Sparks - I Wish You Were Fun Lyrics

My first Spark album was in outer space, I have gone back to listen to the previous album before, now I have heard every song they have ever performed. Great talent, and amazing clarity. How is it that they can sing so well going into their 70’s? Truly amazing, and inspirational. They’re doing what they love, and should continue... here’s to Sparks... a raised glass of cherry limeade

The comments here seem to interpret this song as an anthem imploring people to lighten up.

Unless I've radically misread things, the song is great because it's actually suggesting the opposite. It's a person who has led a life with the privilege of burying their head in the sand, and one probably free from any real hardships, reprimanding someone from one of the planet's more abject locations for not being "fun" (the reductive, fetishized concept of fun).

I'm certain that many do understand this, but the first bunch of comments I read seemed to miss this. I love mindless "Fun, Fun, Fun" songs as much as the next guy, but those don't seem to be too much in keeping with 21st century Sparks.

We did a Sparks poll in the forum pages on their website for everybody's favourite song of the 'Hippopotamus' album. This won. Sparks fans are happy people so it kinda just tunes into all that I guess. Brilliant album of course & the next one is in the works.....

I love Sparks. Hippopotamus is a great album.

This song has my favorite verse from any Sparks song, which is very hard to determine. A friend of mine zeroed in on it also. "But how 'bout a somersault until you are blatantly fun, Do that I'd be stunned, I wish you were fun."

Dan Nájera - I listen to songs by Sparks that helps me through some rough times, they do that... Satire is great, and misunderstood and with a catchy beat. Unlike any band ever... the 80’s started with Sparks in the 70’s and still lives on... plus other eras, daring and yet a blend of fun.

This one is my favorite.

19 years old and just discovered Sparks. Awesome band! So much better then the current and boring popular music that gets all the radio play.

My kid is 14 yrs old and he's loved them since he was FIVE. ha ha. I took him to see the show two weeks ago here in NYC. It was massive. I'm glad that there are some young'uns out there who appreciate these dudes.

Kicks basic ass. I saw their NYC show a couple weeks ago, and it was unbelievable. A friend bought me the double LP picture disk, and we went to see the show. I can't stop listening to this record.

I discovered them in Summer 1975, performing Looks Looks Looks on "Supersonic"! Instant love. I went out and bought the first Sparks LP I could find, which happened to be Propaganda. It's still my favorite album of all time.

im 75-i first heard Sparks when a friend turned me on to Indiscreet and iv loved them ever since-this is the one song from Hippopotamus (so far) that keeps playing in my head-great song-great album

Whether it was recorded 1968 or -69.
No one develope humor to this level, you grow up with it, so they were probably crazy from start... 😉 The world needs more like them💖💖💖💖💖
