Sparks - So Tell Me Mrs. Lincoln Aside From That How Was The Play? Lyrics
Only the subtext, never the text
Wish I could push a button for next
Only the surface, never the heart
When will the confab finally start?
Nodding my head like a bobblehead doll
Don't interrupt, you'll just cause a fuss
Hope I can catch the 10 o'clock bus
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was the play?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was your day?
Only the warmup, still not the game
Every time exactly the same
Try to drop hints, a glance at my watch
A glance at my watch, while we slip a notch
Must be a talent so hard to coach
Stalling without strategic intent
What should I try to give up for Lent?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was the play?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was your day?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was the play?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was your day?
Putting all of that aside
Putting all of that aside
Putting all of that aside
Putting all of that aside
Putting all of that aside
What lies underneath it all?
What lies underneath it all?
What lies underneath it all?
What lies underneath it all?
Wandering mind, meandering words
I couldn't tell you any I've heard
For the last hour, hour or two
Now I retie the lace on my shoe
Is this a breakup or is it not?
All I can tell you, man, I am shot
Don't interrupt, you'll just cause a fuss
Looks like I missed the 10 o'clock bus
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was the play?
So tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from that how was your day?
What lies underneath, ignored?

Sparks So Tell Me Mrs. Lincoln Aside From That How Was The Play? Comments
Been watching Sparks for 50 years now. Nice sounding band on this album. I like when they have a guitar in the mix as it makes the sound deeper. Nice sounding rhythm section too.
SO GOOD!!!
Finally the rocking side of Sparks returned. So damn long coming. Better late than never!
Sparks were way too intelligent for American audience.
Americans don't deserve great Sparks! Wish they were European, the whole music scene would be totally different today.
geil:-))
seriously underrated! Many people I know never even heard of Sparks......and what an innovative groovy lil tune this is!
Hey, I've been down with sparks since 1974, and I'm American.. William Elliot. But seriously, for the most part your right..I initially thought the band was from Europe..German to be specific. In fact they were failing here in the U.S. back in 1973, and upon advice from their manager moved their game to england where they earned a cult following..
One of the best tracks on the Hippopotamus album, and one of the most interesting song titles they've come up with as well. I love it! :)
There is something very deep in this record. It goes beyond just a cool band making a cool record. There is something here that i can't put my finger on. It's almost tragically excellent. It hits me right in the chest.
"that`s what elder brother should do" (с)
this should've opened the HIPPO - best song - rivals with "At Home, At Work At Play" please make it a small record -
Fabulous song title .... ha ha..
I saw the show here in NYC a couple weeks ago. It kicked basic ass, and my town gave 'em what one hell of a welcome. Unforgettable.
As always the arrangement suits the situation of the song. The aftermath of a political assassination is not going to be "clean". It's going to be chaotic with the earnest voice of the shallow reporter fighting to get his "human interest" soundbite heard.
still fantastic
Got to laugh!
dead groovy
This song and album is so good. I really like the new band line up with solid drummer, guitar's and bass. This is classic Sparks. These guy's are incredible. Waaaay underated. They are too smart for American audience's.
7otto666 That's great to hear. They do have a cult type of following. I was talking about mainstream support. I saw them in LA for the Hello Young Lover's tour and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
My 14-yr-old kid was with me. He's loved them since he was five. He was so thrilled to see this show. But i noticed that there were quite a few young people in the audience, and i'm convinced it's due in part to their recent collaboration with Franz Ferdinand. A smart move for Sparks, cos it seems to have brought in a new crowd.
7otto666 Very cool. Sparks is a timeless band Always been a few steps ahead.
Liked them from 'yonks' ago, don't believe how well produced/mixed this album is. Saw them at Leeds last year and they were amazing. Crowd gave them a 5 minute applause after Edith Piaf and Russ just looked overawed. Quite moving. Magical.
Can I give U a thousand thumbs up!!! Proud to say they are my home town band and grew up up with them!!
Seeing them tomorrow in Brussels, SO looking forward to it
Great album!
Magnificent! It reminds me of Kimono My House (my favorite Sparks album).
tremendous song, very good
Hope they do a stripped back version of this live!
bad song, the bubbly synth crap over the whole thing distracts too much from the good lyrics. Normally I love synths but this was too distracting. Still love you guys though.
I agree with the synth problem, but I still like the song anyway.
Does your nurse know you're using her computer?
AMAZING ALBUM ❤
Wow, Sparks, still head and shoulders above the rest. Fantastic.
no .. momus has already made this joke.. Nick Currie is head and shoulders above Sparks.. listen to "Lucky Like St. Sebastian" or "how do you find my sister" or "the guitar lesson" or "closer to you"..
My new favorite Sparks song!!
Song title of the year !
...of the century!!!
