This might have been the first ever rock cover of a funk song to make it onto an album.

This came out in 1988. Red Hot Chili Peppers were covering funk bands before this. George Clinton produced their second album Freaky Styely in 1985. On that album they covered Hollywood (Africa) by The Meters and If You Want Me To Stay by Sly and the Family Stone.

Also in their first written song, 1983's Out in L.A., they mention Fopp in the lyrics

Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, nor Soundgarden sounded nothing alike! The only similarities were the Seattle music scene and that All of their music was such an awesome break from the bullshit corporate ass so called rock corporate America was spoonfeeding the public finally was coming to an end!! Always AHope right on. soundgarden is grunge. a lot of people don't even realize that. they were subpop's first release and all the other 'grunge' bands were well aware of them and looked up to them. i heard about them before anyone else in school back in '89. they weren't punk but they made fun of the hair metal bands. i thought they were cool as shit. listening to limo wreck right now, but if anyone wants to hear this dude sing check out slaves and bulldozers. the song that rick rubin played to rage against the machine when they were looking for a singer. RIP Cornell.
