Soundgarden - Searching With My Good Eye Closed Lyrics

Painted blue across my eyes
And tie the linen on
And I'm on my way
Looking for the paradigm
So I can pass it off
Is it on my side
Is it to the sky
Looking to the sky and down
Searching for a ground
With my good eye closed
If I took you for a ride
Would you take it wrong
Or would you make it right
Looking for a pedestal
That I can put you on
And be on my way
Is it to the sky
Looking to the sky and down
Searching for a ground
With my good eye closed
Stop you're trying to bruise my mind
I can do it on my own
Stop you're trying to kill my time
It's been my death since I was born
I don't remember half the time
If I'm hiding or I'm lost
But I'm on my way

Soundgarden Searching With My Good Eye Closed Comments
  1. Ronik Fletcherov

I remember we would so shit faced on street bikes and booze, I'd drop acid, then we would race from Fort Worth to Dallas , my riding buddy , Mikee was as fast as it goes. One hot night we did it in 22 minutes. This song was played in my head , the big Shovelheads were at max horsepower on Avation fuel. Life was good....

  2. Ryan G.

The drumming makes my nipples hard.

  3. Ben Wherlock

This is Romesh Ranganathan's favourite rock tune!

  4. ged glass

    i cant be fucked

  5. Jame Ritch

"The devil says" , effin killer intro to an awesome album!!🤘😃🤘

  6. Pawl Poche

My go to song when I get the “Earths Best Weed” in my possession

  7. Jef P

That version at near the end of the "Hype!" Documentary, tho

  8. rebirth70

Like this tune. SHows the bands versatility. GOd/Jesus bless and save all that read this. Amen!!

  9. Pawl Poche

Listen to this on headphones soulfully for the bass tone
    Amazing

  10. Pawl Poche

    This is Chris’s finest moment

  11. The Akh

You can call this grunge I guess. But no other "grunge" band made such quirky music. Anybody hear anything like this before or after? Odd time signatures and arrangements. It think 4 songs on this album had brass sections!

  12. The Akh

The bass. Ben really solidified this band and made such a huge contribution.

    Pawl Poche

The Akh I listen to this song to soulfully hear the tone of his bass on headphones
    Mesmerizing

    The Akh

Ben was playing some old jazz bass that was previously left neglected in a studio. It was made of solid wood and weighed a ton. Ben called it "Tree". Sadly, Tree was stolen from a storage locker, and has never been seen again. Bet that bass means alot to Ben. I hope it turns up.

  13. Claudino Rodrigues

    Este é meu bom olho
    This is my good eye

    Você ouve uma vaca?
    Do you hear a cow?

    Um galo diz
    A rooster says

    Aqui está um porco
    Here is a pig

    O diabo diz
    The devil says
Pintado de azul nos meus olhos
    Painted blue across my eyes

    E amarrou a roupa
    And tied the linen on

    E eu estou a caminho
    And I'm on my way

    Procurando o paradigma
    Looking for the paradigm

    Para que eu possa passar
So I can pass it off

Está do meu lado, do meu lado
Is it on my side, on my side
    É para o céu, é para o céu, é para o céu agora
Is to the sky, is to the sky, is to the sky now

Procurando o chão com meu bom olho fechado
Searching for the ground with my good eye closed
Se eu te levasse para um passeio, você entenderia errado?
If I took you for a ride, would you take it wrong?

    Ou você faria certo, certo?
Or would you make it right, make it right?

Procurando por um pedestal que eu possa colocar em você
Looking for a pedestal that I can put you on

E estar no meu caminho, no meu caminho
And be on my way, on my way
    É para o céu, é para o céu, é para o céu agora
Is to the sky, is to the sky, is to the sky now

Procurando por um terreno com meu bom olho fechado
Searching for a ground with my good eye closed
    Com meu bom olho fechado
    With my good eye closed
Pare, você está tentando machucar minha mente
Stop you're trying to bruise my mind

    Eu posso fazer isso sozinho
I can do it on my own

Pare, você está tentando matar o meu tempo
Stop you're trying to kill my time

Tem sido minha morte desde que nasci
It's been my death since I was born

Não lembro metade do tempo se estou me escondendo ou estou perdido
I don't remember half the time if I'm hiding or I'm lost

Mas estou a caminho, a caminho
But I'm on my way, on my way
    para o céu
    to the sky

(Estou a caminho) para o céu
(I'm on my way) to the sky

(Estou a caminho) para o céu
(I'm on my way) to the sky

(Estou a caminho) para o céu
(I'm on my way) to the sky

Estou a caminho (para o céu)
I'm on my way (to the sky)

    Para o céu
    To the sky

    Para o céu
    To the sky

    No meu caminho
    On my way

    No meu caminho
    On my way

    É para o céu?
    Is it to the sky?

    É para o céu
    Is it to the sky
    This is my good eye
    Do you hear a cow?
    A rooster says
    Here is a pig
    The devil says
    Painted blue across my eyes
    And tied the linen on
    And I'm on my way

Or would you make it right, make it right?
Looking for a pedestal that I can put you on

I'm on my way (to the sky)
    To the sky
    To the sky
    On my way
    On my way
    Is it to the sky?
    Is it to the sky

  14. OS Biggs

The fact that there a miniscule thumbs down shows that even God can't please everyone. Soundgarden aptly describes this awesome band. This song is one more example of the beautiful audioflora of Soundgarden

  15. rene santillana

    This is best Rock

  16. Rebecca Hicks

What a beautiful singer. Inside and out. A poet. Why????

  17. Philip Scoggins

    searching👀

  18. Hannibal Ping

Generation X, this is your song. Consider yourself lucky.

  19. Lil' LuLu

It was 1991 and Grunge hit the radio waves. It was a time of rapid change and we had just become adults. Grunge was our way of expressing our lives at the time. It makes me sad that it all had to go away so quickly, but I can relive those years through this song and through Chris Cornell. #SayHelloToHeaven

  20. andrew cozine

Rest in peace, my brother. The world misses your beautiful voice.

  21. Corum Irsei

Of the many grunge bands i liked in my youth Soundgarden are now the only one i go back to most often along with TAD. I've told my Mother and all my friends that i want Jesus Christ pose at the beginning of my funeral and Superunknown on the way out..Also i'm not being burned or buried.. I'm being housed above ground encased in stone surrounded by a myriad of articles that gave me an impetus to live in this short lived charade, albeit for me anyway a worthwhile one

  22. The Island Retreat

Ahh, who knew those were the best years...    I still love this album.

  23. Keith Kramer

To the sky I’m on my way

  24. TheHalusis

I was an 18 year old listening to this on cassette tape working at AASI in burbank, always favored SG over the rest grunge bands

  25. Michael Miller

Didn't work out too well for ya

  26. James Barrett

Every time is like the first time. It is just a soaring, take-the-top-of-your-head-off explosion of pure perfect sound, and be free.

  27. James Goodwin

Is kim tuned down to B? Or is he playing a 7 string? Or is that just shepherd on the bass? Trying to sound this out on guitar...

    Blacken ed

Guitar's Kim is in BADGBE in this version, on the lives performances was in Drop D

  28. Zachary Smith

    Soul underground them

  29. Susan Aitchison

Thanks again Chuckie for giving me this tape. It was at first, wtf? And then I discovered the brilliance that is Soundgarden. Wish I still had that cassette! Lol

  34. John Scorpion

why do they always sound tinny to me? Not a fan. Just here for a friend.

  35. Jacob Jones

They started playing this song, and I looked a my buddy and pointed to the stage.. I took a taxi home.. lol..

  36. Susan Aitchison

Kim's playing is insanely good. Of course, Chris is a god, and I miss him terribly. But it seems like people don't talk about how amazing the rest of the band is anymore. This is just sublime.

    tom33pr

Absolutely. He gave that Black Sabbath feeling to Soundgarden along with the atonal/arythmic 'madness'. He is special!

  37. bravetitangrizzly

Shout out to Joey MF'n Diaz

  38. Mike D

I love to sing along with Chris

  39. Chris Simpson

  41. drue anderson

thee bestest voice of many moons.tragic loss god bless you and you and you.

  42. Pig Ford

I think this might’ve been the moment that Baby Boomers realized rock & roll didn’t belong to them anymore...this wasn’t a glam band or a band trying to be retro (the Black Crowes as an example) this was hard,it was loud & it was really fuckin good & it belonged to my generation (that being X) & those sellout fucks didn’t own mainstream rock anymore 🤟🏻🖕

    Kims Husband

Boomers like me EARNED the right to savor the 90's music scene...
You see, We had to suffer through the abysmal 80's music scene...
Growing up musically with Led,Sabbath,Priest, Rush,Aerosmith,Kiss,etc...
Only to be lead into the 80's abyss of pop crap..Wang chung, tears for fears, depeche mode, many more crap synth bands to name..
Once GNR hit it was like a fog had lifted, Then the Seattle bands, Ugly kid joe, Faith no more, Korn, Tool, Etc....
Don't hate us because we got the best of both worlds...
    Peace Out...

    Pig Ford

If I’m not mistaken the best underground music was made in the 80’s so........

  43. Tim Miller

Kim Thayil one of the most under rated Guitarist of the whole 90s Seattle thing But IMO he is one of the most talented musicians of all and was my whole inspiration to play Guitar♍️♈️♍️

  44. 696evolve

But, I’m on my way... to the Sky

  45. Carrie Milburn

They opened with this song a lot. That intro. <3

  46. Jeremy Painter

  50. Louis Batsford

That's what rock sounds like, should show picture of Soundgarden in dictionary, definition : in one ear and out your mother!

  51. Max Wolf

  53. Byron Shaw

Never heard much of these guys til Lollapalooza 92 in Raleigh NC when they covered the then banned Body Count song Cop Killer.... It was cool. Chris told the crowd Ice T and b.c. were banned by the PMRC to play it but no one said Soundgarden couldn't so they ript it. It was awesome

    Too cool for the room

Wow that's a cool fuckin moment.  Would probably have to dig deep to find that on vid but maybe not.  I used to listen to Body Count too...they got some jams.  Damn that's old school... I'm heading to BC next.  Rock on!

  54. Nigel Farage

Another Masterpiece by SG. Got this Cassette 2....Knew they were something special right away...Best song on Cd here.

  55. Mondo Shredder

Probably my favorite song from this band, and I really love this band.

    Pig Ford

Mondo Shredder :I still think to this day that BMF was not only the best album to come out of Seattle it was easily in the Top 5 hard rock/heavy albums to come out in the 90’s & remember there was A LOT of stiff competition but NOBODY could touch Cornell on this album & Temple of The Dog ....to me his prime years were 89-94....I mean at the end of this song as it starts to fade out he is literally howling

  56. Gabriel Martin

    What is the intro

  57. John Smith

When this came out...Grunge was dead...And that was a great thing...they topped it off with one of the greatest songs ever.!

  58. ComaDave

  61. Francis Cyprus

Mannn, this is taking me back right now......The last time I heard this was 2012...when this all began....when I realized that the 2000's were over. Have you ever had that moment. It could happen anywhere. You just suddenly realize it's all over. An entire era. A whole way of life you'd been leading up till that point. We all have these moments that signal a transition period, a huge change. They usually happen every 10 years or so....This song reminds me of one such moment. I was in my car, driving back home, following a road that goes along the periphery of the city. I remember hearing this and thinking the 2000's were over. Everything did change after that......Guitar and Heavy Metal were dead....I used to play guitar religiously up till that point, for an entire decade 2002 - 2012 but then it all changed.....it was all over.....the groups of friends I'd been hanging out with began to break apart.....my ideas of what I thought I was gonna do with life hadn't materialized and thus began the 2010's......this strange era where nothing lasts, where everything has been stuck in time, where the future is so uncertain, this era of waiting...waiting....waiting...for this big shift...for this new era to begin.....searching but not finding the answer to the future....the frustration of being stuck....right now, at this very moment, I feel that some cycle has completed....the 2010's are over.....whatever just happened these past 10 years stays with the 2010's, just like the 2000's and 1990's before it (I haven't lived any more decades :)) Once you're out of an era you can never go back. Goodbye 2010's, it's been real. An uneventful, educational, slow and rather empty decade. The brother of the 2000's decade, the logical extension, just like the 1990's were the extension of the 1980's. We're gettin' outta here........

    Too cool for the room

Interesting point of view.  I think the 2010's suck/sucked because our society as a whole was/is still trying to figure out what to do with knowledge and access to everything/everyone at any given time (smartphones).  This trickles down to shallow shitty music and nobody grabbing music by the balls and owning it.   I've actually branched out to different genres of music in the last 10 years looking to fill the void and luckily I have.  I'm optimistic about the 2020's...younger people will be over the smartphone/social media shock and musically get some shit done....we're due.   Just glad nowadays that if we have an internet connection we can listen to songs like this for free....and nobody should ever take that for granted.  Rock on

  62. Miles Coleman

    THIS IS LIKE US!

  63. DarkLink1980

Man, I've only heard the Live version. Totally different vibe from studio.

    Alwyn Sam

The live version is better, IMO. Vocals not as prominent as they should be in the studio version.

  72. TheGreaterGood80

When I first heard Soundgarden, I literally thought they were the ultimate fusion of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. This song is an example as to why.

  73. Martin Barnes

  78. Andre Dearbone

Had the honor to see them all sometimes for free and never more than $5 a pop. Andrew Wood from Mother Love Bone, Layne Stayley , Mike Starr (Alice In Chains} and Chris Cornell (Soungarden) all tragic losses. They all were in their twenties as were I. Living in the Pacific Northwest we had all sorts of influences happening. I guess that's why all the bands had became such good musicians. Don't know if it were the weather, good pot, or the DJ's on the rock station up there 99.9 KISW Seattle's Best Rock or what? But Generation X "did make a place in history". R.I.P

  79. Diatonic5th

The song proves that Matt Cameron is a drummer's drummer. His pocket is incredibly deep on this song and the fills are amazing.

  80. Albert Vitela

This song is dope it reminds me of a surfer in the ocean going "to the sky"

  81. Bryton Cherrier

    Too cool for the room

    Lol!  Sure is man!

  84. Marc Cascio

I am a HS English teacher and I am using this in conjunction with Plato. The whole "Good Eye" thing equates to his concepts of chains binding us to our beliefs and being uncomfortable with things that don't sync with our personal values. Check this out if you have time : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ8yMYvHc5E

  85. Dalton Parks

Oh the memories this song brings back wow what great times were they awesome

  86. Holy Smoke

Unreal!!!!!!!!! All Hail The Cornell!!!! 🌽

  87. Skip Donaghue

Will always remind me of that really fuckin long walk to my girlfriend's house, hopin the batteries on me walkman wouldn't pack out, hopin she'd more fags than me and hopin she'd food in her(her mother's) fridge. The walk home was never that bad.

I have loved this since the day it came out. Goosebumps

  90. Bryan L. Morrison

EASY TO DISGUISE... EASY TO DISGUISE!

    wait

    TO THE SKYYYYY

  91. Nathan Baca

This song contains one of my favorite Cornell lyrics.. stop your trying to bruise my mind, I can do it on my own. Stop your trying to kill my time, it’s been my death since I was born. I don’t remember half the time if I’m hiding or if I’m lost, but I’m on my way.

  92. Nathan Baca

    Do you hear a cow?

  93. SomeoneUnimportant

Wtf? I always remembered this song being faster paced and Chris Cornell having a higher pitched voice....

  94. Jacob David Cunningham

first time I heard it casually says "The devil says..." thought that was so funny

  95. Illy Mcgilly

    So heavy
