Ahhh, the 1990s, and its never-ending (BUT SEEMINGLY PLAUSIBLE) paranoid conspiracies fueled by ridiculous Pentagon denials (what balloon could abruptly change its trajectory 315 degrees at 16 Gs?!!) and growing distrust (The Truth Is Out There - implying that what we're being told are lies) in a federal government that had far overreached its limits, as well as the emergence of a new kind of folk hero - the internet hacker - all conveniently rolled into a single television series for the eager consumption of geeky teenage sci-fi fans. XD Good times the '90s were.

Awesome! I always liked Soul Coughing but I never knew they did an X-Files song until I saw the episode this was featured in. Both the band and the show just became so much cooler IMO.

This is actually how I discovered Soul Coughing. I re-watched X-Files, noticed the song, thought it was a Butthole Surfers song I'd never heard and instead discovered one of the coolest bands I've heard in recent years.

Yeah. I'd get really scared when I watched the X-Files back in the '90s, but I couldn't stop watching it. It was the best damn show ever. Only the Sarah Connor Chronicles came somewhat close to how much I liked the X-Files. No other sci-fi show so far this millennium even comes close in my eyes to the X-Files (original series - the only one that matters in my opinion).

I don't even like this song very much (not to bash on Alanis Morissette) but she had some way better songs, and it's ironic that this song describes my life better than any other songs, but anyone would say the same thing if it were true about them, and that is also ironic in itself. It is extremely ironic to the point that all the humor is sucked out of it and it is that miserable horrible ironic, the kind of ironic that a bunch of narcissistic megalomaniacs and control freaks bring down my life and elevate their own. it's the kind of ironic that sucks the hope I have for humanity right out of me. it's the kind of ironic where evil triumphs over the few good based on shear numbers It is the kind of ironic that makes me sick to the soul. It's the kind of ironic that these twisted people laugh at their own evil deeds and justify them in being humorous because it is ironic, but they really are nothing but a bunch of soul sucking leeches. It is really IRONIC, not just a little too ironic but way too ironic. The most Ironic part about it all is no one will ever believe me. It is far too ironic!

@MIKE DAVIS​ didn't pull that from my arse, I've slowed it down. You have to really stretch the sound a lot to hear it, it's sped up a hell lot. But, before saying no, why don't you try verifying it yourself? Knowing that it's true for having heard it first hand, I find it rather baffling you allow yourself to be that dismissive without even having checked for yourself. Accessorilly, the sample is heard at normal speed by the end.

+Lultschful Just tried it myself. The theme has been sped up to 4x its original speed to achieve the chirps we hear in this song. Additionally it's had some echo and reverb added to it. It actually manages to sound creepier than the original theme with their modifications.
