Soundgarden - Rhinosaur Lyrics
Standing with my enemies
Hung on my horns
With haste and reverie
Killing with charm
Only deadly in a swarm
Only healthy in the dirt
Only empty in your arms
I play, I'm sick and tame
Drawing the hordes
I wait, and show the lame
The meaning of harm
The skulls beneath my feet
Like feathers in sand
A feeling of peace
Only bending when you break
Only feeding when you're cold
Only healing when you ache
Only feeling when you don't

Soundgarden Rhinosaur Comments
I think that this is absolutely one of their best songs.........
23 years old already. Such an underrated song.
It's absolutely beautiful to think songs like Rhinosaur, Bleed Together and Cold Bitch are B-Sides that completely eclipse anything many well established bands have made it big with
Superunknown has to be considered their best album but damn if this one isn't far behind. There isn't a bad song on the entire album.
Bought this album on release took a few listens then didn't come out of the car CD player for months. Pretty sure that does not happen anymore.
Poetic rock... Cornell is a genius when it comes to song writing.
Matt Cameron !
Only happy when you hurt,
Only empty in your arms...
man did i pick some apples listening to this album !
Bill Burr says this was in 5/4 but it's 6/4. Messed me up
Kim Thayil is woefully underrated and underappreciated...
First Song of theirs I could play start to finish on a guitar. Still fun to play.
en serio hay 57 hijos de puta que no les gusta este hijueputa temazo?!!!
this is how you start your day
possibly one of the best Soundgarden songs ever put down
SG was the soundtrack to my youth along with aic, stp, etc. good shit. Rip Chris
grinning from ear to ear, i want to put my fist through something
Kim's solo in this song should be in the top 10 solos of all time.

Yeah
This song is one of their best. An underrated classic that sums up their groove and genius.
Rhino plus dinosaur
Soundgarden sounds better and better with age
This song makes me want to do manly shit, bend steel, head butt a cactus, catch a fucking Great White, hang with Clint Eastwood and drink Budweiser, smoke a Marlboro with Mickey Rourke, eat haggis with William Wallace and wrestle alligators
love that off beat..
Hell yeah haven't heard this beastly song in a while as it used to start skipping on my cd. Gives such a unexplainable calming vibe during the multiple-Cornell chorus. Ahhhhhhh. Fuck yeah
...damn and might I add the tempo change from fast back to slow at 2:30...genius...fuckin twist you up mayyn
RHCP totally ripped off the rhythm lick that Chris is playing behind Kim's solo, for the song Around the World, which they also used as a kind of bridge.
This is a real awesome things...wowiwo
I am Rhinosaur
You are Rhinosaur.
A song made of the single riff from Dazed and Confused :)
STANDING WITH MY ENEMY
Man, I always wondered what that main riff reminded me of...finally figured it out.. Yes - Long Distance Runaround!
The uptempo part seems to quote Heart of the Sunrise
Wow. Forgot about this underrated tune, on an underrated album. Really should have done better. Not break the band up. God/Jesus bless and save all that read this.
My favorite song on this album...RIP CHRIS YOU ROCK FOREVER
This song blows my mind!
All these years we've been hearing the awesome music of Matt Cameron and didn't know it. His new album shows this. When you hear Rhinosaur it comes out in a big way, just a great song. He and Chris Cornell wrote this one. Matt's new album Cavedweller has all the earmarkings of Soundgarden in one musician. Perhaps he was an integral part of SG.
ok i'm hearing the melody "tiny dancer". i'm afraid. hold me.
This album is depressingly underrated... Future generations no doubt will laud it as a gem of the musical genre and zeitgeist.
Totally agreed... When it came out it felt like the only logical progression from SuperUnknown🥇🥇
The 3/4 time signature gives this song its lilt, so f'ing cool. Yeah, f'ing.
GODDAMN, THIS SHIT IS LIKE COCAINE FOR YOUR FUCKING SOUL. RIP CHRIS
Country is all I really listen to anymore, but this song is awesome, not gonna lie.
No more Corndog in the Beer garden, God thought
Kim Thayil and Jerry Cantrell could make a band!
EDIT- here they play together!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUdJGKjs0Ko
Ever song is the greatest by soundgarden
Seattle's finest ( Chris Cornell ) Seattle will never be the same with out him. Hands down he was Seattle's best ......
One of the best Soundgarden songs in my opinion and so underrated. R.I.P. Chris Cornell <3
GO TO 2:00
Incredible song!! Rest in peace Chris, Your songs will definitely live on!!!!!
Absolutely LOVE this tune. I learned to play it on and acoustic! Less the crazy solo. Rock on and RIP Chris Cornell.
I need an electric shock after that solo...
RIP Chris
I feel so at home with this album.
TEMAZO HIJUEPUTA!!!!!!!!!!
that chorus, catchy as f*ck!!!!
Im sick to death of hearing people say that Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC, Nirvana etc. were "grunge." To me thats trying to fit them in a box to make it easier and more palatable for consumption. Having said that, Soundgarden and AIC are head and shoulders above anything that any other band accomplished in the 90's. Honorable mention to Mother Love Bone also. There will never, ever be any other bands that accomplished what Soundgarden and AIC did
I can see people grouping SG, AIC, and Nirvana as whatever genre you want to call it, but Pearl Jam is a distinctively different band. Pearl jam is an extremely talented group to be saying SG and AIC accomplished more than them head and shoulders. Ten is one of the greatest selling albums of all time. All of the bands we've mentioned are great in their own right. Listen to early SG and AIC and you will realize why they were labeled grunge. It's an excellent description. It's slow, heavy, sludgy, metal. You've got "Nothing to Say".
Aaron cadwallader soundgarden Rules.
"Grunge" was always a dopey marketing term cooked up by media hacks. Basically, you had a bunch of really good bands coming out of Washington state. Some bands were more punk and indie while others were more metal or psychedelic. While most of them worked with similar people(like Subpop, Jack Endino, etc.) most were just doing their own thing as most bands should. Then someone had to slap a moniker on it. "Grunge" is one of the worst examples of media hype fucking up a legitimately good music scene.
I say the same exact thing all the time. That pisses me off too.
Blind melon...
Of any Soundgarden song I've ever heard, Kim's solo is probably the most bad-ass thing ever put on vinyl. It's as if a man that couldn't speak his entire life finally got the chance... RIP Chris.
great way to put it
R.I.P Chris Cornell love your songs forever
Almost LedZep, this one
Rest in peace ,Chris Cornell, Happy trip to the superunknown!
When Wood, Hoon, Cobain and Staley died it didn't affect me at all, but this one hurts bad. All of these guys were the soundtrack to my 20's and my soundtrack is dying. The groove of this song is unrivaled. My favorite of all of Soundgarden's masterpieces for sure. Thanks Chris. Rest easy man.
It hurts because we thought he would live until his old age... It's not expected you part this world at age 50 when life's worse moments probably are behind our backs. It was brutally unexpected... we all thought him, vedder, band members and Dave G. Would last forever.
Hoon is not in the same league as the rest.
Yeah man, Chris' passing cuts deep!! I have to say though, Layne going hit me pretty hard as well...not as much as Chris but hurt nonetheless
@Mikey Millions Shannon was Fantastic but agree, he's not in that conversation
R.I.P CHRIS CORNELL
RIP CHRIS
I love this! It sounds like a Rhino was let loose in the recording studio, and Chris is just tripping out on it.
RIP CHRIS CORNELL ,SAY HELLO TO HEAVEN!
rest in peace, Chris Cornell....#RIP
R.I.P. Chris Cornell
RIP Chris. Best voice of his generation.
dohmarau yep, not a single person was even close to his level
MustObeyTheRules Layne staley
Does Cornell play this riff and sing at the same time?
Mitch Dempsey yes. It's in drop d tuning which makes it easier.
Kim plays it
Pretty sure I've seen him doing both on live footage, yes.
Is this is Matt Cameron's rhythm guitar? It's bad ass.
He wrote some percentage of it, but I just saw this quote from Kim: "Ben and I played on dropped-D, but Chris played in standard tuning" so I guess he wrote it and handed it off.
Already know and love this song, but it was cool hearing that Bill Burr finally discovered it.
Bill Burr brought me here. Hey Laaaaaaadddiessss!
awesome interview i heard with him ,matt pinfield on opie show....matt pinfield talking bout hanging with layne staley at unplugged and all kinds of amazing stuff
Scraper Magazine Ladies come to me.

Get funky.
Joey Diaz brought me here.
definitely the best
after years of listening to this album all i can say about the drummer is discipline!! This man is like a rock...he plays tight and technical but is so subtle in his delivery. just like all the great drummers of the world i do believe you'll learn a lot listening to how this guy plays. try drumming along to this song and Pretty Noose and see how close you can get...no idea why but he always catches me out...
Interestingly enough, this is one of Cameron's contributions to the album. Much like George Harrison, he contributed a track or two here and there among the songs primarily written by Cornell.
chris herbig also both quite under appreciated
Hell yeah
such a great nickname
It's called polymetering. Different beats on different tempos played together in one piece. Basically all your limbs must have a metronome.

uff Yeah lml
best shit in the world
+Erick Higuera so disappointed in new music that people love, i don't get it. This is probably my favorite song next to "Dead End Friends" by Them Crooked Vultures
+Radrobin25 ya buddy! couple a deadly tracks there, not sure if I can commit to having them as all time favorites haha but hangin close
My shits can't compete.
Erick Higuera soundgarden. Rules.
nice deep cut
GRACIAS POR SUBIR BUENA MÚSICA. SALUDOS DESDE MÉXICO.
Dazed and confused by led zeppelin
+RosettaStoned525 Also kind of "what is and what should never be" in the chorus
Come Bite the Apple Intro , Mother Love Bone song
Damn, can't decide whether this or AIC is the best grunge band of all time. Thoughts anyone?
+Boner Boner, for me:
5: Stone Temple Pilots
4: Alice in Chains
3: Nirvana
2: Pearl Jam
1: Soundgarden
+Juan Daniel Arias Mejia I'm about the same, just I'd put Nirvana and Alice in chains above Pearl Jam because their newest album wasn't quite grungy enough for me.
TOTD/PJ/SG
@tcjnz guess you reminded me of what I'd pick instead of stone temple pilots. I barely listen to STP... Temple of the dog is great.
It's close but I'd say soundgarden is better because Cornell is the best vocalist I've ever heard. Staley is awesome though
This song just made me feel so awesome
The same exact feeling just happened to me. I havent heard this in probably 20 years
Son una mierda
Great song!!!!
Just thought I'd post the lyrics. Sounds exactly like the behavior of a rhinoceros. Interesting.

love this tune. reminds me a lot of 21st century schizoid man when the solo kicks in.
Its a damn shame these guys got so burnt out when they were touring for this album...
its a shame they split after this album
One of the best albums of the decade, without a doubt!
My favorite song of this amazing album! I love all Soundgarden's albums, from Superultramega O.K. to King Animal. <3
this entire album will cure any ill
Usingerina moapensis Say no to nirvana.
how about just love all of them
Captain Gene Exactly, we don’t get music like this anymore.
this one was really over-looked due to collective tiredness of the scene. "we need new to digest and spit out!"
this album was never tiresome to me. a large staple in their sound. i'm still sad i didn't go see them on this tour because that idiot pervasive perception managed to infect me at the time, there were also life things taking place but i could have made this if i had wanted to badly enough. this one has some of my favorite collaborative statements on it..
switch opens!
that's near beatle stuffs
well this is maybe the best shit i heard in my entire miserable life.
No doubt about that. RIP Chris Cornell.
that's right! the best!
its mine too xP
Damn the solo kicks ass!
The new stuff sounds a lot more "Chris Cornell" than Soundgarden, so to speak.
...I think you mean Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Nirvana and Soundgarden are pretty much on opposite sides of the grunge spectrum, with Soundgarden representing the more metal side and Nirvana the punk side.
This wasn't a single
