Sparks - Suburban Homeboy Lyrics
I am a suburban homeboy with a suburban 'ho right by my side
I am a suburban homeboy and I say yo dog to my pool cleaning guy
I hope I'm baggy enough for them
I play my Shaggy enough for them
I'll pop a cap up some fool at the Gap
I am a suburban homeboy with a suburban ho right by my side
I am a suburban homeboy and I say yo' dog to my detailing guy
I bought me cornrows on Amazon
I started listening to Farrakhan
My caddy and me he looks just like Jay-Z
And I'm a suburban homeboy
I am a suburban homeboy with a suburban ho right by my side
She's known as Miss Missy Tannenbaum and she's one freak bitch, ain't no lie
She looks like Iverson in a way
She yo yo's me and I yo yo her back
And I'm a suburban homeboy
She yo yo's me and I yo yo her back
And I'm a suburban homeboy
She yo yo's me and I yo yo her back
And I'm a suburban homeboy
We are suburban homeboys
With our suburban ho's right by our sides
We are suburban homeboys and we say yo dog and we mean it, by God
We've got an old school mentality
Oxford and Cambridge mentality
Props to our peeps and please keep your receipts
And we are suburban homeboys
Props to our peeps and please keep your receipts
And we are suburban homeboys
Props to our peeps and please keep your receipts
And we are suburban homeboys
Props to our peeps and please keep your receipts
And we are suburban homeboys

Sparks Suburban Homeboy Comments
I love this song among many others of these talented twins. I follow them sinds 1972.
A real earworm...
Satire! Hee hee hee!
this would be a great jingle for a suburban homeboy clothing commercial!
Love it!
Best band ever. The music is as far removed from the hood as the characters in the song are, genius.
Logan Huntzburger brought me here via Gilmore Girls.
Gilmore Girls brought me here
Rap the Musical contains NO rap music!
Back Home, England World Cup Squad, 1970.
A big middle finger to the white kids of middle America trying to be black...
What if I wanna be Japanese?
This has to be one of the funniest songs I've ever heard
It's hilarious because it's in the style of a cheeseball show tune. It wouldn't be nearly as funny if done in a more hip hop style.
Just discovered this track.....how totally brilliant and funny
Great song from a ground breaking album
SPARKS forever:-)
From the projects in St Tropez, LOL
Sparks were always great satirists while digging into the popular style of each era... in the early 70s Sparks delivered some great glam rock to rival T-Rex... in the late 70s, Sparks disco epic, "No. 1 Song in Heaven" had Giorgio Moroder behind the board no less... in the early 80s, "Eaten by the Monster of Love" was a cult hit and Sparks' 1981 album "Angst in my Pants" & 1982 album "Sparks in Outer Space" are truly great new wave classics... they haven't lost their iconoclastic cred and hilarious humor.

She yo yo's me and I yo yo her and I yo yo her back!
Rock'en the cat box
I came here because of Logan! 🙋🏼
Same 😂
4 years later... Same! Re-watching for the 4th time but I have no memory of this song. Lol. It's so great!
I love Sparks! And I'm a suburban homegirl, lol!
I saw these guys at the Roxy in Hollywood right when Kimono My House came out. That was cutting edge in a ....strange kind of way similar to the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The band was outstanding.
I buy my waffles on Amazon.
cornrows not waffles. #justsayin
Very Monty Python
Thumbs up! Ok,not what you meant, huh? Rory goes to tell Logan.
Awesomeness. It's like something Noel Coward would have written if he'd lived long enough.
reminds me of south park and, at times, ween
sounds like a showtune
Probably my least favourite Sparks album but this song is fantastic
Yo, yo!
This reminds me so much of my school! Its a private school but all the kids pretend theyre hard... Very funny to watch! Amazing song!
GG s5e19?
Soundcloud mr. kilroy :)
@Mesarphelous my dad made a rap version of it.. with their consent! They are super nice guys. check it!
where is this?
Sam Kilroy
Where's link, Sam??? Stop torturing us!!!
could someone post the lyrics to this gem?
@JohnnyLovely2 It satirizes rap and borrows from it without just being a stale rap-spoof. In other words, it IS a rap song in many ways, and in a much smarter, funnier way than doing just another soundalike satire.
Innovators! Flatout... Brilliant!
When I first heard this I thought it were the beatles xD
@ladyislingering but you have to remember that Sparks LIKE rap music. That news upset Morrissey quite a bit.
@pogsquatch ... deep inside you know you are SOOOOOO RIGHT!!!! The day it happens, people in California should do a remake impersonation of The Day the Earth Stood Still . All rise for Ronald and Russell Maël !!! Greetings from sunny Portugal ( going through a dark grey cloud - Lights out Ibiza!)
@JohnnyLovely2 That it's not a rap song and sounds more like a show tune makes the song even funnier,IMO.
Is there a place for Sparks in the R+R Hall of Fame ? Ron + Russ = Genius.
@harrymapex - you're so right ! I too love Sparks and have always loved this song particularly - but now you come to mention it, it does remind me of that 70's football song !
I think the Mael brothers knew of this song and that it inspired them! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag_ujTfx3ak
@Mesarphelous Common courtesy, sir......and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all!!
@harrymapex You're on the internet. You don't have to apologize for shit.
@Mesarphelous Please sir, take no offence! As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've just rediscovered Sparks, have bought several CDs, and am staggered by the revelation of their brilliance. What I referred to (in the comment I made) was that, having qualified for the 1970 soccer World Cup finals, the England team made a 45 called "Back home", which bears a startling resemblance to this tune.......but I love this song, and thanks for posting it!
Definitely! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag_ujTfx3ak
@harrymapex What
Ladies and gentlemen - I love "les freres" to death....however, for those of you who are English and of a certain age, all I'll say is (and sing along now!!):
"Back home, they'll be thinking about us
When we are far away"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag_ujTfx3ak
@JohnnyLovely2 Absolutely not. The world is plagued with thousands of rap parodies already. It is utterly flawless as it is.
they should have made this a rap song
They wrote a rap song the same year as this. It's called sing my song, it's a collaboration with oschino and is available on you tube. It's from the film state property.
Who else but Sparks would come up with this? Love, love, love it..............
This is fucking GODLY.
joyyy joy joy
There's plenty of good rap music, just turn off the radio.
Rap only makes sense if you add the letter c in front of it 😂
@forloveoffilm From what I've heard the new album is a very MPD (multi personality disorder) affair which features songs from virtually every genre they've explored over their career. I like the "Welcome Mr. Bergman" song as it's got a very classic rock feel to it, reminiscent of their early 70's sound.
@rubinoos1 A lot of stuff that nobody else listens to, or used to. They like bands like The Yardbirds, The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, and artists like Peggy Lee, Morrissey, Graeme Revell and a lot of long deceased classical and Romantic music composers.
Glad you enjoy it.
you are my hero! thank you for posting it.
Sparks are actually fans of rap music. :D
They actually wrote a rap song around the same time as suburban homeboy. It's called sing my song and is in the film state property. They do the music on it too. It's a collaboration between oschino and sparks. Check it out on you tube. ☺
