singing Gangsters.
Friday morning at school we all knew something had changed, it was massive.

    H.... S....

@ Harvey Smith: They are indeed THE best band this country, heck the worlds ever produced but I aint sure why you think they never got the recognition they deserved though !!!

You said it yourself "we ALL knew something had changed" and for those few short years that The Specials and 2 Tone ruled the music scene and change it forever. they where indeed recognised by all and created a legacy that is still recognised worldwide to this very day.... ;-)

The Specials are probably one of the most recognised bands of that era and how they changed the music scene is legendary and their contribution to the history of music culture still pervades to this very day even among younger generations whom weren't around at the time... not bad for a band with such a short career and just 7 singles and two albums, a feat most other bands could only dream of... ;-)

    H.... S....

@MadFranko008 With a name like Mad Frank, how could I possible disagree!
Looking forward to the new album in the New Year.
I hope that it gets airtime and a more people will appreciate them.
I feel so lucky to have experienced what happened back then.

  18. s.... f....

    Now that sounds amazing frank

    s.... f....

The Specials always do Simon... ;-)

    s.... f....

@MadFranko008 you know what franko my old mum worked in a laundry above TW STUDIOS Fulham, and I met elvis Costello ,who signed a single for me ,I also met a lovely bunch of geezers who turned out to be the specials ,I was 13 ,I heard them record the whole first lp ,and that my friend will stay with me forever,at the time I hadn't a clue who they where ,just nice geezers ,unlike a few I've met there.cheers again for your uploads mate .

    s.... f....

@ simon furlong: Now that's a memory to cherish Simon (wee bit jealous now to be honest). The Specials for me have been and always will be my favourite band and music of all time since I first heard em on the radio back in 79...

My most cherished memory though is much more recent...

A few years ago I was contacted out of the blue on FaceBook by a guy called Elliot who asked me if I could supply him with the original cleaned up Specials videos that I post here. Of course I said I couldn't as I don't distribute pirate copies of things. He told me he was John Bradbury's son and wanted to give his dad "Brad" them for his 60th birthday as Brad loved to collect the old footage of the band and he thought the versions I upload were the best he'd seen...

Course I didn't believe this guy called "Elliot" and told him so in a rather cheeky manner but he kept on asking me and persisting, wasn't until I asked someone I know from the music world that I found out the guy was indeed Brads son, so after I apologised to him for not believing him and being a bit cheeky about it too I sent him the videos which he gave to Brad for his 60th birthday... :-)

Some weeks later I got a surprise package in the post which was some signed drumsticks and signed CD's along with a wee personal thank you note from Brad himself... those items and note are now my most prized possession and will stay with me forever and are all the more poignant now that Brad is sadly gone...

Glad you also enjoy and appreciate The Specials stuff round here and you're welcome mate... :-)

    s.... f....

Where is the DeLorean with the Flux-Compensator? Please, give, i must go back to the 70'

  33. S.... B....

Still love the live versions of this so much more than the record. This was my first musical love with all British ska/2 Tone, still love it just as much today.

    S.... B....

For me The Specials where, are and always will be the best live performers of all time Stuart, no other band comes close to them when it comes to playing live... :-)

  34. F.... S....

Is that Marc Zuckerberg at 2:25 ???

    F.... S....

    No, that is Mark Suckerberg.

    F.... S....

    Thats what I thought😃

  35. j.... ....

What a great version. More punk than ska. "I'm being chased by a couple of c****". Typical of the era.

    j.... ....

Nah, that is what the second generation of SKA was/ is (AKA 2 Tone), a fusion of the punk attitude put to a more frantic and more thumping version of the original Ska... twas and is simply the best music ever created... :-)

  36. D.... M....

i was there! god it sounds even BETTER! ELECTRIC! roddy really ROCKS

  37. P.... M....

Thanks for loading this. So raw, great energy.

    P.... M....

    You're welcome... :-)

Yup, back in the day there wasn't (and hasn't been since) any other band whom could pull off a live gig quite like the Specials, getting old now but I'm glad I was lucky enough to be there during that era and experience it for myself... :-)

  38. G.... G....

Last week someone putted a gun on my cousin's head and demanded all his money. yesterday 2 guys tried to beat me for no reason in my neighborhood. A poor kid has been robbed three consecutive days at the corner of my street. I have no car so I can't get out on my own anymore, it ain't safe on the streets.

  39. r.... s....

The Black Guy with a tambourine just blows up my mind, every time i watch this.

    r.... s....

That's Neville Staple, still going strong!

  40. J.... B....

    best band ever

  41. B.... D....

    What is he saying 00.09?

    B.... D....

+Bobby Di Bernado "You're going home in F@cking ambulance, cos you're gonna get your F@cking head kicked in)...

  42. R.... ....

The 7 of them just cramped on a tiny stage and they still fucking own it

  43. T.... 0....

Cant ever see One Direction singing about "having a bottle shoved at your face".

    T.... 0....

+Tony Forster Mainly cos they can't actually sing though... ;-)

  44. J.... S....

wish I'd had been there. Awesome!!!

  45. M.... T....

This is a fucking great live version.

  46. s.... r....

Concrete jungle should of been released as a single! With terry singing, and a video similar to this. Roddy deserves more credit for his songs and great guitar playing one of the best!

  47. C.... H....

    great band

  48. t.... ....
